I respectfully disagree that we are saying the message that the culture doesn't matter. That certainly is not what we intended to do. I believe as a Christian that I am intended to do my best to share with all people the reason for the hope that is within me. No one is saying this group was cut off from the world at all; I believe everyone should have the chance to hear about and respond to God's love for them.
you know its just hard to accept this because its CHRISTIAN missionaries, basically going there trying to convert kids who prolly havn't even gotten a chance to learn the traditional ways yet. kinda messed up. remind you at all of the european massive conversion and slaughter of native americans that happened centuries ago? thanks for the community service help for real, but the religious crap is messed up and feels really wrong.
Some valid points there. I guess my view is that just because something is traditional doesn't make it necessarily good or bad. Christians certainly have enough pointless or even really bad traditions in our history. One thing I really like about the organization we were with on this trip was how it was focused on presenting Christ's love to the children, while at the same time attempting to live out God's call to us by actively engaging in community service.
It really doesn't matter weather or not the traditional ways are good or bad, or even valid. Native Americans have a culture, and by sending mission trips out and targetting the kids youre basically saying that the culture doesn't matter. Those kids aren't closed off from the world, they don't need missionaries there to save them. They are open to gods love without you, it just might not nessisarily be the specific religous figure you told them about.
Im from red lake And I think its very awsome and cool what you guys do for everyone..Im sure it was very well appreciated.
