Firing a revolver can be done quicker than firing a semiautomatic with a magazine for the simple reason that the shooter has to wait around for the semiautomatic to cycle and chamber the next round. A revolver can be "helped along" by a quick hand. Revolvers are faster than semiautomatics for the first 6 rounds. After than "your mileage may vary".
