I'm surprised to hear someone not appreciating Billy Talbot on drums. Seems to me Neil just tells the rhythm-keepers to find a groove and stay there...It turns all his tunes with them into true meditations...I so love it...top o' the rock category for moi... Thanks for this gift...
Ralph Molina isn't lame at all. Crazy Horse aren't "chops" players and that's how Neil likes it. They have great feel and play with almost innocent emotional commitment. It's a rare thing to find. Neil could play with whoever he wants, and at the moment he's playing with some faceless show-off jerk-off and it's just not the same and he seems lost onstage.
I went to this show. This was billed as "Hippie Dream". The previous year at Princeton Landing in Half Moon Bay they were billed as the "Echoes" which I managed to get into 4 of the 14 shows.
@11xzxzxz ive been a fan since havvest[ i was too young to get buffalo springfield when they were relavent?] ive listened or owned 20 niel young albums since then. this is real always was aways will be. dont be denied its time to go to work. lol
"When I was a young boy, My mama said to me Your daddy's leavin' home today, I think he's gone to stay...." "....Well, all that glitters isn't gold I know you've heard that story told. And I'm a pauper in a naked disguise A millionaire through a business man's eyes. Oh friend of mine Don't be denied...." What is it about the hum of an amp and the strum of a chord that it can so comfort one's self as it reverberates through you like the most subtle of caresses? Don't be denied.
Great story about this show. It was May 8, 1997 not the 5th as mentioned on the other clip. My friend and i drove 7 hrs to the Bay Area because we heard a rumor about a stealth Crazy Horse gig happening "around the time" that Jim Jarmusch's Year of the Horse movie premiere was happening in SF. Sure enough Neil in true prankster fashion staged the stealth gig AT THE EXACT SAME TIME as the movie premiere! i have this whole show on dvd (same source as these clips). B+P for anyone wanting this!

@ekaminar True . This was a reference to something else - sorry secret message . But was Neil about 14 or 15 when the punches came? Just not sure.
