i remember the archie reruns in the early 70's. i barely remember archie's funhouse. i was so young then. i was only 5 mos when the show debuted the 1st time. i remember this intro from a rerun in the mid 70's. i loved sabrina and the groovy ghoulies too. they used to come on in memphis,tn early in the morning on CBS.
Sadly, Dallas McKennon, who played the voice of Archie, Hot Dog, Mr. Weatherbee, Mr. Lodge and Pop Tate, passed away last Tuesday at age 89, just 5 days short of 90. He also worked on other Filmation produced shows such as The Hadry Boys, Sabrina The Teenage Witch, Groovie Goolies, Archie's Funhouse, Archie's TV Funnies and even made a guest appearance on Space Academy. He will be greatly missed.
He was more presitiously and fortunately featured in Disney cartoons, a few WB shorts, Art Clokery, Sam Singer, evne a few Hanna-Barbera shorts, as wlel as Walter Lantz. Incidentally, what was with Veronice and Reggie as members of the band [analogus to Alexandra and Sebastian as POussycat members ] without even being prima donnas? :)
Well in the new comic. Archie chooses and proposes to VERONICA! But I think in the end of the new series he will eventually end up with betty cause more ppl want Archie to end up with Betty.
Gossip Girl is kind of today's version of the Archie comics, doncha think? And it's too bad the cartoons didn't have all of Veronica's sexy outfits, with her miniskirts and high heels. Good thing I was 6 years old in 1968 and didn't notice.
BREAKING NEWS: The Archie Show is coming to DVD on July 31! That's right! The complete series is coming to DVD and will be distributed by Genius Media (as opposed to BCI Eclipse and Entertainment Rights since Archie Comics owns the copyrights to the characters). Man, I can't wait until it comes out!
Although I've read Entertainment Rights still holds the rights to the cartoon anyway so there might be a chance the ER logo will be on the box for these DVD's anyway.
Filmation's style of animation is sooo much better than the stuff they put out nowadays! Even the younger Archie gang in the early to mid 80's looked bad.
Used to see it every Saturday Morning with a bowl of Sugar Pops! Great stuff!
Kirshner really worked hard on this so the music would be Top 40 material. The Archies were his "I'll show you" to Columbia for being given the boot from The Monkees. The Monkees wanted to play on the records Don said no. Columbia stuck with The Monkees and fired him.
Great stuff! That's Ron Dante singing all the vocals on the theme (he later became Barry Manilow's record producer). Don Kirschner produced all The Archies recordings and many of their songs were written by famed Brill Building-era composer Jeff Barry (including their most-famous hit "Sugar Sugar").
The song's pretty catchy, my Mom used to sing it all the time for reasons I forget. We rented 1 of the dvds from blockbuster. I only saw 2 of the 5 episodes included.
