As I listen to her rendition more, I begin to appreciate it more than before, even though I admire Callas's, Ponselle's, Milasnov's, Cigna's, Souliotis's, Gencer's, and Dimitrova's version even more.

Interesting. Some like apricots, others like cherries, and those who are intolerant and don't think always say the other must be wrong. There are those of us who like many kinds, people, like Callas, Crespin, Tebaldi, Sutherland and so on for pages. We have favorites, yes, and those we dislike, but we try to acknowledge greatness whenever heard and/or seen. Are they all great? Nah. Are they all equal? Nope! Do you and I have a right to like what we want? YES! Crespin was one of THE best.

The chest is a little poor, Gioconda needs powerful low notes. her tops are marvelous. A bit too much lyric. She is very careful in her voce di petto.

What I liked about this performance how Crespin seems to glide into chest voice/resonance, making it less of a "gear shift" than most other singers.  This is a beautiful recording of this rather underrecorded, great artist.
