  • Is this used in the new movies?

    I don't remember it.

I really, really missed it in evangelion 1.11 at that time...

  • I remember the moment when this track played

Shinji: "I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse"

    ...

    wait a minute..

  • "I thought you didn't want me, why now father!"

"Because I have a use for you."

"But still- I can't pilot that thing!"

"If you're going to do it, do it now. If not then leave!"

-> The most quoted part of dubbed NGE in my household. So to the point.

  • @TheEarthforge I must say, That's one epic argument over who drives who to school...

  • Damn good!!!

  • What starts as this:

    I musn't run away, I musn't run away, I mustn't run away, I musn't...

    Becomes:

"I want Rei. GIVE HER BACK!"

  • 2 people decided to run away.

  • For some reason this reminds me of The Godfather... o_O

  • Pals... I don't understand why many people call Evangelion a piece of useless trash only for Shinji, being in fact he's the revelation for its era... and the current anime age.

By the way, I love this track... I wish it was on Evangelion 3.0 Soundtrack -I was shocked because this track hasn't appeared on 1.0 soundtrack.

  • Good!!

  • Hmm, while I like how dark the song is, I find it has a bit too much strenght for me to be able to fully recognise shinji in it. Feel more like a sort of "last stand heroic tragedy" tune. Would still that a bit weaker and more "quiet" version of the theme would fit him better.

  • is a dangerous world out there take this and put it on your i pod

  • I'm just so like him... Fuck.

  • "GIVE...AYANAMI...BACK..."

And the fandom shat themselves in fear.

  • @hotelmario510 its funny because I kind of randomly came to this video... and saw your comment...and was like 0_0

  • @therealfolkblues007 Hahahaha.

  • My country tis of thee...sweet land of lib--hey wait a minute! :P j/k, i still love this track, OST and anime :)

  • i want this song to my funeral

  • Only in Evangelion would the shonen kid hero get a theme so very villainous.

  • music is like a spaghetti western

  • Wow, TvTropes is right, this does sound like a mashup of The Godfather music and God Save The Queen.

  • @michaeldiogenes I dunno, perhaps more like The Godfather and Greensleeves.

  • Who are you? Who am I? I don't know,I guess I'm nobody.

No you are everybody, there are you's in everybody,Misato,Asuka,Rei,and your father

    **Solves the mystery**

    congrats

    congratulation

    nice work,congratulations

    **All together**CONGRATULATIONS

  • I don't think I can do it !!

  • this beginning is so similar to one of nadia: the secret of blue water tracks.

but both are by the same company.

  • I can't pilot that thing!

  • That last section (Even though it basically just the same thing repeated) is friggin' awesome!

  • This the song he listens to on his recorder

  • @FunFriendKid1 Wrong.

  • Hey, the opening does kinda sound like an embellished, drawn out, angsty version of GStQ... good point.

  • GOD SAVE THE QUEEN

    LONG LIVE OUR GRACIOUS QUEEN

    SEND HER VICTORIOUS

    HAPPY AND GLORIOUS

    GOD SAVE THE QUEEN

  • There's that one out-of-tune G on the piano that you can hear at the begining of the theme, interestingly. I think that proves that this is a real piano with a real person playing--the second time it comes around the pianist tries to de-emphasize the out-of-tune note.

  • my country tis of thee, sweet la...oh wait, never mind.

  • jesus christ this makes KH piano songs sound like shit

  • This song is fucking amazing.

  • To me this music sounds like a mixture of the music from the Godfather, the American national anthem, the Legend of Zelda, and Final fantasy. The composer of this music and all NGE music is fantastic!

  • @gungnir2357

Really? I'm hearing a lot of "God Save the Queen" in it myself.

  • @lamnaa Really?. It doesn't sound like that to me but I suppose different ears hear different things. And I guess it depends on what music you are exposed to frequently in your life. For example, I don't hear "God Save the Queen" very often so I didn't think to compare it to that. Anyway, it's a good and intriguing melody.

  • @gungnir2357

Yeah, plus it said that on TV Tropes.

  • @gungnir2357

    Oh, absolutely!

  • You guys ever wonder why Shinji is always listening to 80's type music on his SDAT? But then his theme is quite serious?

  • i can play this on violin! Lucky me, i can play it and hear it whenever!!

  • this song makes me wanna cry

  • Shonen is anime/manga tailored towards young boys. DBZ, One Piece, Naruto, Pokemon, Beyblades, Digimon, etc.

    If it's a fighting anime, or a magic pet/device/gladiator creature/machine plot, it's probably Shonen.

  • Cutie Honey is also considered a Shonen animé/mangá, what're you talking about ?

  • you see the last movie and still think that!

  • @polker11

I've not posted in this thread for months. What're you refering to?

  • my country tis of thee... SWEET LAND OF LIBERTY.. end

  • i thought that too.

  • "Boy" in Japanese.

  • I'v been trying to find the song that shinji's always listens to on his tape player (i.e. on the train when he ditches in like... gah now I cant remember which ep it was its been so long)

But I was always curious as to what sample plugin would sound similar to that song

  • or rather SDAT :P

  • yeah its the song during the first train scene that shinji is listening to on his SDAT in episode 4

any1 know of its title? Or of any sample plugin's fora sampler that sound similar? or are the same :P Thanks!

  • Bach Cello Suite 1 the Prelude

  • eh.... are you sure? Cause I really doubt that thats it >_> Unless it was just a cover of the song :P

These were tracks that had an 80's w/e rock vibe to it.

Not classical (quite honestly I don't ever remember him listening to any classical tracks during the actual TV series... though I may have just forgotten a few instances)

  • Or at least in the scene I'm speaking of, he wasn't listening to Bach i mean :P

  • beethoven - ode to joy ?

  • no, it's not even classical, it's a song thats more or less playing with a 80's vibe to it and makes use of keyboards and a drumtrack throughout. as said it's in the first train scene with shinji after he runs away. it shows him riding the transit almost all day, and passengers are boarding and getting off the train throughout the scene.

  • here the link to the scene, it's at around 3:57, i noticed I heard another song thats sound lieka pretty rad rock track as well. any idea what either are? Or if they were ever included in an ost release?

  • sounds like a depressing version of "america america"

  • oh fuck, i meant "my country tis of thee".

  • Hey you're right a part of it does. But the whole thing sounds like something out of Once Upon a Time in America.

  • what is rebuild of evangelion

  • a remake of the whole series into a movie

  • It's a remake/reimagining of the series in the form of four movies, two of which have been released in Japan.

  • does anybody knows if this song was remaked for rebuild of evangelion???

  • Probably yes,because it sounds diferent ;)

  • no i meant that if they redo this song in the movie rebuid of evangelion 1.0 you are (not) alone this is the original version

  • Technically it was a shonen thart was change into seinen due tto the darker second half of the series, so it could be classified either way, really.

  • This song captures Shinji's struggle perfectly. Even without trying I can imagine his tortured yell as he fights his Father, Asuka, Misato and himself.

    A masterpiece.

  • @EaglesRo87 and the angels, dont forget the angels.

  • I love this theme because it captures Shinji's character so well, and it's different from what you'd expect for a Shounen kid hero.

  • That's probably because Eva is a seinen series hiding in a genre dominated by shounen series.

  • what is seinen and shounen exactly>?

  • Shounen (or, to properly romanize, "Shōnen") is anime and manga aimed at young men (about 10-18 years old). Seinen is anime and manga aimed at older men (18-30+).

  • right. any examples?

  • be careful with the word "seinen" because ikkitousen is one, and there are some misunderstandings that seinen is similar to hentai, and that's not right.

  • Let me see... examples would be like:

'Naruto', 'Fullmetal Alchemist', nearly every gundam, 'Rurouni Kenshin',... those are all shounen.

Anime like 'Monster', 'Baccano', 'Paranoia Agent',...those are all Seinen.

Do mind, it is sometimes difficult drawing lines.

  • Neon Genisis Evangelion is a mech shonen, but with a slice of life theme. So it is a Adult theme anime with shonen content.
