He DID ruin the original one because people actually think it is his song and they think he is capable of writing a genius song like Gotta Be Somebody, but no he is terrible and his version got higher in the charts and in his own words, he said that his was better and Nickelback should be happy he put some 'Shane Ward Magic' in to the song.
