  • Damn cool.

  • Robert Plant <3

  • Pretty amazing when you have T-Bone Burnett backing up and nobody even notices.

  • I want to hear her do the whole song Matty Groves. I agree less "Mood".

  • Outstanding!!!!

  • this made my heart stop a little

  • I don't think Alison Krauss could be any more beautiful.

  • I don't think Alison Krauss could get any more gorgeous. <3

  • Krauss is the star

  • Loved it...thanks.. ;-)

  • Alison Krauss . Are in love with Robert Plant. Because I am in Love with you. I love you Alison. You rock.

  • Allison did a fantastic job on Matty Groves here; briliant

  • And don't anyone get me wrong, their album is wonderful and I enjoy Allison Krause a great deal. With Plant's remarkable voice and ability their paring was a great idea. But Plant is many times the superstar compared to Allison Krause. I am glad that he did this with her, proving what a remarkable range and ability he has always had.

  • She taught him harmony, but she can't marry him. I saw her first.

  • @taylor6087 Actually, Plant has been a great singer since the 60s. In the pre-Led Zeppelin band, Band of Joy, he was already singing harmonies and did so with himself and others like Sandy Denny of Fairport Convention long ago. Seems that many posters know Allison Krause, but not Robert Plant.

  • @deaddoc You are right that he has been a fantastic vocalist even before Zeppelin....but in his own words he never knew how to sing harmony until Allison taught him. Prior to that he just sang with others. There is a difference. Needless to say they both are very talented and the tops at what they do.

  • @taylor6087 If you knew their full repetoire, you' d know that Plant has harmonized in the past. He was doing it way back in the 60s with Band of Joy. I know what harmonizing is..... studied music and have been recorded - once upon a time.

I think that Plant was as he usually has been for a long time, giving credit and downplaying himself. He can afford to be generous. Not to take away from Allison Krause or the wonderful singing they do together.

  • just lovely....cant wait for Plants new album out soon.

  • ... milking it ... stick with Fairport Convention's version ...

  • @surreal12 I agree. Alison's voice sounds nice here but this is FAR from an an improvement!

  • Beautiful Recording Thanks!

  • I just realized that Led Zeppelin was a Celtic Rock band...thanks

  • @bpfsears1 Some Zep songs were very folkish, especially on that third and fourth album. But Page also invented riffs based on Middle Eastern music. Check out the 1994 album (and dvd) "Unledded."

But Matty Groves was first done (as a traditional song( by the first British electric folk-rock band Fairport Convention. Sandy Denny was and still is a well loved singer with the most incredible voice. She could sing subtle like Allison, but then show power that Allison does not have.

  • bob gibson did a great version of mattiie groves... solo and with bob camp

  • this is almost TOO awesome

  • GREAT harmony!!! Fiddle just makes the song!!!!!!

They should get MARRIED..... have kids and their voices would be the best thing to happen to music in 100 years :)

  • @CheapSushi You ought to hear Dave Swarbrick's fiddle on the original Fairport Convention version where Sandy Denny sings and Richard Thompson plays electric guitar. No comparison...

  • @CheapSushi Heh, heh, I wouldn't be at all surprised if several sperm banks are stocked with Plants' dna. But your cute idea is a good compliment to both.

  • Who the Fuck made you the All Knowing Critic God?. These are both incredible ARTISTS..This is freakin' more ART than even MUSIC!. You make it sound like Plant was singing this with the Jonas Brothers OR Mylie Cyrus. This is a PERFECT compilation sound..Out "Fairports" Fairport in my book!...Show's Plant is BETTER than ever!

    Stifle yourself Edith!

  • Calm down, just expressing an opinion...

  • literally eat shit an die!!!!!

  • The most rocking version of Matty Groves was when Maartin Alcock was with Fairport

  • That I agree with...Sorry to have blown a gasket on Allison Krauss and ofcourse she doesn't require any defense from me anyway.

GOD though isn't it great that there are still some passionate ideals concerning music critique.

NO :"Whateva' Man" in this thread.

  • That's true. I just don't like her voice on this very English song, sounds odd to me, and to be honest I'm just a bit annoyed that Plant doesn't really make music that I love any more (not for a long time) when he has made so much that I did love in the past. Johnny Cash could have covered this....

  • I was there that night. It was phenomanol!! What a great show. I have listened to Robert Plant since late 60's all the way to the Honey Drippers, what good music he has made!! And Alison Krause, her voice Boomed at the Fox, it was unbelievable, her voice just bounced off the walls there, it was wonderful. I really enjoyed their show. I'm older now, and for me to stay up that late to go see them on a work night is rare for me. LOL!! Really worth the nightless sleep that night.

  • I've had sleepless nights.......but I can't imagine a nightless sleep..must've been hell!!

  • More Matty and less Mood. Please

  • Kraus does Sandy Denny proud. Matty Groves I think could really rock played a certain way however (not even FC could do that imo). Are there any real rocking versions of Matty Groves?

  • Yes, there are really Rock versions of Matty Groves. Check out Richard Thompson / Dave Swarbrick and Lieg and Lief.

  • Sorry, but I was hoping the original video was still viewable! Not really into this!!!

  • Wow! That actually worked. Outstanding.

  • this song reminds me so much of rush's spirit of radio

  • man sometimes the grass is not greener on the other side!!

  • Yes! Nothing like a good old bit of english folk to get alison krauss actually moving!

(don't get me wrong, I absolutey love her, but she always standsthere with her hands behind her back whilst robert leaps about)

  • LOOK at that Face at 2:11 ......I LOVE HIM!!!!

  • Alisson Krause the perfect picture of Grace and Beauty, teamed with Robert Plant the aging incrediably well Rocker. So much talent on one stage. Life long memories created for those in attendance. Wish I was there.

  • plus jay bellerose, the best drummer ever.

  • The Raising Sand tour was a thing of beauty.

  • Wow ... just wow!

  • Nice to see Fairport Convention version of Matty Groves getting some recognition.

  • Yeah, the only thing missing from this is RT...but at least they got my main man Buddy Miller. He is the rock & foundation of this style of americana music. Well, he & Bill Frisell.

  • Alison Krauss is a gift from God!!!

  • I have that same Danelectro that T-Bone Burnett is playing here.

  • "In the Mood" is the song that got me (more than) barefoot and pregnant. Glad I could share.

  • they are "in love"... blackmore (purple and raimbow) married with candice night ... and Plant and Alison Kraus i think are in love too. look for the Bob`s eyes...love

and it´s his moment... he was "THE VOICE" whem was the LEd Zeppelin singer... after, alone, did good jobs (pictures ad eleven, 82, heaven knows, 88...) after worked with Page again (94) and after "the ZEP reunion at 2007" now he is singing at another way...his own way... be happy!

  • I wish someone would put up Matty Groves in clear brilliance.

  • IN THE MOOD was the song that got me into Robert Plant in the early 80's. I was a Plant fan before I was a Zep fan.......believe it or not!

  • @CWSiler All that means is that you were exposed to his solo stuff first because of your age and then backlogged. I think many fans have done that unless they are an old crank like me.

  • Have this song on YouTube from Bonnaroo, it was an AWESOME show! In the Mood is my fav Robert song from the early 80's. And I love the folkie Mattie Groves with it, just incredible. Your vid is so much closer up, great! Seeing them again in Dallas in one week in a venue like this one, cannot WAIT!!!

  • They sound and look GREAT together.

  • OMG OMG OMG You didn't cut Mattie Groves!!! I love you!!!! <3

  • yo man we had a F***** bet on this song and i so won dat shit

  • thats gangsta BOOOOOOI!!!

  • Thanks for posting! I was there as well and loved every second!
