  • The greatest pop song in history.

  • I hate lip-synch'ing...

  • Simply one of the top ten rock songs of all time

  • This was the MTV of the 70's with Rock concert.

  • This song is a favorite of me and my niece's...we used to sing this all the time.. May She Rest In Peace... I miss her so much..but I have our memories...I can never listen to this anymore without tearing up...ahhh..but I still love it so.

  • This was lipsycned but who cares.

  • Where's Wing?

  • That is one hell of a sound. you cant stuff like this anymore. all digitized and synthizied.

  • I graduated high school in 1976. Even though I am more of a classic rock guy, this song holds a special place in my heart. All most every time I would drop off my girlfriend after a date, this song came on the car radio. My girlfriend and I have been married for 32 years now! This is "our song". :)

  • I can dig the Dancing Queen! A real piano player, real singers and state of the art synthesizers. Chris Carter and Cosie Fannie Tutti (Chris and Cosey) were fond of them. I am too.

  • Damn... Lip synching... Still great to watch though..

  • Again with the Karate outfits. Where's Daniel Son.

  • A rainy day, 1977, maybe 1976. Going to school, a cold and damp day. No umbrella? who cares. This song in the background. Wait, I have an exam, I can't think about music right now. Biology is the word. Will I make the grade? will I flunk? That was 35 years ago and I'm here, reminiscing. Life is good, isn't it?

  • There's a fake ABBA band touring now called "Bjorn Again!" One night in Atlanta, the REAL Bjorn played on stage with them. Nothing like a sense of humor...

  • Lip sync---it's exactly like the studio version.

  • Yeah, unfortunately it's a lip sync - nobody is THAT perfect in person. Great song tho.

  • they all look like they have black belts in karate!

  • What's with the karate outfits?

  • Lip sync.

  • How come it sounds EXACTLY like the studio recording?

  • @catchersmitt0 its recording

  • @catchersmitt0 I think they're using a back up tape. The piano, guitar and vocals are probably live, but the orchestra back ground vocals are a tape. At least they're not outright lip synching.

  • @GuitarChickSG1 The piano isn't live. His hands don't move at all when those little chord "gliss" things (or whatever they're called) happen.

  • @JimHadar1 Right you are. I stand corrected. I said "probably'. ;) BTW, how are things in The Dominion?

  • Every Friday night: roller skating and then the Midnight Special! Didnt realize how good I had it.

  • @goodvibrations100 wish that wuz my life

  • @goodvibrations100 I wish I had it like that.

  • @goodvibrations100 amen me 2

  • Frida is so beautiful

  • I GOT DEM MIDNIGHTSPECIALS ON DVD BITCHES!

  • I really miss the 70's and the music that I enjoyed as a boy. While my preference is more rock and roll, I have an appreciation for all genres of that era, and ABBA is no exception. Re-visiting these old classics brings a little joy to my life in a very ugly time for this once great country. I'm afraid our best days are, indeed, in the past.

  • lip syncing bollocks

  • The girls should have done ..like a kung Fu kick at the end of each verse...or even on the chorus..."dancing Queeeen..Hiiiya!" andd kick!

  • @jarrodg70 i just about choke don my salad laughing at that .

  • @jarrodg70 i just about choke d on my salad laughing at that .

  • Hmmm, the girls don't seem to make eye contact. The one on the left with the green belt is acting as the girl on the right just farted.

  • why the nuclear reaction design to START!...but What. Did. It. Take!...(aka Fox.Rock's Czar!)

  • those great harmonies...

like all successful groups they created their own sound....

  • Burt Sugarman i thought he was a Boxing promotor or fight doctor lol.

  • I want sangria and melted cheese (fondu) party with bits of bread while wearing my polyester leisure suit.

  • Nothing better than lip syncing in matching white kimonos - c'mon! They could have hired a band and pulled this off. I'm disgusted. Frida and the other dame are hot, however.

  • @CowbellProfessional The Wembley ones a proper live I think. Well worth watching.

  • this I dont miss.

  • @msqtube of course you don't, you American middle aged weirdo, but the rest of the world does.

  • I love this!!

  • even back in the day this is the "eve" of lip-syching-fake!!!! don't get me wrong I like this song -but this is fake and I HATE that!!!!

  • I listen to this and I'm 10 years again. Great song. I also remember the midnight special show.

  • ABBA...foi maravilhosamente o melhor dos anos 70!!!!!!!

  • Sad they seldom ever performed anything live... this included. All mimed.

  • Que gran tema con sus cantantes originales, clasicos que perduran

  • Thank You!!! :)

  • Their costumes are cross between pajamas and karate outfits...cool

  • If ABBA made a comeback even though its kinda late for that, they could inspire people to make decent music and then todays music would be barable

  • This song was almost impossible to perform live due to the range of almost five octaves required by Agnetha and Frida in it. It is a fine example of what was called the "third voice" of Abba that the girls achieved when they hit the notes just perfect

  • As frequently happened in the 70's this tune is lipped synced to the record. Still a great tune!

  • Comment removed

  • This is obviously one Midnight Special sequence that was NOT live. ABBA goes down in my ratings due to that.

  • I'd love an Abba sandwich

  • everytime I hear this song I wanna throw my skates. Those were the days!!

  • @THRILLAKILLA187 thank you for this great song.. Love it! I am having the time of my life!

Thank you 7ABBA7 for an awesome post!!

  • Unbelieveable. Why would they sing Fernando live, and then lip sync this song? WTF?

  • ABBA personifies what the seventies were all about with their most unique sexy-rock tempo and music arrangements that were genius in concept and presentation, and that my friends...never grows old!!

  • lip sync fake performance

  • Weren't the performers on this show supposed to be LIVE?

  • My wife make's fun of me for liking this but it's ok for her to like Milli Vanilli go figure

  • I would have loved to shag the fuck outta those two bitches, 70s porn style, with a tinge of modern day S&M decadence.

  • @iiwatcher - Haha, you're so sick!

  • You have no idea baby. ; )

  • Rock & Roll hall of famers..................LOL!

  • @notwaiting LMFAO!

  • Go to Gary Wright-My love is alive from midnight special, those girls are wearing the exact same thing as the abba chicks

  • @dwcascade oh yes!!! i JUST saw the gary wright vidoe!!!

  • she makes my crank harder than Chinese arithmetic

  • How can you not like ABBA? :) Such feel good uplifting music. I play their music at work. I see alot of people smile and get into the music and even start dancing.lol

  • One of the top ten rock songs of all time

  • You'll love my version as well. Hey thanks for posting this video.

  • did they give a karate demonstration after this lip sync?

  • I hate lip sync..........

  • why do they lipsync, just sing girls!

  • I used to babysit a lot on weekends. Late at night I'd make sure to check out who was on Midnight Special. Why don't they have it now?

  • Such a 70s era song; but good to go.

  • A true SUPER GROUP whose music also has stood up well over the years.

  • They are lip-syncing. Vocals are identical to those of the studio track.

  • @boongg Gee what a shocker.

  • Such cute outfits!!!!!!!

  • Check out Gary Wright's video on Midnight Special - the background singers are wearing the same outfits. The judo outfit must have been popular then.

  • Sounds just like the CD that you can buy at the truck stop.

  • gr8 2 hear a rare edit version

  • i yearn for the days when lip synching was given tacit approval by all.

  • would love to do em both ! No ! The chicks man!

  • The midnight Special usually featured live acts. I would say for sure there is music being piped into this version and it does sound polished. But ABBA was amazing live! Their performances were spot on with the record releases. The ladies voices were just magic together! Look up "ABBA - Dancing Queen Live" and listen to the live concert version too!

  • thay are in fact wearing kimonos not karate outfits as "Earthlinked" stated earlier.

  • karate was very popular at this time....in fact-I took karate lessons in the late 70's when i was a young boy. YES THIS IS LIP SYNCH.

  • Are they lip synching? I think they are there is no way that is live, it is too polished.

  • I agree that acts of all kinds, pop, rock, everything.

  • Wonderful

    Congratulations

  • If you were not shaking ur groove thang at the local disco, you would be at home jamming to the Midnight Special!!!!

  • @mistaeric

    so true!!!!...LOL

  • The Redhead is the Hot One.. Thanks for the video post..

  • ABBA wearing karate robes: Talk about cheap.

  • Those "karate robes" cost more than you car

  • Howdy Shawn, The kimonos were one of my favorite outfits they wore but Agnetha could make a feed sack look good. Thanks for this one. Lenny

  • and if you don't like this song they will kick your ass!

  • I see them advertising "Midnight Special" video compilations but I never saw the show. Note the ABBA logo without the reversed "B". Frida is such a hottie. But those karate outfits make them look dangerous.

  • @UglySean They are in a komono - not a karate outfit. The word "kimono", which literally means a "thing to wear" in Japanese!!!!

  • Too bad...lip sync

  • i agree, sounds amazing

Was this a regular show on a major network back then ?

  • Yes, on every Friday night at 11:30, get wasted and watch your favorite groups when you couldn't afford the concerts... It ran for around ten years straight...

  • @ACEBAKER911 The Midnight Special was an hour long show on Friday nights at 11:30PM on NBC. It was first hosted by John Denver - and had a different rock and roll band - every Friday night. It was put together by Burt Sugarman!!

  • @Earthlinked I watched it each and every week as a youth. I then would watch Don Kirshner's Rock Concert. I have always loved music and can say I grew up with the greatest songs and musicians the world will ever see. Today's crap can't hold a candle to the wonderful sounds of the 70's and 80's.

  • @MRAMX390 I AGREE

  • @MRAMX390 As one of many individuals born in 1964, I have only one comment to say toward yours......AMEN MY FRIEND, YOU SAID IT ALL!

  • @MRAMX390 The stuff out there today couldn't even make a pimple on the butt of the 70's and 80's.

  • @yucchhiiowwee THIS IS REAL MUSIC.......WHAT THE HECK ARE THEY PLAYING TODAY? A BUNCH OF THUG HIP HOP MESS....AND THE JONAS BROTHERS, RHIANNA, BRITANNY SPEARS.......THEY CALL THAT MESS MUSIC......I BEG TO DIFFER........I WAS 12 WHEN THIS WAS RECORDED.....AND I AM GLAD AT LEAST I HAD A CHANCE TO LIVE IN A COMPLETELY BETTER ERA....NOT JUST FOR MUSIC...BUT FOR "LIFE".......TODAY SUCKS

  • @justcruzzinn So, you beg to differ with what? What my comment said about the stuff they CALL music today is something you agreeing to. I don't know about you, but I'm about to turn 55 yrs old in august. Most people wanna think I'm closed minded about music today. They don't understand my passion for "MUSIC"...NOT (C)RAP or anything else that they TRY to emulate as MUSIC! Give me something to be open minded about. But your right, todays stuff is PURE GARBAGE!!!!

  • @yucchhiiowwee .........well said........I'm 47 and we grew up with Boston, Dan Folgeberg, Journey, Foreigner, Kenny Rogers, etc.,...all types of different music....and that WAS MUSIC...AND TALENT...Today, it is pure garbage...The only singer I can think of who actually "sings" with talent is Celine Dione. And yes, American Idol has some good talented singers..BUT, the "songs" suck...they cannot WRITE music anymore...IMO

  • @MRAMX390 thats the fricken truth just watching reminds me of being younger before cable when musicians were musicians and not worried about all the money they can make.....what happened to the days when stevie nicks and the allman brothers, david bowie and many more would hang out and party together and with the fans as well they were actually real and not a robot programmed

  • @Earthlinked

No offense, but The Midnight Special ran for 90 minutes, not an hour. And it didn't just have "a different rock & roll band every Friday night" -- it had numerous bands, and comedians, on each show. It was a musical variety show that aired right after Johnny Carson each week and ran for about 8 years IIRC.

  • @Ken5244 In Atlanta - it ran for 60 minutes - I found an old TV Guide!!!!!! I'm sure the format changed a few times - but was - as you said - always several bands/singers/comedians!!!

  • @Earthlinked

Well, then you guys in Atlanta got cheated! *laugh* I guess we were fortunate in So. California at the time 'cuz it always ran for 90 minutes.

Now that we're talking about it, I vaguely remember something about some stations not wanting to air the show 'cuz they usually signed off the air right after Carson's show ended (this was long before all-night television). So maybe the NBC affiliate in Atlanta cut it short or somethin'.

Did you know there are DVDs of this show now?

  • @Ken5244 Atlanta is/was the home of WTBS - Ted Turner's station was THE ONLY all night station that had 100% of the all night audiance - and Truner wanted to keep it that way!!! CBS and ABC had the news at 1:30AM then of the air at 2:00!!!! NBC (on Friday) was Carson 11:30 - Midnight Special 12:30 - News 1:30 - Off the air 2:00!!!!!! Ted liked it that way - made him a billionaire!!!!;-)))

  • @Earthlinked Wolfman Jack was the best host!

  • I don't recall Midnight Special having lip-sync performances. Guess I never noticed.

  • 17

an age of unmatched power of emotional Youth and passion

  • This music always lifts me up. Great song!

  • I agree with the comment below 100%. This is a perfect pop song, an epic.

  • night is young and the music hot...wow! those lyrics are out of this world.

  • forever timeless......

  • Lovely pajamas.

  • love it.....

  • SO good :) love them, always have and always will :)

  • Dancinig Queen is a Masterpiece of a Pop anthem representing the 70s. Even though i am a Hard Rocker I absolutly NEVER get tired of this song!! No matter how many times I have Heard it.

  • Amen bro, a good song is a good song Bottom line

  • @thornbuh Same here! Even though I prefer AC/DC, Slayer, King Diamond, and Quiet Riot, among others, I "tend to shift musical gears," every now and then, and listen to a non-heavy rock song.

  • @thornbuh you probably are into "gay porn" too.

  • @MrScottydabody Only a Pricksucker like yourself would make a comment like that.

*$#! yourself and the horse you rode up on pal

  • @thornbuh if you are a guy and u sing and dance to this song, you and the very minimal have gay tendences.

  • @thornbuh

    Me too. \m/ \m/

  • @thornbuh - You said for us both. I'm also a rocker but I always loved this song. It was special

  • @thornbuh me too

  • They're on of the inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.......

  • This song its a classic. Though when I was 17 nothing memorable happened... when I sing this song, I say young and sweet only 19 bah!

  • great song---to bad they weren't actually playing and singing---nice Milly and Vanilly-(or whatever)--still,love the song

  • you are confusing Milly Vanilly with a fake group that happened in early 90's and the poor soul took his own life. This was a live show , if you never heard of Midnight Special Friday evening show you missed a great show... It was live!

  • Only the members' physical presences are live. The music and singing are clearly NOT live.

  • Unfortunately its true

  • Then why did I get a down-thumb for my comment???

  • It wasn't me .... let me help you with it

  • Thanks. I did not say it was you, though. :)

  • I didn't know Kenny Stabler played piano for AbbA.

  • Only during the off season - Lyle designed the costumes - lol

  • LMAO!!

  • Epic song. One of the best.

  • cool this is a good song to listen to and i have every song they had i guess :D

  • The brunette is so beautiful it hurts.

  • I don't like ABBA, never have, cause pop stinks, but I did notice their outfits look similar to those they wore on the movie "Logan's Run"... or I think they look hilariously similar!

  • Once I heard this song I realized I was gay. I thought the guys were hot as hell

  • You gotta love those karate outfits they are wearing! Hilarious!

  • Singing In German, French, Swedish, Spanish and When they sang in English, their Are just Great!

I have every CD and old record format in every language. I don't think anyone else took it to the level that they did to reach so many people of different languages.

I keep waiting for the comeback Record/CD!!!!!

  • If there is anything that defines 70's music, in my opinion it would be ABBA.

There is NO other group that transformed music so greatly, and so differently, and for so long.

    JF

  • I agree....i had all their alblums, until Voulez-Vouz, didnt care for that one...

  • @B52sguy Neil Diamonds Hot August Night Album does it for me, but ABBA were certainly up there.

  • @breadbaker226 I said the 70's, and Neil started in the mid-late 60's.

I just love Neil and all he has done. Thanks for your comment.

    Joseph F

  • Thanks for posting... thank you for uploading it in stereo.

  • Oh Agnetha.....my eternal favorite!!!!!

  • WoW..Frida..looks hott here!!!!

  • abba were wonderful

  • the harmony is impeccable as if the angels are singing. today's artists can learn something from them.

  • well they are lipsinking, and im sure the music studio had something to do with that too

  • I think that sound would be hard to re create for alive audience...i just saw a documentary on them and they didnt like touring or lyp sinching, but they had to

  • Wana hear them sing DQ LIVE ... check out ABBA The Movie 1977 and ABBA in Concert 1979

  • Yes ABBA did lip sync most of there live perfomances. I think it was because it was very hard to produce their unique sound on stage.

  • Now I think most of you can tell they are lip syncing, right?

  • REAAALLLY??? Wow you have made the biggest discovery in all youtube !! LoL

  • I bring it up because more than 90 percent - probably closer to 100 percent - of musicians/acts performed LIVE on The Midnight Special. Even the Bay City Rollers performed live! But I also know that members of Abba didn't speak English very well.

  • Agnetha is incredible. She slays me every time.
