They need to make an emulator called MAMEHD, so we can play Model 3 games in HQ and with sound. That can be another chance of playing it, if it existed. Love SSGT!
Check out my Facebook page "Bring out Scud Race/Super GT on current generation home systems!". Just search for Scud Race on Facebook and you should find it no probs. If like me you're a massive fan of this game, then become a fan on my site and if enough people sign up maybe the idiots at Sega will take note and finally bring this legendary game out on home systems.
I just got an idea. Take all the Sega arcade racing games, and take every track and make it hi-res 3D, and let the player use every vehicle from all of the games, on all of the tracks.
Too bad Sega won't do that.
But we should petition for a home release of Scud Race.
You are right. The game was never converted to home consoles. However, the game's courses are secretly available in Outrun 2 for the xbox as one continuous track. :) Daytona 2 tracks are also available in that game. It's a shame that Sumo Digital didn't have time to add some of the more complex animations though.
I don't understand Sega released the Daytona USA remake for the Dreamcast and that ran at a pretty good framerate just like the arcades did I'm pretty sure the Dreamcast had more then enough potential to port this game or Daytona USA 2 it did have to be arcade perfect but damn close.
There is a new game that Sega just patented called "Sega Racing Classic" for their new Ringedge board. Sounds like it will probably be produced in the same spirit as games like this and Daytona, Sega Rally etc.
@smhillis I played the game at IAAPA last year and the framerate was worse than the original arcade release, I even think that the Saturn verison ran much more smoother than the arcade re-release. Just stick to playing the arcade version on a emulator.
I agree with those who say that the Dreamcast just didn't have the raw power to run this game faithfully. Note how Scud Race and Daytona USA 2- the most visually stunning Model 3 games- were never ported. We only got a very simplified (graphically) version of Sega Rally 2 with a stuttering frame rate. The PS2 would have had a tough time with the textures and anti-alaising. Unfortunately, it looks like we're just going to have to wait for Model 3 emulation to play this game at home.
@jaymum23 I argee that SR2 looked terrible on the DC, but I reckon that it could've handled a half decent version of Scud Race - Daytona 2001 looked pretty sweet. Just a shame it handled so badly - no matter how much you tweaked the controls.
You're right it could have handled a decent port and maybe I was a bit too harsh in my judgement. But the port would have been compromised. Daytona 2001 was great-looking, but not quite on a Model 3 Step 2 level. Daytona 2 still looks so good today. Imagine if Sega gave Daytona 2 an HD remake like they are with the first game!
Oh god I've been wanting this game on a collection for years! The name I've always thought of for a collection is "Sega Racing Legacy." If Midway can make a retro Arcade compilation of just racing games, then so could SEGA!
I love That game, Its RARE as fuck, SEGA canceled it, WHAT WAS SEGA THINKING?!?

@jaymum23 The PC version of SR2 was excellent. It's rare though.
