  • Sometimes I can hit a few whistle-like sounds, but I can't to extend these sounds... It's really annoying.

  • Omg my throat hurts from watching this.

  • Ha! I knew how to do this before watching this!

  • A5 is the highest note I can hint and that's only when I belt it.

  • The only way I can hit those notes is through a mix of some weird nasal or fry technique mixed with letting out lots of air. Lame. I'm actually so pissed that I cant do this as easily and carelessly as Brent.

  • yeah, men can do it...I was able to belt out c7...but that was before I started smoking and with less deeper voice which is like 4 years ago...now i truly regret that habit and I want my voice back...is there a way to that, brent?

  • is it whistle???????????

  • @thesofia I don't understand what you mean by "fake"...not a REAL voice? if it comes out of you its REAL regardless of where it's being generated. that's like telling a guitarist that the harmonics on his strings don't amount to REAL notes. Granted, it isn't what could be described as "full" voice, but definitely REAL! Auto tune is FAKE! lip-synching while aerobicizing is FAKE.

  • @nailband I think Sofia meant that they thought the voice wasn't real, not that the technique made the singing inferior.

  • I got it but I do having trouble in my v.c,what should I do.

  • I thought only girls could do this, but no! Great news. It's time to TRY IT ON

  • Sorry, meant to say after the *note* is completed.

  • For whistle, you kind of close off the passage between your throat and your mouth and allow most of your air to escape by going past the nasopharynx, up into your head, and out your nasal passage. That small blast of breath sound you hear at the end of Mariah Carey's whistle notes is the opening of the passage between the throat and the mouth and an allowance of the remaining air to escape after the not is completed.

  • As falsetto, your natural voice can go really high, so don't feel like, I made it, I'm mariah Carey, no, and if you do it properly you should be able to sustain it many seconds and have a whistle register

  • Excuse me, I can sing this but it came naturally. I sang like it as a GUY and then i heard mariah carey do it. AND I CAN'T STOP SINGING HER NOW AND I MATCH HER VOICE

  • I found it! Never thought I would be able too

  • I just found it! But, is it supposed to come out with inhaling???? Not breathing out?

  • this is fake is not real voice

  • if you cant do it,you just cant do it!!few people has the charisma

  • child:mum mum mum mum mum mum!

    mom:WHAT!

  • 2:10 does anyone else hear someone screaming?

  • I really want to get whistle range and have been trying for about 9/10 months. I have got up to D#7, but the problem is, I cannot get these notes without using backward phonation or manually squeezing my throat. Any upward gliss with or without vocal fry stops short around C#6-Eb6 and wont go any higher. I KNOW these notes are there, but atm, cant only access them by putting my hand round my throat. (this also affect tuning) PLEEEASE can you give me some further advice? :D

  • 1:34 - 1:40

    Gross!! :o

  • This is weird but while watching this my throat started hurting. Isn't that strange?

  • I like this demonstration video! But for all the people that want to sing comfortable in they're Whistle Register like Mariah and Christina then you have to be born with that. I don't believe you can teach yourself to sing in that register the way they do. I do believe that you can do what he did and create notes.

  • /watch?v=WNlQedxTaDg help!!

  • OMG u"re amzing!

  • like if ur watching this christmas time and there's a snowflake button

  • i can do this but will this ruin my voice? my voice feels strained if i do it for a while

  • I just tried this for the first time today & did it. I can't believe how high I could go...It freaked ppl out...

  • I cannot see your face with that hat on, and it comes off as offensive and antisocial. Please show your full face in the future! Makes such a difference, especially when I only *meet* you for thirty seconds or so. Thanks for the tips/story, though!

  • @presquevoo what the fuck is wrong with u,LOL

  • i did it

    \

  • thats some fucked up shit....i didnt know you could even do that. People have trouble whistling with their lips and tongue, let alone their voice box haha

  • If this is in the program I'm buying it

  • I can't even squeak like that

  • I can sort of get the squeak and it sounds like a very fast Indian Snake Charmer flute playing runs very fast, very uncontrollable. I wonder how long it takes your vocal chords to adjust to control the notes? I hope I'm hitting the right sound.

  • this helps a lot! but its just funny. (x

  • Im gonna try this :D

  • your using reverse phonation for your whistle note,

  • can u make more videos on this it seems really hard to do, and i really want to learn how to do it

  • That was kinda creepy.

  • "Just add some vibrato to it".... are you kidding me!. Vibrato can't be added, it comes naturally!. I've bought this myself and found it useless!!. I've been taking proper classical training for almost a year now and my range is 4 octaves... so far. I'd advice people NOT to buy this and take proper lessons one 2 one with a teacher.

  • @MSG26290 I think ur the one who needs a new teacher....... vibrato is practiced and it doesn't come naturally. professional singers have total control when they want to have vibrato. for Most of them it comes naturally cause they use it all the time.

  • @M23jnba This Brett Manning stuff is fairly new compared to Classical technique which has been around for years!. I am open minded and have tried this and I'll admit It was ok and I easily transitioned from chest into my whistle!, but I find one to one with a teacher much easier as they are there to help you...(your not just listening to someone on a dvd disc). I am considering giving it another go since I no alot more about my voice now compared to when I first bought Brett Manning.

  • @MSG26290 How does vibrato come naturally? I studied classical technique for 3 years and never had a controllable vibrato. A year and a half of working on singing success i now have good vibrato, much more relaxed vocalization and a much better range. I would suggest the reason it did not work for you is because you were not doing it properly. I have had only success from it and so have my students.

  • @agapemusic28 Well I've never been classically trained yet vibrato comes naturally, to me I neevr knew what ti was once someone pointed out that I sing like a sheep, and I searched up what the sound was. I can't sing without vibrato.

  • this is just bizarre lol

  • addind some WD40 here

  • I use this kind of whistle register too! check out my video!

    bZ372aghDQQ

  • I'm still confused on how to find my whistle voice. i think i find it when i watch this video, but forget after its done. Its also very low - is that normal?

  • I figured it out :D

  • omb im so happy i found this vid cuase iv always wanted 2 noe how 2 do dis whistle voice thing :)

  • THANK YOU! I love this man!

  • Thats not whistle, it was just a hell!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • just like that, no big deal. :)

  • it worked for me, for a second. it was amazing. i couldn't believe that, that actually came out of my mouth. and then it disappeared. sucks, but i'll keep practicing, and relaxing. don't forget to relax. good luck to all who try.

  • Its not working for me.

  • Wow - this tip helped me hit F6 again....something I haven't done for about ten years! Thank you so much - I wish I could afford some lessons with you!

  • yaaaay i did it... :D

  • He's great. I'd really like to learn the whistle register but it hurts (hence being worked and not discovered.) I have taught myself some higher notes with his method that I didn't think I could hit. It's great :)

  • Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i found mine this morning when i tried to sing la la la la la shobi doobi do dooo then my voice cracked and i was doing it

  • brett manning knows what he's talking about cuz i found my whistle voice

  • there is any vocal cord closure when doing whistle voice ? :)

  • this video made my dogs freak out lol

  • DOLPHIN WARLOCK

  • How is it impossible to take your whole voice up there? Mariah can talk in it and actually sing phrases and wordss.... I guess some people are naturally born with the talent, yes we can push ourselves there but people like Mariah do it so comfortably

  • @TheMickj23q Exactly.

  • @TheMickj23q practice is a wondrous thing.

  • @TheMickj23q He means that you can't do mix voice that high and it's true because the sound is too thin. You can speak in it, I have, and Mariah discovered it by first speaking like that in a high whisper. Look up the video of Mariah words in whistle and phrases.

  • @radiorecord1 I know I made that video lol

  • @TheMickj23q i have been doing the whistle since i was 10 lol and im 16 now and lol its started out as me talking in it as a funny voice for a joke lol untill my mom herd me and she was like OMG do that again loll and now i sing in it and talk speak words its really easy lol

  • @sarafranco100 u got it :) thats how mariah found it too

  • @TheMickj23q ha wow i didnt know that but i do know when i audtioned to get into my performing arts school and i sang a song and i hit the whistle lol the judges mouths droped to the floor lol i got so embarassed but yh i totally got in

  • @sarafranco100 u should upload a video of you singing it! would love to hear it

  • @sarafranco100 Im a guy and i could do whisle voice when I was 7. But now I cant.

  • @TheMickj23q prime example, the singer Rochelle Ferrel (i think i mispelled her name)

  • @TheMickj23q Technical Mariah is not actually bringing chest up see is just singing loudly in whistle

  • @TheMickj23q

She is truly one of most talented singer on this planet...

  • @TheMickj23q she still dosent take her full voice, lol she is just able to speak inn a higher voice much easier then others :) i myself do it and its just liek talking but ur free with no feeling

  • @TheMickj23q Sounding full up in high notes doesn't mean you take your full voice up there. Of course you can talk in sing in it, only your vocal cords are not vibrating on their entire length.

  • The only time I have a whistle is when I'm hoarse from illness, like a cold. Then I hit those whistle notes, effortlessly. When I'm well, it goes away.

  • @TheLanard its the opposite for me

  • @TheLanard foreal :o?

  • @TheLanard that's not whistle, your vocal cords are swollen. In whistle singing, you should have control over it, you should be able to sing IN TUNE. If you can't, then it's not a whistle.

  • @greeky1 Actually, I AM able to sing IN TUNE, even when that happens. I do have control over my voice in its entire range. I can sustain notes and vibrato in that whistle area. It takes much concentration, but I do it. I do know it's not normal, though. So I no longer try it when I'm hoarse, which after training, I've learned not to get hoarse. Thanks for the tip, though.

  • @TheLanard, SAME HERE!!

  • @TheLanard I can only sing low when I'm sick. Lol XD

  • @TheLanard It's whisper register not whistle, it naturally happens early morning and when your voice is cracky. Mariah named it "whisper register"

  • when he said "brett" he sounded like he was gonna say michaels after lol

  • I thought that If you force a note that's really difficult (not yet painful though) You risk not only damaging your vocal chords but your control over your voice as well. I mean im able to extend that *squeek* for a short periods of time with vibrato but afterwords my voice feels thin and I have trouble staying on key.

  • Mariah Carey seriously needs to see Brett right now lol

  • Sos grosso sabelo

  • I need to really try this when I get home

  • Do any of you have the Singing Success program? I have a few questions.

  • @WeLostTheGame Yeah

  • only mariah carey can do it well though...or if you''re dying. LOL

  • @olegario39 ...that is completely untrue. Mariah Carey is not the only person to do a whistle well. Check out Lisa Fisher Ease The Pain, Minnie Riperton. Tip: Blanket statements usually reveal arrogance or ignorance - most of the time both.

  • @bella50008 Right you are. Eivor Palsdottir is the best I've personally heard but alas there are no videos on here with her whistle register.

  • @bella50008 i bet you don't know this MAN...Adam Lopez :)

do check out his song 'Till The End Of Time' ...he does an AMAZING whistle @3:25 - 3:33 of the song...he is currently the record holder for the highest note ever achieved by a male...and i think he is really underrated...should have been way more famous than the new artists out today...cuz he's MUCH more talented...

  • @akashnai90 ...Actually I heard him a few weeks ago. Saw the vid regarding his vocal range and his world record info. Again, the whistle is admirable, but lots of people can do it (wish i could) - and many like Mariah make it sound heavenly.

  • @bella50008 yeah that's right...but VERY few MEN can access whistle register...and even fewer men can actually CONTROL it...i'll agree with you...Mariah's whistle is among the best :)

  • I want to discover more of you SEXY BEAST. Better go try this shizz out

  • Jesus christtttt i want him to be my vocal coach!

  • I LOVE THIS MAN!

  • BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA he sounded like a dog!!!!!!! You know when a dog whines?? Anyway, great stuff:) Thanks Brett!

  • Why can i reach whistle register when iv had alot of alcohol recently? and my head voice is more clear and it don't break out.. WHY!?

  • @TheGrade2011 Maybe when youre drunk youre more relaxed up there

  • @Tzoni ah good point :P

  • @TheGrade2011 the same thing happens to me!!!

  • i don´t get the screech if i want to go higher just air comes out of my mouth and if i relax my vocal chords then the sound gets lower

  • @mrsingersongwriter1 eric martin from mr.big uses it (mr.big is a famous hard rock band)

  • YES I DID IT!!!!!!!!!! IN LIKE 5 MINUTES

  • i discovered my whistle a long time never worked on it tho... question- what would it be good for and how can i use it to wow judges

  • Is it really so easy? :D

  • @dotka95 No...but it can be MADE easy, with some work. Whistle tone is the hardest higher register to learn, and the hardest to maintain. Even full-on belting is easier, because at least you can get practise in it when in theatre or choir. Whistle register is the use of the very tip-top of the vocal cords, getting you a sort of 'rafter' quality, and it feels like the roof of your cords when singing in it. It should be relaxed and free- not easy to do when your body is telling you differently.

  • @kamrenfan yeah it can get tiring on you and your cords, it really runs the mileage on em lol.

  • Sorry, new to this, is your throat allowed to strain a little? it doesn't hurt but i can feel it tensing a bit on the highest notes...?

  • Is this Like Screaming??/

  • Please help: i can sing the whistle tones, but i have a lot of trouble connecting my head voice to the whistle register and using it on command, as opposed to having to use it seperately... For example, i can practice the whistle tone but i have trouble implementing it say the next breath after singing a normal melody. I really want to be able to flow between head voice into whistle tones and any advice would be great. also what are some good techniques for getting more complex melodies going?

  • I can hit whistle notes at G6 (im a tenor with a max range of d2 to c5+ g5 falsetto) but it feels wrong. how can i practice them? like maybe if i keep doing it it will get easier, maybe ill just ruin my voice? any suggestions?

  • I like your instructions. Thank you.

  • Man, Brett Manning is a vocal genius.

  • Sometimes when i can finally do whistle after i cant do falsetto or is not so easier as before, is that normal?

  • Sometimes when i can finally do whistle after i cant do falsetto or is not so easier as before, is that normal?

  • can someone please respond to this? I'm a bass who can hit an A1 to an F#4

is there any possibilty for a guy like me to be able to unlock my whistle?

i know that register is for mostly girls and for the guys there usually all tenors i.e.Adam Lopez and Prince but Mr. Manning and all youtubers. is it at all possible for me to get up there?

    '

  • @MrChillywilly1234 hiya... I am a bass also... and still don't know what's going on... I have whistle... but the air flows backwards... it hits G5 really weird, but when i breathe in... I can't figure out how to really pull it out breathing out as it should be.

  • @MrChillywilly1234 I'm not one to tell you whats possible for your voice or not. Not to sound like a salesperson, but you ought to get the Singing Success program its done wonders for my voice even though I already have a voice teacher. He goes over the vocal fry training exercise in depth and you can use it to find your whistle voice.

  • Instead of hurting, it tickled REALLY bad xD

  • i hit my whistles the exact way you described it, now i can go from c2 to d7

  • omg the moment i watched this i found my whistle voice damn!! love you brett tnx a lot its pretty weak but i'll build i so wann buy your singing success program

  • I managed to hit my frist whislte note but only sustained it for 3 seconds and haven't been able to repeat it since Im guessing my pitch is off or my voice isn't thinning out enough

  • That is not a whistle. He's forcing that sound out, not only is it not a reak whistle, it sounded shocking.

  • MAN THIS IS GUY IS GOOD......OH AND I LOVE THE GUITAR MUSIC AT THE BEGINNING

  • Won't this ruin your chest voice? It seems like you'd be damaging your vocal chords with this technique. Anyone have a different opinion?

  • @HopefulSingerEmily I think it can if you abuse it but I'm not sure. I think Mariah Carey said that her vocals arn't as good because of the Whistle Registers she performed.

  • i love you! You're the best!

  • beautiful! I'm from Brazil! Love it!

  • i use singing success and i do well. I use to have the whistles notes and i still do but because of voice abuse i lost the ability to sing them easily.

Now my range is G#2 up to G#6 and everyday i can easier go higher. My goal is to go up to E#7 again maybe G#7.

    I am actually very happy.

  • All I can tell you is that I bought Singing Success and started using it and it changed my voice almost immediately. I gained more than a full octave overnight and now it doesn't hurt to sing for hours at a time. Have you guys tried it?

  • Thank you. You're a great vocal trainer

  • this video took me from a f4 to an e5 straight away, thats full notes, and i can squek higher, i will try turning queks into notes, thankyou, awesome video

  • E6?

  • Awesome tip! I'm a soprano and I can go high, but whistle note I was like no way.

But after seeing this I was like couldn't hurt to try it and I did it and with vibrato! :D Hit a whistle note! So happy, thanks for the tip! I'm not a Mariah Carey though but will keep practicing it and when I sing a song next time I'm gonna try it and they gonna be like wow! And no it did not hurt, just shocked me big time that I could do that. :)

  • hi every one i have posted a vid of my whistle note :) i realy cant help haveing 6 octaves(a btwn g befor middle C and into Gs after middle C) i have a girl talking voice :( it never deepend, lmao so i talk and sing like a girl oh and i have pretty boy girly looks, smh but i just got singed to label so wish me luck!!

  • HOLY MOLE! THATS HIGH!

  • you are freaking AWESOME!! I am on a budget to buy you Program I bet it will help me a lot.

  • how da hell hed do that lol

  • OMG thank you thank you thank you sooooo much, you've just given me the confidence i needed and I am sure with practice I will get to do it! :)

  • I Just Find my Whistle Voice by myself..

i just inhaling some air to my throat then there are shrilling sounds that will produce

my whistle voice is a breathy one..just like Mariah Carey does..

  • How the heck do you add vibrato to that O_O Omygosh!

  • How do you sing with that soft breathy sound that Mariah Carey does all the time?

  • He doesn't say anything about the larynx position and tongue position? Is the larynx supposed to be in a neutral position? And what about the tongue - high, low, anything else? If I don't know these details, how can I find my whistle?? I will only end up hurting myself.

  • It never comes unless i practice soprano, both are essential.

  • Minnie Riperton is amazing in whistle as well. She's the one who sang Lovin You, she was the best.

  • hey i have question..!!!

do whistles have to be learn from a singer or not..!!

i want to learn that professionally..!!

  • 2:04 ''if it hurts 'stop'....it shouldn't hurt....it should be discovered more than worked for....

    ^_^

    exactly!

  • I've tried hitting those "Mariah notes", but nothing good came out of it. Because of my breath control issues and me being an alto, I just can't seem to hit the notes. But whenever I do, it's always in mixed voice. This video is very helpful and Brett gets to the point. Thanks a lot, Brett!

  • Do not like it bre ~ Lol!!!

    I love your advice!!
