No its just too simple to say it was just for the money! Like many other Musical legends, he was starting to become a power rival to tptb . The system couldn't afford to let this force of nature grow anymore. They tried all they could to destroy him and in the end may have killed him physically. But his death will only make him 1000x MORE POWERFUL. The 'greedy ones' may get the money.
