It depends on how skinny. If it's like extremely thin, to the point of almost seeing bone, take it to a vet pronto. If it still has fat content, you might want to try feeding more frequently or by gut-loading crickets or mealworms before you feed it to your gecko. I occasionally give wax worms to my geckos as treats.
my gecko luna does that! haha! and i was holding my cousins gecko (which is her sister) and she jumped out of my hands into the trashcan.... haha she was fine, completely fine, but it was odd digging in the trash for a gecko....
Yeah I never reccomend using the electric hot rocks. They dont turn off if they get too hot and some lizards can actually get burns on their stomachs from laying on them. I haven't heard any good things about them. So I wouldn't try one.
hey how do I get my gecho to get used to coming out and go on my shoulder and stuff I got it when i was in 3rd grade and I always tryed playing with it but it always runs away once it got lost and luckily i found her
maybe you should try talking to your leo, it sounds funny but it works for me because they become interested in you and they will come out of their homes to see you. it may also be your leo's personality, it might be a shy one so it is aware and scared of things.
Haha funniest comment yet!!! Sorry to burst your bubble, but Maya is 100% female. Unless you know of a male leopard gecko that lays eggs??? Hahaha. I'm pretty sure her mate Tao wont appreciate you looking up her skirt! Shame shame... just kiddin.
No reason to jump all over Cooper he just dsaid he wanted a pet that's active a lot (though you are right about not getting Geckos at first glance)
Cooper I'd suggest looking into looking into getting a Crested there one of the easier Geckos but they're fun to watch and like to jump around at nigh. Just make sure you do your research first
OK copper2225 u don't get a pet just because it's all interesting at first glance and then just get rid of it when it gets "boring". U get a pet because u want to take care of it for the rest of it's life and know that u will still find it interesting 10 years from now. copper2225 it's people like u that make me sick u get pets just for looks and they're all cute then they grow to big or get boring and u just abandon it. that is animal abuse and u should never b allowed to have another pet.
My girlfriends Gecko passed away a few months ago and she gave me all her stuff, so I went out and bought 2 snakes which escaped and are now living amongst me and my room...(I find their shedding all the time xD) and now I have a leo in the tank just like her old one...except albino :O I just got him last night :D yay.
My Leo died last night, I woke up at 5:00am at night and looked at the cage. It was if I could sense it. She was dead. I buried her and went to work :( wanted to cry all day. . . Her name was Pieces. Anyhow, Clocks is the song I listened to while I was in a mess about her death. . . 7 years we shared together. . .
I'm really sorry about the loss of Pieces. It takes a long time to heal after losing a pet. I bet it was a good 7 years. It will get better over time.
Thanks, it was a good 7 years. It's gotten a bit better. When you have something for so long, it's hard to believe that in one instance it can be gone for good. Anyhow, you got a cute gecko!
Does she look underfed to you?? I'm sorry but she gets a wide variety of foods and this is only something I do with her on occasion. Read some previous posts... her tail being nice and fat says it all.
I will reply to this one more time and that is all. Maya is not on sand anymore. Until people can produce a sand for sale that is healthy and safe for reptiles, I will not use it.
don't worry, sand aint the problem at all. The only thing you got to make sure of is that the tank is a save place for the animal. which means don't let him jump all the time and no sharp objects and of course not too deep water since these animals can drown then. about 1cm deep is enough. water is not only used by drinking but also shedding of it's skin, so wide it can be about half the size of the animal up to full size
I would suggest adding more hides to your enclosure. Leopard Geckos need a minimum of 3 hides a dry/warm hide a dry/cool hide and a warm/moist hide. Leopard Geckos can become stressed without hiding places.
thats pretty neat. my albino likes to get up on her drift wood and jump at the cage lid. shes quite the drama queen. i use a red light with a combination of basking during the day then just the red at night. keeps it nice and warm.
i no i got an African fat tailed gecko basically the same thing n i have him in a 40 gallon with 5 hiding places n still loads of room 4 him to play in
My leo jumps as well, only for crickets though. It's so weird, I've got a kind of Styrofoam rock wall on one side of the cage, and she jumps up off a branch onto it and sticks there. She has gotten into the habit of crawling up and down the wall, too.
My gecko has actually jumped 6+ inches before and I woke up today and it is nowhere to be found in it's cage. I can't find her anywhere in my room or any other room upstairs. I don't know what to do. :( I have 2 cats by the way. Going to be posting another video trying to figure out what happened.
very healthy, very nice gecko. Great big fat tail. very simple setup makes it easier on the geckos. You should feed Maya a mixture of mealworms, crickets and silkworms. Silkworms are very nutritious and geckos love the taste.
Mealworms are very healthy. That eating through a stomach is complete BS, mealworms contain just as much nutrients as crickets, they just don't move as much. Sand is only bad for juvies, although paper towel, tile, or carpet is better.
That's a pretty cool trick your leo can do, and it looks nice and healthy too, nice fat tail!
lol that is sweet, but its obvious she'll jump if your hovering food over her lol, mine tried to jump to get something that was on top of her tank once and hit her head bless, yours seems really fat (not in a horrible way lol, has she lost her original tail?)
ok cool, thanks for replying anyway, have you had any that have lost their tail? im really worried about mine losing hers, :( she seems so fragile and delicate.
None of mine have lost their tails before. But I have cared for some that have been mistreated that had lost their tails and they all grew back to look almost the same. They dont quite grow back looking the way they did before. Just dont pinch the tail and you shouldnt have any problems ;o)
I have to disagree with this one. You might be thinking of superworms, but mealworms are very healthy. I have never heard of a mealworm eating through the stomach of a leo. Ron Tremper uses them with his leos and he is a very well know leopard gecko breeder.
Alunda01 is wrong. Pine and cedar shavings cause toxic reactions in reptiles, hardwood chips shredd thier intestines, gravel can cause gastric blockage, corn cob and crushed walnut shells will cut up thier mouths/insides, kitty litter is designed to clump when wet, so that will cause iimpaction, potting soil has pesticides and firtilizer in it and perlite can be toxic I think, and nobody has studied the long-term affects of using printed newspaper. Calcium sand encourages ingestion, wich is bad.
hey i bought 2 leopard geckos 2 days ago and the 1 is like normal healthy but the oter 1 seems somewhat depressed/emo lol. . . what would b the cause of this?? n e sudjestions/comments n e thing???i need some help im a first time owner of n e kind of reptile
hey all i wanted to ask a question maybe someone can help answer i heard sand is bad for leopard geckos but was wandering what about calcium sand cause aparentley this is a digestable sand substance used for reptiles.
avoid silica, recommended are Cedar, pine or other wood shavings, Hardwood chips, Gravel, Crushed corn cob, Crushed walnut shells, Kitty litter, Bark chips, Sawdust, Potting soil with perlite (little white balls), or avoid it all together with newspaper. calcium should be fine, though i'd put it in a seperate container so they can reach it as they need.
you fucking retard dont tell people to use a certain bedding when the kind you recomended will kill there animal all of the things you named suck and dangerous besides paper and calci sand.
NOOOO! Not cedar! They arent Hamsters. Before I even got a leopard gecko I read everywhere i looked that cedar WILL kill them. Sands specifically for leopard geckos are easy to come by and run for about $7 a bag.
I completely agree with this as well. It's only really good to use in dog beds to help keep mites and other bugs away. Cedar causes too many problems with the respiratory systems in small, fragile pets.
hey please don't use any sort of sand, ignore every stupid person that says a substrate is ok, the only safe and non hazadous flooring is kitchen towel believe it or not. My gecko luna is fine on that, plus its more hygienic when needing remove waste, please dont use anything other than this
Sand is VERY bad for leopard geckos because they pick up a bit of it when they eat and they become impacted.Calcium sand is EVEN WORSE this is because it is a little jagged and no matter what pet stores want you to think it is NOT digestible. The geckos are also encouraged to eat the sand because ofthe calcium which is not good. What Alunda01 said is wrong. Everything he/she listed is not good for the same reasons. The best is tiles, reptile carpet, or just paper towels.
Sand can cause impaction, but shouldn't if its fine enougth (only put adults on sand though). Calcium sand doesn't but they may actualy eat it. Some people clain you should use reptile carpet, but then other people say they can get caught on the fibres. The only 100% safe substrate is newspaper or kitchen towl, but if you want a realistic looking substrate, read books or go on a forum and read about peoples experiances etc. then you can decide which you feel is safest for your lizard.
I have leopard geckos and both sand and calcium sand can be bad for them! The best substates are papertowel and reptile carpet. I got this info from many websites and the local reptile breeder. Hope I helped
let me give you a better answer than sand is stupid. calci sand is only safe for larger reptiles. a gecko's digestive system is far too sensitive for sand.
i though that geckos regrew there tail when it fell off and when it regrew it looked like that
igot it from the gecko book i got for my gecko

It depends on how skinny. If it's like extremely thin, to the point of almost seeing bone, take it to a vet pronto. If it still has fat content, you might want to try feeding more frequently or by gut-loading crickets or mealworms before you feed it to your gecko. I occasionally give wax worms to my geckos as treats.

NOOOO! Not cedar! They arent Hamsters. Before I even got a leopard gecko I read everywhere i looked that cedar WILL kill them. Sands specifically for leopard geckos are easy to come by and run for about $7 a bag.

Cedar is bad for Hamsters too.

The best is tiles, reptile carpet, or just paper towels.

yah its good for them,i use it.
