i seen BOC at the las vegas convention center in '75 -- wow, just a kid then, the trick lazor beam thing goin on,: thinking about it now just etc. etc.& little river band opening for them *****COOOOL!!
hp lovecraft?... steampunk?.. what up with the lp cover?.. how bout the secret beach boys tribute tucked away in the middle of biker gang fight anthem "Golden Age?" can't believe somebody paid for them to record this stuff but glad they did.
There's no categorizing these guys-they just wrote great songs-didn't matter what style. You could never pigeonhole them- Rolling Stone once called them The Fleetwood Mac of Heavy Metal. It's a pretty good assessment.
I think she was murdered. All of B.O.C. songs end up in murder in one way or another. By the way the name Blue oyster cult means sex with the dead. The body turns blue after death. And what part of the female body looks like an oyster. Don't you think that this cult has been around for hundreds of years?
such an awesome song. My friends and i played this in the 80 at sylmar high school . David Snow ' Angelo Martinez ' Levi Campos and me David Nelson. We played a lot of B.O.C. I miss those my Friends.
I just e-mailed Albert a short time ago and recommended he, Joe and Denny add this tune to their set. Their group is called Blue Coupe. they sound great!
@uberrandomperson hey seriously man i have tried to figure this out for a long time now but how the hell do u get those 2 dots above that damn O grrrr another great song by B...(2dotsaboveO)C!!!
Brilliant song! I love all of the BOC songs where Al sings. This and Death Valley Nights are to of my fave BOC songs, and both on the same record! Did you ever notice the play on words in this song? "Fireworks like a charm" or is it Fire WORKS like a charm"??
I thought this was their most commercial appealing album (whatever that means), I think most BOC fans think this album was a "sellout" or at least in was in 1977 compared to their previous works!
They got the balance of radio friendly and fan pleasing material about right on Spectres. That one that really went too far with the commercial appealing truly sellout material was 'Mirrors'.
It has to rank as their masterpiece. My choice for #2 would not be Agents but Secret Treaties. No other album at that time sounds anything like it. This song is sung, of course, by drummer Albert Bouchard who was one of the best at what he did. I enjoyed his court jester-like vocals (lead and backup) as much as his drumming.
This is a hard song to find on youtube, its awesome just hard to find. and they dont play it anymore and they dont put it on CD. If they dont want a song heard, BOC can hide it well
To stickylish. I will save my children from rap, man!! I couldn't agree more with you, buddy! And BÖC is so damn awesome, love all of their albums and they have inspired me and the music I make. Please new bands. Keep make music like this!
cuttlefisch, thanks for your post. dead on with your opinion. i have loved this song , along with older boc for years. death valley nights, this aint the summer , keep on going. KEEP ON ROCKIN!!!
I could not agree with you more - The whole track is beautiful. The lovely background vocals by Buck and Joe; the dual lead guitar by Buck and Allen - everything is PERFECT. Sounds like Buck is using that '72 3/4 Les Paul Dlx of his - he uses it on "Nosferatu" too.
@stickylish 24 years after its release, all three of my kids, ages 18, 11, and 7, rate this their favorite album of all time. Their MP3 players are full of BÖC songs from my collection and my oldest has inherited all my BÖC vinyl. She is introducing a whole new group to the awesomeness that is BÖC.
@stickylish I'm glad i found this band. I'm nowhere near the right age for kids yet but I'm sure as hell making them listen to this, and the Fire Of Unknown Origin album, everyday.
@thesemenincident Isn't the mix spectacular? The rhythm and lead guitars interlock and reinforce one another with the beauty and precision of the masonry at Maccu Piccu...
Albert Bouchard wrote this song derived from poems he used to write to a girl who was very uptight and he was wanting to get to loosen up a bit. Anyways I think this song is about sex magik and orgasms.
this one or death valley nights best songs for sure!!! and this is most definitely the best album!!! my girlfriend and i think the song is about a girl committing suicide to get away from an abusive boyfriend....
hmmm. Ive always thought of this song like this. A man who has put a spell on a woman he wants very much, But she doesnt want him. After awhile the spell is beginning to fade away. So He ends up killing her in her sleep, Then himself.
SMOKE 1 SIT BACK AND ENJOY!

Has someone noticed that the riff in the intro sounds just like a riff from Metalicas "The Day that never comes" (its a song from the new album) ...
I guess they stole it.
1darkmesiah1 2 years ago
BOC has had a good influence on MetallicA. The In The Presence Of Another World's intro is similar to Fade to Black. Two great bands...
Neither band stole anything. They're just both great.

@The1Black5Wolf3
One of Metallicas first songs was a cover of BOC's Astronomy.
Metallica was inspired a lot by BOC. Doesn't mean they stole anything.
