Increasing the distance electricity can travel from the power plant (so a wind farm or nuke plant can supply power to far away cities), modernizing the electrical grid to decrease lose of power, and prevent blackouts. This sounds like a sensible thing to do.
I think 30 years from now a "smart grid" will seem just as fundamental to our country as our interstate highway system. People are often suspicious about Gov programs, but we need it and im sure they will hire someone to do it.
