The arcade version had 3D backgrounds. You can find this version in tekken 5. This was one of the best tekkens in my opinion. Tekken Tag, 3 and 2 were the best.

@Thekingpac2014 Top 5? Hard to say. Definites would have to be Tekken 3, Street Alpha 2 and 3 and Mortal Kombat Trilogy. I played many interesting fighting games on the psx, but very few had a genuinely well built fighting system. SFEXPlusAlpha was good, as was Marvel Super Heroes. Rival Schools, King of Fighters 98 deserve mentioning. I know there are a few more slipping my recollection. I'd have to think before coming to a top 5 selection. Yours?

@Blitzbok MK trilogy was my one of my favorite games back in the day and was the first fighting game i ever had(for the N64 i got it in '97)as a kid i didn't know how to play but as i grew up i owned people in that game for real.Alpha 2 and 3 i don't have yet SFA2 has been there on the PS3 network sense July,and SFA3 sense last week,and T3 is not there but i have King of Fighters '99 but i heard '94,'96,and '98 are classics.My top 5,#1T3.#2MKT,#3KIGold,#4SF2,#5­VF4 thats mine.

I still think this game looks pretty great, for 1998. In fact, every Tekken holds up well, except maybe the first. There is no survival mode, team battle, theatre mode, etc, that we're now used to, in the first. And it's rather difficult to finish the game with no continues, to unlock the sub bosses in Tekken 1.

@TheAdam159 The pixels give it character. I know the new generation, for the most part, would disagree with that, but the simply do not understand artistry, texture or anything to be honest. Most of these old games would lose their appeal were they to have their visuals 'updated'. Cleaning up a few things would be nice though.

@Blitzbok I agree. I find a lot of PS1 games have more character, more heart than newer ones. You use your imagination to paper up the gaps in graphics. I think the art direction for Tekken 3 remains the best in the series. The character models and backgrounds are all great.

@Thekingpac2014 You aren't missing much. T5 is the pinnacle of the series in terms of gameplay though, but T3 comes next. Probably the best all round entry of the series. My only gripe is that it abandoned the ethereal, eastern feel of T2. In many respects T lost it's soul here, and the story did have holes, but it's by no means the worst in that regard. Stay away from T4 and T6, stick to T2, T3 and T5.

@blank21121 Eh....I think a Street Fighter Vs. Dead Or Alive is more plausible. I can't see Ryu doing a fatality, or being fatalitied. I can, however, see Ryu Hayabusa Izuna Drop Ryu off of high platforms, only to be caught off guard by a Shoryuken eventually.

Looking BEYOND the other reasons why DOA is noted, it's actually a pretty decent fighting game. However, it isn't like your traditional fighter in that its combat almost solely revolves around countering and environmental damage.
