Out of a 10/10 casting, Jason Bateman was, I think the best actor by far. It's not easy for me to say it, and I'm sure many will disagree, as ALL other actors in the series were just fucking phenomenal as well, but Bateman's acting was so impeccably good, I don't think ANYONE could ever replicate it. Those deadpan reactions, man, they're just the best. I wonder if he's got that subtle, killer humor going on in real life as well. He'd be a great guy to be around.

@AlvinHDavernport he definitely does! just go see his talk show appearances and the unscripted one with will smith & charlize theron-hilarious! totally agree with what you said. his funny is the understated, low-key, dry, priceless reaction shots kind, wc i think is so much harder to do than the physical comedy we usually see. although i think for bateman it just comes naturally to him. as mitch hurwitz said, it's difficult to be "funny in stillness", and bateman does just that phenomenally well

What I love about Arrested Development is that the actors really seem to naturally fit the parts.

Jason Bateman, when speaking normally sounds no different from Michael Bluth. The same can be said about Will Arnett and Michael Cera.

The bottom line is that most American's love the same predictable canned humor sitcoms. That's why this show didn't go past three seasons. Most American's don't appreciate something truly good when they see it. This is one of my favorite shows of all times for good reason. Great writing. Also, a lot of the humor is subtle. Once again, American's want that stupid predictable in your face punch line, cause that's all they're capable of picking up on.

It was "seemingly" intelligent comedy. I don't think A D is intelligent humour at all, they are all archetypal characters from an ancient comedic structure. It is incredibly standard formula. And, yes, I did love it

the show didn't fail, it had one great season, one average season and one terrible season, and it was comedy about extremely controversial issues - you don't see friends taking the piss out of it's own government's involvement in a war. Controversial issues cause major division, and shows dealing with major divisive issues divide. People aren't stupid. that's not why they watch tv.

It was a show that required concentration and appreciation for the rapid-fire visual gags and often witty, entendre filled lines.

At the same time it was satrirical, done in the technical and visual mode of reality tv in terms of camerawork.

It was a breakthough of sorts as a one camera, no laughtrack, no soundstage/multiple location show.

I never really watched Fox because they had no funny shows....I never knew about AD until IFC started showing it.....it is the funniest show ever...the characters are brilliant!! I have all the seasons on dvd now,If they had shown it on NBC thursday nights along with The Office & 30 Rock it would still be on TV! NBC needs to buy the rights and bring it back!

It didn't fail. It got cancelled, but in NO WAY did it ever fail. It was an amazing show while it lasted, and of course I want the movie to come out, but I'm glad with its status. And, it doesn't make you smarter than everyone else just to like this show. The fact that you obviously feel this means you demonstrate I-It characteristics. Brush up on your Martin Buber, you "intellectuals."
