This album killed my love for Linkin Park. Now I think they're shit. Sorry, but they're not the great nu-metal band they used to be. I don't even care about them anymore. I still like RHCP, Korn, Deftones, Slayer, Metallica (They brought back their thrash sound, thank god), Alice in chains, Nirvana, etc. Those bands know what they fuck they are doing.
My cousin really likes this band so I decided to try it myself. Eh, not my cup of tea. They're too whiney and I think the rap is terrible. Every single song sounds the same, the singing is very monotonous with a few slightly off-key half-steps up and down the key every couple beats with the same old guitar riff over and over again and...it's just boring /: But, hey, that's just my opinion, to each their own.
It was unique, and some people may not get that, I do, but that is just me. It isn't their same sound, and I don't get why everyone and their mother wants music to sound EXACTLY THE FUCKING SAME. We get enough of that with all the Mainstream bullshit. It would also be nice to note that they are not under the same label anymore, and are making more what they themselves want rather then what the label is telling them to do. Not trying to change opinions with that statement mind you.
I thought this album sucked at first, but then I listened to the songs again months later and they grew on me. As of yesterday, I've grown a love for "Wretches and Kings", "Waiting for the End", but my favorite off this album would definitely be "Iridescent". But overall; it just has too many goddamn interlude tracks
as an album it tells an amazing message, takes you through a sonic journey when you listen to all the songs one after the other, however, none of the songs stand out individually and definitely wont be as well remembered as in the end or numb etc.
i think on the whole it was a good album which shows the versatility of linkin park.

Not all old Linkin Park fans hate this album. I have been a Linkin Park fan since day one, and I love this album. I do not think they sold out at all. You cannot please everyone. Of course I love their old music, but I also love "A Thousand Suns" way better than "Minutes to Midnight. "Minutes to Midnight" was way too angsty. Not everyone is going to like all of their albums. As long as they are happy with their music, then what they are producing is fine. People change, sounds change.
the wounds were healed by buying limp bizkits gold cobra, people can be sheep and hate on the durst but at least they deliver, it also helped when i fully discovered hed pe who made an album not long after ats was released, they dont get alot of press but truth rising was still true to a band that lost 3 original members already. the nu-metal term is a lazy way to describe a band who is diverse in style and most bands get discouraged out of it by the term, the strong minded stick to their guns.
On August 31, 2005 I bought the meteora album, and listened to it in a hotel, since me and my family were on vacation. I loved every fricken song. Then I bought hybrid theory, loved it. Then I got minutes to midnight, awesome album. But a thousand suns? I didnt bother listening to it. They've changed.
You can cleary hear this guy has no idea what he is talking about..this album really is a masterpiece and has a waaaay deeper meaning than any other album i have ever heard..Linkin Park could have mad another Hybrid Theory/Meteora but instead, they stepped it up as artists and made something more.

To all those defending this album as a concept album, just tell us what the concept is. The best I can tell is that it's some kind of "story" about those who went to hell, and the implication is that God is unfair (like we have'nt heard that before). They don't even have the guts to openly accuse Christians of being hypocrites, we're just supposed to get the vibe that they don't like the Christian worldview. Every track sounds like an interlude and the album sounds like a minimix.
None of you get it, it is a concept album in sense that it is a metaphor of sounds that resemble confusion with the droning, blame on the government for nuclear threats with the lyrics. Yes, it is a complicated concept, but it I GET IT, and before saying they have sold out, or they are going to continue to write songs like this, look at their recent live videos, they play the songs just like they did in the early 2000's., and THIS IS A CONCEPT, not a permanent style change musically. \m/
This album is garbage. No they aren't selling out, and no they weren't forced to make softer music, but this album is still garbage. No i'm not a metalhead, I listen to indie rock and electronic music, and for me who LOVED Minutes To Midnight, to not enjoy this album should prove something to everyone. This album isn't a masterpiece. It's garbage. They have one song where it's just crickets and bombs, and it's doesn't segue smoothly into the next track. Very lazy effort, with only one good song

MtM was a shit political commentary as well as an ego trip for Chester with boring instrumentals and a lack of Joe and Mike (who make LP what it is). At least on this new album they have some aspects of what Hybrid Theory and Meteora had, I think it's many steps up from minutes to midnight.

Joe Hahn doing effects and DJing, Mike rapping to compliment Chester's vocals/screaming and it sounds like they took away mike and joe and added more of phoenix and rob which was a mistake I think because it sounds to rock-y. Also they cuss in this one, the used to not cuss at all and I respected that because they didn't need to now it's like wtf?

Well in the Hybrid Theory EP they cuss at times(example Step Up) and I don't mind them doing it if its not like MNM where every other word is a cuss, which it isn't.

Chester is trying to hard to be bono. Practically half of a thousand suns is all intervals rather than songs, and they do repeat the same lyrics in the same songs. I completely agree with the when they come for me lyrics are stupid. They basically just talk shit about their fan base for expecting decent music.
I've never been a big linkin park fan. I really only like their first album. It's basically what got me into some hard music. I was young so, my true metalocrity was waiting.
In My Opinion only three songs were good on A Thousand Suns.
1. Blackout
2. Wretches and Kings
3, The Catalyst
I wish they would go back to their HT and Meteora roots. This album involves going through loads of shit just to get to three good tracks. This album is a 2/5.
Attention Linkin Park Fans, you're all overreacting about the band's slide into mediocrity. We're talking about 2 bad albums put out by LP and yet you as fans are saying they should roll over and die. David Bowie put out 20 years worth of crap after SM and yet he's still revered by his fans going back to Space Oddity. I actually liked the new album. Not quite as good as the old ones, but not bad, either. Way better than the rest of the shit they shovel out nowadays. I also like that they talk about the NWO in their lyrics.
The only good song out of the A Thousand Suns album is Waiting For the End. Everything else is absolutely crap. I liked the old Linkin Park way more than this A Thousand Suns shit. They were way better with their old style. It suited them better.
When you listen to "When They Come For Me"'s lyrics, they OBVIOUSLY state that they are not the same as the way they used to be, and they are sick of people complaining (i.e. "Stop talking and start trying to catch up") about it.
I know it's not exactly perfect, but it's also a CONCEPT ALBUM! That's why all of the interludes and whatnot are there.
You also need to stop complaining about repetition when you yourself stated how multiple songs came out of nowhere!

Mues you should be burning in hell. The album was the best album I've ever heard. Really good. Yeah the messenger sucks but it grows on you. Try listening to the album while working out, it really gets you in the zone. But you're a skinny little cece boy, I don't even think you workout.
Uh, can you like, I dunno, review the album without comparing it to the first 2? Review the album for what it is and not for who it's by. ATS is the album that got me back into LP. I was a fan before that but not by much. Meteora is hands down my favorite, but no offense but this review is totally biased and not good.

Im not a MASSIVE Linkin Park fan, but ive always liked them. I remember listening to minutes till midnight in a HMV in Singapore while on holiday, and i remember thinking "this album sucks, however i bought the album when i got home and after many listens i ended up liking it. I wish i could say the same for A Thousand Suns however, i think this album is trying to be sooooo original and out there that it actually fails because of this, i just dont get what Linkin Park are about these days
I really do agree that the tunes are repetitive. It is only really meant to be something you listen to all at once which really sucks, I like being able to think of a song I like and play it when I'm bored or depressed, not sitting at a computer trying to understand a message throughout an album. However it did have some pretty good singles like Blackout, When They Come For Me, The Catalyst, Wretches and Kings and Iridescent was alright. And It's annoying they left out Blackbirds.

Just looking at their recent concerts, I can't help but notice how happy they look (Mike especially). They love what they've done, and so do I.

I was so eager to buy a thousand suns, but when I actually listened to this fucking album, I was sorry I even bought it. Who can really like this shit? seems like LP is going down... I'm so pissed at them.. they always need two years or more to produce an album and then they can't even make this properly. My piece of advice: Save your money if you haven't already bought it. It's definitely a waste of money.
I'm a huge Linkin Park fan... and when I heard this fail album for the first time, I've been so anxious for there next album. But I'm probably gonna have to wait another two fucking years.

MtM was a shit political commentary as well as an ego trip for Chester with boring instrumentals and a lack of Joe and Mike (who make LP what it is). At least on this new album they have some aspects of what Hybrid Theory and Meteora had, I think it's many steps up from minutes to midnight.

Joe Hahn doing effects and DJing, Mike rapping to compliment Chester's vocals/screaming and it sounds like they took away mike and joe and added more of phoenix and rob which was a mistake I think because it sounds to rock-y. Also they cuss in this one, the used to not cuss at all and I respected that because they didn't need to now it's like wtf?

3, The Catalyst
I wish they would go back to their HT and Meteora roots. This album involves going through loads of shit just to get to three good tracks. This album is a 2/5.

When you listen to "When They Come For Me"'s lyrics, they OBVIOUSLY state that they are not the same as the way they used to be, and they are sick of people complaining (i.e. "Stop talking and start trying to catch up") about it.
I know it's not exactly perfect, but it's also a CONCEPT ALBUM! That's why all of the interludes and whatnot are there.
You also need to stop complaining about repetition when you yourself stated how multiple songs came out of nowhere!

Im not a MASSIVE Linkin Park fan, but ive always liked them. I remember listening to minutes till midnight in a HMV in Singapore while on holiday, and i remember thinking "this album sucks, however i bought the album when i got home and after many listens i ended up liking it. I wish i could say the same for A Thousand Suns however, i think this album is trying to be sooooo original and out there that it actually fails because of this, i just dont get what Linkin Park are about these days

I really do agree that the tunes are repetitive. It is only really meant to be something you listen to all at once which really sucks, I like being able to think of a song I like and play it when I'm bored or depressed, not sitting at a computer trying to understand a message throughout an album. However it did have some pretty good singles like Blackout, When They Come For Me, The Catalyst, Wretches and Kings and Iridescent was alright. And It's annoying they left out Blackbirds.

After listening to it for hours on end now, I've learned to appreciate the new mix of abstract sounds and it is actually pretty damn good! Long live Linkin Park!

I read it quite a while back, but I remember reading an interview where Mike was saying that Hybrid Theory and Meteora were not Linkin Park. He said Minutes to Midnight and A Thousand Suns are. I think he was saying something about how the record company was pressuring them into doing what they did.

I listen to practically every genre (except any extreme metal like death metal or black metal. I hate that stuff.) Anyway, their old songs aren't "emo". Yes, they are kind of "Whiny", but it's not emo at all simply because they sing about their lives. I prefer their newer music anyway.

I was so eager to buy a thousand suns, but when I actually listened to this fucking album, I was sorry I even bought it. Who can really like this shit? seems like LP is going down... I'm so pissed at them.. they always need two years or more to produce an album and then they can't even make this properly. My piece of advice: Save your money if you haven't already bought it. It's definitely a waste of money.
