This song is a favorite of me and my niece's...we used to sing this all the time.. May She Rest In Peace... I miss her so much..but I have our memories...I can never listen to this anymore without tearing up...ahhh..but I still love it so.
I graduated high school in 1976. Even though I am more of a classic rock guy, this song holds a special place in my heart. All most every time I would drop off my girlfriend after a date, this song came on the car radio. My girlfriend and I have been married for 32 years now! This is "our song". :)
I can dig the Dancing Queen! A real piano player, real singers and state of the art synthesizers. Chris Carter and Cosie Fannie Tutti (Chris and Cosey) were fond of them. I am too.
A rainy day, 1977, maybe 1976. Going to school, a cold and damp day. No umbrella? who cares. This song in the background. Wait, I have an exam, I can't think about music right now. Biology is the word. Will I make the grade? will I flunk? That was 35 years ago and I'm here, reminiscing. Life is good, isn't it?
There's a fake ABBA band touring now called "Bjorn Again!" One night in Atlanta, the REAL Bjorn played on stage with them. Nothing like a sense of humor...
@catchersmitt0 I think they're using a back up tape. The piano, guitar and vocals are probably live, but the orchestra back ground vocals are a tape. At least they're not outright lip synching.
@catchersmitt0 I think they're using a back up tape. The piano, guitar and vocals are probably live, but the orchestra and back ground vocals are a tape. At least they're not outright lip synching.

I really miss the 70's and the music that I enjoyed as a boy. While my preference is more rock and roll, I have an appreciation for all genres of that era, and ABBA is no exception. Re-visiting these old classics brings a little joy to my life in a very ugly time for this once great country. I'm afraid our best days are, indeed, in the past.
Nothing better than lip syncing in matching white kimonos - c'mon! They could have hired a band and pulled this off. I'm disgusted. Frida and the other dame are hot, however.
disco ball 9, the biggest 70s classic disco live concert in the world, sat oct 16, 2010 at trump taj mahal casino resort atlantic city nj usa . 13 disco artists.
This song was almost impossible to perform live due to the range of almost five octaves required by Agnetha and Frida in it. It is a fine example of what was called the "third voice" of Abba that the girls achieved when they hit the notes just perfect
ABBA personifies what the seventies were all about with their most unique sexy-rock tempo and music arrangements that were genius in concept and presentation, and that my friends...never grows old!!
How can you not like ABBA? :) Such feel good uplifting music. I play their music at work. I see alot of people smile and get into the music and even start dancing.lol
The midnight Special usually featured live acts. I would say for sure there is music being piped into this version and it does sound polished. But ABBA was amazing live! Their performances were spot on with the record releases. The ladies voices were just magic together! Look up "ABBA - Dancing Queen Live" and listen to the live concert version too!
I see them advertising "Midnight Special" video compilations but I never saw the show. Note the ABBA logo without the reversed "B". Frida is such a hottie. But those karate outfits make them look dangerous.
Yes, on every Friday night at 11:30, get wasted and watch your favorite groups when you couldn't afford the concerts... It ran for around ten years straight...
@ACEBAKER911 The Midnight Special was an hour long show on Friday nights at 11:30PM on NBC. It was first hosted by John Denver - and had a different rock and roll band - every Friday night. It was put together by Burt Sugarman!!
@Earthlinked I watched it each and every week as a youth. I then would watch Don Kirshner's Rock Concert. I have always loved music and can say I grew up with the greatest songs and musicians the world will ever see. Today's crap can't hold a candle to the wonderful sounds of the 70's and 80's.
@yucchhiiowwee THIS IS REAL MUSIC.......WHAT THE HECK ARE THEY PLAYING TODAY? A BUNCH OF THUG HIP HOP MESS....AND THE JONAS BROTHERS, RHIANNA, BRITANNY SPEARS.......THEY CALL THAT MESS MUSIC......I BEG TO DIFFER........I WAS 12 WHEN THIS WAS RECORDED.....AND I AM GLAD AT LEAST I HAD A CHANCE TO LIVE IN A COMPLETELY BETTER ERA....NOT JUST FOR MUSIC...BUT FOR "LIFE".......TODAY SUCKS
@justcruzzinn So, you beg to differ with what? What my comment said about the stuff they CALL music today is something you agreeing to. I don't know about you, but I'm about to turn 55 yrs old in august. Most people wanna think I'm closed minded about music today. They don't understand my passion for "MUSIC"...NOT (C)RAP or anything else that they TRY to emulate as MUSIC! Give me something to be open minded about. But your right, todays stuff is PURE GARBAGE!!!!
@yucchhiiowwee .........well said........I'm 47 and we grew up with Boston, Dan Folgeberg, Journey, Foreigner, Kenny Rogers, etc.,...all types of different music....and that WAS MUSIC...AND TALENT...Today, it is pure garbage...The only singer I can think of who actually "sings" with talent is Celine Dione. And yes, American Idol has some good talented singers..BUT, the "songs" suck...they cannot WRITE music anymore...IMO
@MRAMX390 thats the fricken truth just watching reminds me of being younger before cable when musicians were musicians and not worried about all the money they can make.....what happened to the days when stevie nicks and the allman brothers, david bowie and many more would hang out and party together and with the fans as well they were actually real and not a robot programmed
No offense, but The Midnight Special ran for 90 minutes, not an hour. And it didn't just have "a different rock & roll band every Friday night" -- it had numerous bands, and comedians, on each show. It was a musical variety show that aired right after Johnny Carson each week and ran for about 8 years IIRC.
@Ken5244 In Atlanta - it ran for 60 minutes - I found an old TV Guide!!!!!! I'm sure the format changed a few times - but was - as you said - always several bands/singers/comedians!!!
Well, then you guys in Atlanta got cheated! *laugh* I guess we were fortunate in So. California at the time 'cuz it always ran for 90 minutes.
Now that we're talking about it, I vaguely remember something about some stations not wanting to air the show 'cuz they usually signed off the air right after Carson's show ended (this was long before all-night television). So maybe the NBC affiliate in Atlanta cut it short or somethin'.
@Ken5244 Atlanta is/was the home of WTBS - Ted Turner's station was THE ONLY all night station that had 100% of the all night audiance - and Truner wanted to keep it that way!!! CBS and ABC had the news at 1:30AM then of the air at 2:00!!!! NBC (on Friday) was Carson 11:30 - Midnight Special 12:30 - News 1:30 - Off the air 2:00!!!!!! Ted liked it that way - made him a billionaire!!!!;-)))
Dancinig Queen is a Masterpiece of a Pop anthem representing the 70s. Even though i am a Hard Rocker I absolutly NEVER get tired of this song!! No matter how many times I have Heard it.
@thornbuh Same here! Even though I prefer AC/DC, Slayer, King Diamond, and Quiet Riot, among others, I "tend to shift musical gears," every now and then, and listen to a non-heavy rock song.
you are confusing Milly Vanilly with a fake group that happened in early 90's and the poor soul took his own life. This was a live show , if you never heard of Midnight Special Friday evening show you missed a great show... It was live!
I don't like ABBA, never have, cause pop stinks, but I did notice their outfits look similar to those they wore on the movie "Logan's Run"... or I think they look hilariously similar!
Singing In German, French, Swedish, Spanish and When they sang in English, their Are just Great!
I have every CD and old record format in every language. I don't think anyone else took it to the level that they did to reach so many people of different languages.
I think that sound would be hard to re create for alive audience...i just saw a documentary on them and they didnt like touring or lyp sinching, but they had to
I bring it up because more than 90 percent - probably closer to 100 percent - of musicians/acts performed LIVE on The Midnight Special. Even the Bay City Rollers performed live! But I also know that members of Abba didn't speak English very well.
The greatest pop song in history.

I keep waiting for the comeback Record/CD!!!!!

If there is anything that defines 70's music, in my opinion it would be ABBA.
There is NO other group that transformed music so greatly, and so differently, and for so long.

@B52sguy Neil Diamonds Hot August Night Album does it for me, but ABBA were certainly up there.

@breadbaker226 I said the 70's, and Neil started in the mid-late 60's.
I just love Neil and all he has done. Thanks for your comment.

Wana hear them sing DQ LIVE ... check out ABBA The Movie 1977 and ABBA in Concert 1979
adamghaniahmad 2 years ago
Yes ABBA did lip sync most of there live perfomances. I think it was because it was very hard to produce their unique sound on stage.
ramjet5 2 years ago 3
Now I think most of you can tell they are lip syncing, right?

REAAALLLY??? Wow you have made the biggest discovery in all youtube !! LoL
valetudo2000 2 years ago
I bring it up because more than 90 percent - probably closer to 100 percent - of musicians/acts performed LIVE on The Midnight Special. Even the Bay City Rollers performed live! But I also know that members of Abba didn't speak English very well.
