NO NO NO!!! STOP!!!! This is NOT AT ALL the proper care for a hermit crab!!! They need a tank substrate foood fresh water and SALT water!!! Before i got my two hermit crabs Layla and Carver, I did A LOT of research like now i can tell what kind of gender thy are or what do to if their molting and i know how love them!!! If you agree thumbs up and if you want a video of MY hermit crabs message me!!!!! Please think before buying!!!!
Make sure you have atleast 1 sponge for them to get they're water, a small shell to put they're food in,and salt water and fresh water bath.Hint water cannot be tap.I use Purelife bottles and deer park
@GloBalGlitChAz10 heres what i do about this and its cheap.keep a old pickle jar or milk jug.rinsce itout.get a pan and boil the water for about a minute or two.maby longer.then poor the water into a jug or other container such aas the milk jug or pickle jar.then allow it to cool to room temperature and just poorit in a shell.its the cheapest way.or just keep some water setting by a window for two to three days.but that takes longer.
find new homes for your hermit crabs unless you're willing to buy more stuff for them. They need to be able to climb and have things to do. How would you feel if all you can do was walk around and do nothing? Normal faucet water is BAD for crabsm they need both brakish and fresh water. They need more than one hiding place, and more room than a 10 gallon for more than two.
cute crabs, but they need deeper sand so that they can burrow & molt successfully. tiny/small crabs need at least 4-5 inches of sand & i'd suggest using play sand or something better, like reef sand or beach sand. you should also add more climbing toys, hiding places, & maybe a second level using a shower caddy filled with sand or eco-earth.
Y R YOURS SO ACTIVE??? Mine r THE boringest pets EVER! All they do is stay in their freakin shells all day AND night long!!! Anything is better than a hermit crab! AND I wasted at least 60 bucks on literally pet shells!!!
maybe you don't have environment to how they prefer if you haven't already buy a thermometer and a hydrometer make sure they tank is at least 70 degrees and the humidity is atleast 70% have some toys in the tank too like bio-vine or stairs and they should be active oh and if you spent 60 just on shells you got too many
to say its not peoples fault is bullshit if people did thier own independent research before buying any pet then these things wouldnt happen pets are not an impulse buy
but it should also be the pet stores legal duty to inform new owners of the minimum care requirements
if people see a pet in a shop and they want to buy it the store is suposed to give them the correct info in regards to care and enviroment
unfortuantly in the real world this dosent happen 2not just with hermit crabs" but most exotic species too, pet stores will often neglect to say whats really required because if people knew the full costs involved they wont buy it
i agree and dis-agree because where i live they say do you have this do you have that and then there like ok btw for those that dont know this is what all you NEED aquarium - depends on size Sand from lowes - 5.00 Eco-Earth brick - 5.00 Mist bottle-$2 Salt water/fresh water/food dish - $4.00 ea Extra shells - 3.00 a package Thermometer/Hydrometer - $8.00 Hideys - $1.00 - $20.00 20 gallon Screen Top - 15.00 Under Tank Heater -$10 Dechlorinator-"$3-$4 instant ocean-$7.85 all of it
@AntCatcher11 You know people, thumbs up if you agree that for some people it is a first with animals/crabs, whatever what I am saying is, dont go and hate on people for thinking things are right when they might not be.
For this guy/girl, yeah you may be sad for the crabs, but it is not the persons fault, they think its right. Hopefully this guy/girl is not reading the comments because just think how hurt he/she is after reading mean peoples comments. There should not be a dislike button!
Wow, they are are so active and curious!! I may be getting a couple soon. I think i'll name them Gwendolyn and Tiki. Got any other ideas? (BTW, you are a good crab parent..lol)

Depends on how many gallons your tank is. For every crab there should be at least three gallons worth of space. Do the math.

dawnbatistelli 2 years ago
lol I don't see why people think you have to have a 15 gallon tank! So you get a green thumb from me.
19allden19 2 years ago
Yes, they do need more climbing material, but they are jiwenen's crabs and she can do anything she wants with them... Here is what my crabies have:
About 5 inches of moist sand
A 2 foot Tank
Salt & Fresh Water
Food
A Giant Vine Which spreads all around the tank
Spare and empty shells
And of course each other!
they are fine if they have someone to talk to,which I mean other crabs

They dont need more than 1 hiding place nor do they need only a 10 g tank. They need at least a 7 gallon with a fresh and sailt water bowl.
Also they need a least 2 things to climb on.
They need one hiding place and 2 hermit crabs can fit in a 7 g tank or bigger.
Oh and they also need a partner and alot of sand probly about 4 inchs NOT dirt.
They need shells that will fit them and a food bowl.
And need 70-80% of humity and heat in there tank to serve for like 2 years.
:)

I disagree with the comment below. My Hermit Crabs are just fine without all that stuff, JUST FINE.

i agree my hermit crab has normal faucet water nd sand from petsmart nd a coconut for shelter

Yes, so do mine.
And if you get a Hermit Crab you shouldn't get them sand from Lowes....? That's another problem with the comment from ilovegurls59

@HeeroWithAGun Yes they do, where the hell have you been? They tell me they're fine all the time :P
PurrfectKittenAngel 1 year ago
also..make sure you have 2 water dishes, one for freshwater & one for saltwater, make sure you use salt made for salt water aquariums.

yay, i'm not the only one whose sand sticks to my crabs because of the humidity!

Nice set up, you might want to make the substrate deeper so they acn molt. Cute crabbies!!

Your substrate is to shallow for your hermit crabs to burrow and molt in.

Do you have any care for living creatures? Its people like you that are making some many animals go extinct or get abused!
AntCatcher11 3 years ago 19
why do people always think they know better
it isnt the people's fault that pet stores dont bother to explain how to propely care for them
im sure avter this person relises that more things are required they will do there best to provide the nesesary items
dont always assume that people deribletly do these things because they are cruel or unkind to animals
because that is just rediculous!!
puggster 3 years ago
I wasn't talking to the poster of the vidoe.
and I understand the entire pet store thing. I am talking about people who have no respect for living things no matter how small they are.
