...after the acrimonious schizm left by Waters' departure of the band in 1985 coupled with the legal morass that ensued, Gilmour and the surrounding members managed to reassemble to create one of the NEW PF's most enduring anthems, returning to the mysticism of 1975's "Wish You Were Here". The phoenix had definitely risen from the ashes...
Says it all really. If only people would really, really listen then maybe, just maybe, songs like this would really make a huge difference to this world. Lee
This song is a monument ....this performance is a real english cathedral... i really respect Jimi Hendrix... but i've got to admit that ...he is not the best out here... he was maybe the best until he died (it's always subjective)... but he was not out here long enough... Captain Page, tha God Clapton, Mr Townshend, Jeffy Beck, and euh...Gilmour are really at the same level ... because they survived... ( can i say Michael Schenker, the wizzard Blackmore and Mick Taylor as well ? ... )

true , this performance sounds better than the studio recording, it is like they are trying to tell the other bands " this is how you should sound live" . plus Dave's accuracy and intelligent creativity make you feel like it is really a jam session or a rehearse session not this band that is trying to play the songs note for note. as a guitarist i find that improvising in jam sessions should be how it is playedon stage without polishing the song and master record it..it should let it flow .
Amazing.. I have an audience audio bootleg from the night before this performance, August 19th ( this was filmed on the 20th ) & I actually think it's even better than this version, the solo is mesmerising.. But this version is stunning as well..

Pink Floyd are without a doubt THE best band there is and ever has been and ever will be.
One of the most profound songs, post-Waters era. The New Floyd did belt out a few gems which measure up to the Class of Pink Floyd. What a soothing/controlled voice Gilmour has!
LOL the roger v david feud is over get over it. Most real true fans who respect David Richard and Nick accept this era of Pink Floyd and regard this song as a true floyd classic.
después de los beatles éste debe ser el mejor grupo del mundo. la canción expresa tanto sentimiento. dios los bendiga, de todos modos syd barrett y richard wright los están cuidando desde el cielo.
Many bands sounds shit live, but Pink Floyd often sounds better live than their already good studio recordings, like this video masterfully shows. How on earth is that possible...
And lets face it guys, there was a lot of crap back on the radio then too!
Still, it's rare that you get the depth of music nowadays that was being produced by groups like Pink Floyd, Genesis, Yes and their solo proponents...
I know people that are almost reaching 70 that like to listen to PINK FLOYD (with capitals, like it should be), I'm 40 and I liked PINK FLOYD since I was 9 years old (The Wall) and I know a lot of young kids out there ( 10 to 18 years old) that also listen to PINK FLOYD.......so their music will never die !!!

@rafaelymg so tenho 25 mas isto toca-me na espinha e tenho pena que a minha geraçao se esteja a cagar pa tudo. estes homens do rock vao-me marcar claramente.
Brilliant song by probably the closest to perfection any live band will ever get. Saw them on this tour and have the VHS of it. My only complaint, why oh why has this not been released on DVD and will it ever be released ? Does anyone know ?
@floydspeedwho ...im waiting to get this on dvd as well , my vhs tape starting to wear out.... this song with Durga McBroom & the girls is pretty much As Good AS IT GETS.
@floydspeedwho According to the band there are no plans to release this on DVD. They preferred/chose to put Pulse on DVD instead of Delicate Sound of Thunder. If they were ever to come out with a Blu Ray though it would have to be this concert. Pulse was shot on SD video cameras whereas Delicate sound was filmed. This would look fantastic in High def.
@jaruel37 Thanks for answering my question. Such a shame as like JIMONBEACH my VHS tape has all but given up the ghost. While a lot of people consider the Pulse shows to be the greatest live shows ever ( which they probably are ) i feel the DSOT shows more than merit DVD. Oh well, guess i`ll have to buy the tape again. Twenty pounds is not a lot for a concert of this quality.
I remember watching this whole concert over and over as a young teen with my brother. HBO used to play it all the time too and whenever it was on, there we'd be. In fact I still have my original double disc set.
Check out my cover of this song. This is by far my favorite song along with "go straight to hell boy" by the clash. Search: chris Petronelis. It kinda sucks cause of bad audio but I recorded it in 1997 or '98. Not sure. Anyway check it out and my other song too, its an original and better than justin beibers best song. Thanks!
which irish melody is this based off of? i've been told it's an exact replication of an old folk melody--it does not sound like "the water is wide," that I know of.
nobody cant feel what i feel right now, hearing this song and felling the wind touch my face from my window...i'm felling so peacefull, for a moment i forgot all my life and just enjoy it...
I remember listening to this "back in the day"...in the 80's...when life seemed a lot simpler for me...I was "in a mood" this morning about 2am and for some reason clicked on this...I've been listening to it repeatedly since...it's now 115pm...yes, they don;t make bands like this anymore...too fuckin bad, too LOL
I SAW 13 ASSHOLES WICH DON´T LIKE THIS VIDEO,MAN THOSE MINDS ARE LIKE THE SONG SAYS, THEY ARE COMFORTABLY NUMB AND WHAT A HELL THEY ARE DOING WASTE THE TIME SEEING VIDEOS ,FUCK OFF.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This sounds like a Michael Jackson song. Pink Floyd without Roger Waters is not Pink Floyd. This was nothing more than a Gilmour Solo album/tour with Mason & Wright as windowdressing.
Radio KAOS is way better than this pop pseudo-floyd.
@manchestercitizen Oh yeah - It's obvious you REALLY know what you're speaking about.........remember ---- its better to let people think you're a prick - dont open your mouth and prove it!!!
@manchestercitizen Who said I was angry? I was trying to be helpful to an individual of lesser intelligence, a sharing of the wealth ,if you will. You should have been grateful. Kisses!
@TheMercifullOne man... you're a fanatical... personally i never do that... because ...mmmhhh even my favourite songs i just play them once in a while... for me when i taste it rarely i'm even more impress by it...nearly like the first day i discovered it...
but well...i'm into diversity... i've got the "chance" to be "fan" of surely more than 60 bands or solo...
If you're just into 1 band and nearly never listen to other stuff the music became naturally more cyclical...and fanatical :p
I wish i had been in this concert. Such a song, such a melody. So much Pink Floyd in this. Amazing. Just... The best band in the history of mankind. I wish, i wish......
Amazing song from an amazing band! No one can play guitarsolos like Gilmour. The music that´s being made today can´t even compare to Pink Floyd! I still feel bad that I didn´t go to see them when they visited Norway in 94

Sorry, there are people that buy and listen to even vinyl records....don't judge everyone by what you are doing..
who ever had a first VINYL album of PF, knows what is like...I still have my one of the first ones CD's and is "Dark side of the moon"...bought 25 years ago...
@3510211 Thank you! That was VERY well said. I would say that, depending upon your tastes, there are a few "new" albums/musicians that are worth listening to. Sunny Day Real Estate's "The Rising Tide" may be 11 years old but is a modern day classic. Glen Phillips from Toad the wet Sprocket consistently releases fantastic records, some of which are little more than Glen singing and playing his guitar.
@3510211 its still out there. My roommate in college is a guy who loves music to no end. he listens to 3 hour deluxe editions of albums from start to end. Im kind of like that. the last album i have listend to through and through was alter bridge's ab3 which is my favorite album. just came out a couple months ago. check it out.
@3510211 Porcupine Tree "Stupid Dream", "In Absentia", and another group "Riverside" are all those old-style listen-beginning-to-end bands. Worth a listen since PF isn't working anymore.
@3510211 That seems a bit of an unfair generalization. I assume you're the only one in the world who understands and "gets" real music? Or is it just a generational thing? I seem to see posts just like yours on ALOT of 70's era music videos, always saying "That's when music was 'real', not the crap on the radio today". There actually is good music happening today, but it takes a little more effort to find it. Don't give up!
As a youth in todays society i must agree with most of the comments that our music today isn't what it was decades ago (granted a select few bands,) but that is why this special. No one could ever reproduce it, or cover it, and have a sound so pure. It would have been amazing to see these shows and feel the goose bumps in the crowd instead of my room. Thank you for the post and long live Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, and many, many more.
The thing I love about David Gilmour is that he looks like an uncle at a wedding who's asked to get up on stage and play a bit - and NO ONE can TOUCH him. That whole solo at the end is piss-easy, technically, but you will never replicate it. Didn't the producer of The Wall say that you could give him a ukelele and he would make it sound like a Stradivarius? Bang on ;-)
@MrPiratebird I too tend to live in the past when it comes to music. Don't get me wrong, I like some modern bands like Tool, Dave Matthews Band, My Morning Jacket, Vampire Weekend, the Chili Peppers, but my favorite bands are bands like Rush, Yes, Jimi Hendrix Exp., Led Zeppelin, Metallica (not that there in the past), Beatles, Elton, Billy, etc. My brother gives me a hard time cuz all I listen to is old stuff. Meanwhile all he buys is indie shit. I like some of it. It's just not the same.
Aaaah, this is the tune that got me all about pink floyd one day in middle school hearing it on the radio...... 15 years later 40+ bootlegs, a red strat of my own and a pink floyd tatt later still dig this one. Oh the tone, man not only have bands today completely derived from playing guitar they do not even care if it sounds like a beaten down kazoo. Long live guys like buchanan and may and gilmour whos tone was just stellar
@MrPiratebird Thanks for letting me know. I just assumed it wasn't available on DVD because I've never seen it in stores. I'll try to order it somewhere.
@drewper73 No worries....I'm from the land downunder (Australia) my original copy was on video, lent it to a friend and never got it back ...then found it was out on DVD and got a copy about 4 years ago.
I don't wish to sound like someone who is living in the past but the quality of music from bands and musicians such as Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, Led Zepplin, Springsteen, Van Morrison, Peter Gabriel etc will never ever be replicated.......
I pray that whatever you believe in you all will see that the turning away is not the way....No more turning away from the weak and the weary...Don't accept what is happening no more, be the solution...Not the problem!!!!!
I remember this song playing on plane's radio station when I flew from DC to London with my fiancee' almost a year ago. I thought it was really odd because it's not a song you hear a lot of on the radio anymore. And I know the song has such a way more deeper meaning ,but I remember the lyrics really standing out with the lines:"Light is changing to shadow" and "On the wings of the night, As the daytime is stirring" because it was an over night . I remember feeling at complete peace right then
Que impresionante, Pink Floyd a morir, GRACIAS POR SU MUSICA, ETERNAMENTE AGRADECIDO.-

This sounds like a Michael Jackson song. Pink Floyd without Roger Waters is not Pink Floyd. This was nothing more than a Gilmour Solo album/tour with Mason & Wright as windowdressing.
Radio KAOS is way better than this pop pseudo-floyd.

Well I think they found eachother again in the Division Bell album wich is a great album to end Pink Floyd.
Just the Waters feeling is the last piece that is missed in there.

Sorry, there are people that buy and listen to even vinyl records....don't judge everyone by what you are doing..
who ever had a first VINYL album of PF, knows what is like...I still have my one of the first ones CD's and is "Dark side of the moon"...bought 25 years ago...
wrobdzej 11 months ago
@3510211 Thank you! That was VERY well said. I would say that, depending upon your tastes, there are a few "new" albums/musicians that are worth listening to. Sunny Day Real Estate's "The Rising Tide" may be 11 years old but is a modern day classic. Glen Phillips from Toad the wet Sprocket consistently releases fantastic records, some of which are little more than Glen singing and playing his guitar.
artiegohome 11 months ago
@3510211 its still out there. My roommate in college is a guy who loves music to no end. he listens to 3 hour deluxe editions of albums from start to end. Im kind of like that. the last album i have listend to through and through was alter bridge's ab3 which is my favorite album. just came out a couple months ago. check it out.
Thealterbridger 11 months ago
@3510211 Porcupine Tree "Stupid Dream", "In Absentia", and another group "Riverside" are all those old-style listen-beginning-to-end bands. Worth a listen since PF isn't working anymore.
aliensporebomb 11 months ago
@3510211 That seems a bit of an unfair generalization. I assume you're the only one in the world who understands and "gets" real music? Or is it just a generational thing? I seem to see posts just like yours on ALOT of 70's era music videos, always saying "That's when music was 'real', not the crap on the radio today". There actually is good music happening today, but it takes a little more effort to find it. Don't give up!
stratboy59 11 months ago
As a youth in todays society i must agree with most of the comments that our music today isn't what it was decades ago (granted a select few bands,) but that is why this special. No one could ever reproduce it, or cover it, and have a sound so pure. It would have been amazing to see these shows and feel the goose bumps in the crowd instead of my room. Thank you for the post and long live Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, and many, many more.
TheFonzy41 1 year ago
The thing I love about David Gilmour is that he looks like an uncle at a wedding who's asked to get up on stage and play a bit - and NO ONE can TOUCH him. That whole solo at the end is piss-easy, technically, but you will never replicate it. Didn't the producer of The Wall say that you could give him a ukelele and he would make it sound like a Stradivarius? Bang on ;-)
Axpoet 1 year ago

I'll try to order it somewhere.
drewper73 1 year ago
@drewper73 No worries....I'm from the land downunder (Australia) my original copy was on video, lent it to a friend and never got it back ...then found it was out on DVD and got a copy about 4 years ago.
I don't wish to sound like someone who is living in the past but the quality of music from bands and musicians such as Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, Led Zepplin, Springsteen, Van Morrison, Peter Gabriel etc will never ever be replicated.......
