and gary oldman has no shot at winning this. the last time that happened an upset like that was when Adrien Brody won for The Pianist competing against Daniel Day Lewis and Jack Nicholson (both of them had already won at that time)
Vive Jean Dujardin :) ça fait vraiment plaisir de voir des acteurs français être nominés. Mais j'imagine qu'en terme de carrière je récompenserai davantage Gary Oldman
Didn't Nicole Kidman put on a prosthetic nose for The Hours? That's not exactly taking the make-up off. And have you seen Dujardin speak English? He is actually pretty good. It is just the accent that makes it hard to speak. And UK the biggest supply of actors? Um....yeah, that's not true. Maybe biggest supply of foreign actors.
Jean Dujardin doit gagner (must win)! He was the heart and soul of The Artist and I sense a great career going his way from it. Plus, he is such a personable and likable guy. I would rather hear his speech than a potentially pretentious one from Clooney any day.
I mix with an episode of critic present their wild card for the 5th nominated for that year... long time ago. But still my bad. Thank you all for that.
I think Jean Dujardin will do better in transitioning to American films the Benini, if he wants to. He is very charismatic and very good looking, two things that Benini didn't have going for him
I have to root for Dujardin, if only because it's probably his last chance at winning a major american award. Also, my french roots wouldn't let me rest. The Frenh have identified George Clooney as his major competitor and there is tons of (pretty good-natured) Clooney bashing going on in the French media right now, it's hilarious to witness.
Oldman sellout a lot? I think if he didn't give movies that sound stupid on paper a shot we wouldn't have Batman Begins and the Dark Knight. That's the great thing about actors like Oldman and Sean Bean. They're great actors but they don't snob small roles.
It is insane that Gary Oldman has never been nominated for an Oscar before. He deserves one for his contribution to cinema. I'd be ok with Jean Dujardin winning, he did a great job in the artist, but Oldman is long over due his credit.
Bichir or Oldman should win if the academy wants to award according to performances. I think Dujardin's performance is a bit overrated. But the academy loves clooney, so clooney will win.
In terms of who DESERVES it more. its obviously Gary Oldman. 33 years without a nomination until now, with the most versatile body of work I've ever seen from an actor. As much as i like pitt and clooney, they play themselves too much. Oldman all the way!!!!!
you actually given me some more hope that Gary Oldman might win. However; I still working on the theory that if Dujuardin wins the SAG, he's winning the Oscar.
I'm rooting for Oldman on this one. However one person I would really like to have seen is Michael Shannon in Take Shelter. I loved that movie and he gave one of the best performances of the year, in my opinion at least.
Although I'm glad Gary Oldman was nominated, I'm disappointed Michael Fassbender was snubbed for Shame. I'll bet on Dujardin for the Artist. He seems like the safest bet.
Hey Grace, are you going to live tweet during the Oscars? Or maybe do a live show that would be fun. as for predictions... Gary Oldman, though the flip flop run was epic.
Octavia Spencer (who right now has America in the palm of her hand, but as Grace says so often, we need to widen the playing field for talented, funny, and outstanding African American talent!)
Gary Oldman really really changed himself for his role, I could not get over it when I found out it was him. He was incredible, his voice was different, his charisma. Even the way he stood was different and his walk was very unique! He was without a doubt the best example of acting I've seen in a while he fully blew me away with his performance and showed an example of 'Real' acting :).
"And World War Z is going to kick ass!"...fast forward to December..."Our BTT reviewers give World War Z only a 2 out of 10". Not saying I don't want this movie to be good...but it would be funny if it turned out this way :)
I thought what gave Pitt more cred is that he's quitting acting in 3 years and World War Z may be his last role- as much as we'd love to see someone win an Oscar for zombie slaying, I doubt the Academy would take to it. I don't like overthinking the Oscars, because these days, it becomes more and more predictable.
Again, I haven't seen any of the movies these guys are staring in for the nominations, but I'm a huge Pitt and Clooney fan, but lets get real here. Gary Oldman is the man!! :) In my opinion, one of the greatest actors of my or any generation. The guy could be filmed reading a knock knock joke, and I'd expect him to be nominated for an Oscar. Go Oldman!! :D
I can't wait to see World War Z. A good part of it was filmed in my home city of Glasgow. I visited the set and saw them filming some of it. It was strange seeing the streets of Glasgow filled with yellow style taxis, American RVs and yellow traffic lights. Not to mention, road signs pointing to destinations that don't exist in our country. That's pretty much the only reason I'm looking forward to it. I've never been big on post-apocalyptic films. They're always so depressing.
I hope Oldman wins. It's about time. He deserves it. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy was a brilliant film. It currently holds an 84% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes proving that the American audiences whom criticized the film were wrong. It doesn't surprise me that the Yanks didn't get it. It was never aimed at their audience in the first place. Yet, we have to put up with all the Americanised Hollywood films that are shown in the UK. No wonder people are turning to European cinema.
I enjoyed all of these performances and wouldnt mind any of these actors walking away with the prize, but I think Clooney has the best chances of winning. I'd love to see Oldman pull an upset just to make up for all the times the Academy snubbed him.
They should give the Oscar to Oldman! Clooney has one, Brad still has many movies coming up and as for Jean and Demian, well let's just say this nomination will definitely boost they're career! These nominations are starting to make more sense now! :D but I still need someone to explain to me how Extremely Loud and incredibly close was nominated over Drive???
The Descendants? 'Rich obnoxious people have their fair share of problems too.' No thanks. Not to mention Clooney's acting in The Descendants is rather wooden. The Academy clearly haven't came across many films which deal with real family issues. I'm from the UK and UK TV and film depicts these type of family issues all the time. The Descendants is overrated and really brings nothing new to the table that we haven't seen before. Boring. Next, please!
Well, in 12 monkeys Pitt played the son of a millionaire. He wasn't homeless, he was an inmate. Remember his line to Bruce Willis in the asylum: Are you one of my fathers minions?
@Argumentitive I loved Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. If Oldman wins I wouldn't begrudge it and I really liked Oldman in the film. My only nagging doubt about his performance is that it seemed a bit like an Alec Guiness impersonation.
Personlly, I think Brad Pitt did an amazing job in Moneyball but Id be happy with anyone of these guys winning if they had only nominated Joseph-Gordon Levitt for 50/50.
