@ryank8843 i hope your not joking. galaxy class ships have two bridges, the main bridge at the top of the saucer section, and the battle bridge at the top of the engineering section. those two sections can separate, allowing the saucer section with the civilians to get a chance to get away (though the saucer section doesnt have warp drive) like picard used it, or the way i'd use it as a tactical advantage in combat to split an enemy ship's defenses and focus. but picard was probably right.

DS9 messed around with Vash, Lwaxana, Tom Riker, etc., when they should have continued the storylines of Shelby, Capt. Benjamin Maxwell, Lore (joining the Dominion rather than being dismantled), Sela Yar (a great addition to Dominion War Romulan storylines), Captain Tomalok, etc.

Plus the only episode Kurn came in was a shitty one! DS9 = tons of great opportunities lost.

As such day to day operational command and all personnel report to him. This includes any visiting officers. The reason Shelby was given latitiude was because she was a specialist in her field. She needed this "talk" to be reminded that specialist or not there is a chain of command to be followed. Same as modern day navy.
