If I ever meet the two people that disliked this video, I'm gonna give them a bass and ask them to try playing this. Seriously, this looks hard and it's ten times harder than it looks.
Seriously, I understand some bassists are better than others, but there isn't a single other bassist in the world that can play like Victor.
@JohnFHebert I mean Michael Manring developed lots of techniques for bass solo playing. Perhaps he did not create them all (he was actually one of Jaco Pastorius' pupils), but he certainly did develop all that 'stuff' incredibly and amazingly.
@JohnsLazy Ive only seen one bassist in my opinion who is better than Wooten in terms of technicality, and that is Gianni Serino, however victor wooten definately takes the crown as the best mainstream bassist.
It's funny that this song is all about a pocket when, over the course of the tune, he speeds up roughly 20bpm. That's alright with me though. It grooves way more at the higher tempo, especially with the backing vocals.
There are sections of this song that make you think. Where the heck does he come up with this, and HOW did he pull it off.. What an amazing bassist. Thanks for posting!!
There's only one thing worng with this song....it only has 14,187 views. and modern day "talent" has 272,154,452 views (around that for that whiny teenage trying to get famous by having no balls). The world is fucked. Thanks to Vai , Satriani and Victor for showing us that There IS still kick ass talent that just blows ur mind out there.
I listen to this song and I remeber when I went to the bus station one morning with may bass... it was snowing... that was wonderful. Then this music really got me... thank you Wooten!!!

weird, this song is about pocket and its seems like he is rasing the tempo
Tzachi076S 9 months ago
@Tzachi076S Yes, I agree. Apparently you see the painful irony in Victor Wooten naming a composition, "U Can't Hold No Groove."

You should check out Michael Manring's albums. He was the first bassist to do this kind of stuff. He is, indeed, a very talented musician as well.
Alzpheer 11 months ago
@Alzpheer what do you mean 1st bassist to do this kind of stuff?
JohnFHebert 10 months ago
@JohnFHebert I mean Michael Manring developed lots of techniques for bass solo playing. Perhaps he did not create them all (he was actually one of Jaco Pastorius' pupils), but he certainly did develop all that 'stuff' incredibly and amazingly.

@Alzpheer so you're saying he invented slap bass? riiiight.

@blarg4847 No, that technique was obviously first seen on the great Larry Graham.
