  • Nice "juke" joint..As a Sax player myself..I can remember playing late night until 3 AM,,Trading off the solos

  • If you want to know what it's like to just go out and play a simple head......then wail....this is it...... Dig the way the two of them admire each others work. Dex is in "qoutesville" as usual......("Here Comes the Bride".....among others. Red never sounded better.

  • Dexter at his best!

  • great

  • Yeah!

  • Dois gigantes

  • God knows what Chood would have done if he had stayed clean, out of jail, etc. Is bass NHOP?

  • Fan Damn Tastic!!!

  • Thanks for this/Knew Red from Vegas and worked with Dex in 1970 in the Canary Islands with Irv Rochlin, Jimmy Gourley, Ronnie Gardiner, Duke Morgan, Don Jetter. Dex was back! I didn't see Red after 1967, He won 25K Keno prize and I think he split Vegas but I am not sure. There were lots of great players in Vegas including Sam Noto, James Moody, Joe Romano, Carl Fontana, etc.

  • Don't know which part of Scandinavia the drummer is from but that's one Ruud Ride Cymbal right there. And the Viking himself on bass: another VSOP performance from Mr NHOP. as for Long Tall and Red, no one blew better.

  • Great Gig!!!!! Thanks for posting....

  • Drummer may be Sven Erik Nörregaard?

  • Can someone please tell me who the drummer is?? This guy is swingin' his ass off !!!!

  • @zappacrappa2

My guess is this was recorded at the Monmartre Jazzhuis in Copenhagen with the house trio: Kenny Drew, pno; NHOP, bass and Alex Riel on drums.

  • @blue47er Thanks for the info blue47er !

  • @blue47er Thanks for the response. I think the drummer is not Alex Riel, though. I've checked out videos of Alex Riel and he doesn't seem like the person in the video.

  • Yes!! This really gets off the ground. Notghing like the crap being played today.

  • Fantastic Dex 'n' Red concert footage!

I love to see the 2 of 'em swayin' back & forth to each other's solos, too - a nice 'live' touch, which was caught by the cameras a few times.

Thanks for uploading some very hip jazz history!

  • Great post!! Great Dexter, Red and the rhythm section. The kind of swinging and group playing I wish was still around. No, it's not done this way anymore. Thanks very much.

  • Plus Kenny and NHØP. Who is on the drums ?
