aw, its growling for a reason! If it doesnt like the toy, then dont put the toy near it =3 It reminds me of my parakeet. I have this spray bottle with bath stuff in it to clean him, but when I pick it up he goes crazy!
my parrot does the same thing, so i bathe her in the shower, i guess they don't like things pointed at them, but she is afraid of everything or she wants to fight then she runs and then she struts.
In my experience african greys don't just growl when they want to, let alone practice growling. They do it only when they feel genuinely threatened. I could be wrong, but I think the squeeky toy really scares your bird.
your'e right, it could feel threatened, maybe because of the squeaky noise?? hmmmm...... iv'e heard of birds who adore squeakies, i guess it is probaly the noise.... or the color maybe...............
Sorry it worried all of you. She just does that when she sees something new that she wants to touch but is not sure about it. She took it from me a few seconds later and wouldn't give it back. ;-) I'll try to find that video for you. I changed the comment for the video so everyone else would know she's not being tortured. LOL!
She has full flight so if she was too scared she would have flown off my arm. She was more interested in it than scared and even took it from me and kept it after that.
Growling was her way of saying keep away. She was scared of it but so curious about it she just couldn't resist touching it while she growled at it. ;-) She later took it from me and wouldn't give it back. She had fun picking it to pieces. :-D
Oh, all Greys do it? I was just wondering if it hurt their throats to imitate a growl. I wonder exactly how they produce the sounds...

Haha..my girl does the same thing. She's terrified of new toys. If one is put in her cage, she sits at the bottom and growls at it.

Hey, that means the bird is scared. It's really mean to intentionally make them growl. Please don't make him scared like that.
