Russians and Europeans are the only ones that dock to the station in full automatic mode. USA only have test automatic docking on a military test satellite, and was not fully successful.
@HordeFTL yeah sure it was different in that it was for cargo and unmanned. i am aware that both the US and the Russians send manned ships - but the US doesnt send automatic ships as yet. the Russians are some how ahead of us in some fields - and we are ahead in others - although currently docked to the ISS there are 4 Russian ships and one US - the Endeavour. and it looks like the Japs will be next back to the moon now.
@KingGoddard: Just as zer0graph says: not enough contrast range to get the exposure right for the well lit docking facilities and for the stars at the same time. And regarding the video: It says in the off-voice that these are snap-shots, so don't expect it to be moving pictures. :-)
@KingGoddard there are no stars for the same reason you don't see stars in the Moon landing videos: exposure. If you expose for something very bright (under sunlight or other kinds of direct light) the stars will be too dim to be seen.
Simple but yet entertaining and engaging..

@adamb0000
They can indeed. Unmanned progress vehicles have docked and are docking to the station smoothly. But I'm sure the Americans can do so as well.

Oh, I wasn't aware of that :D
Well I guess every space organisation has its own advantages and disadvantages.

No the russian module that docked before is completely differant, Russians and Americans both go up on manned missions to the ISS

Why aren't there any stars and why is this video so crappy?
