What i dont get is if the game takes place on Reach, then were is Fred, Kelly, Anton and the other spartans that dropped. Oh and Im pretty sure in the book Fall of Reach cortana never leaves the Master Chief

@salvador155 This takes place before Halo: Combat Evolved, so some things to remember.

1. Cortana meets Master Chief in the first Halo, for the first time, at the beginning. Cortana is basically Doctor Halsey, and Cortana is created(coded?) in Halo Reach, during that time line, so she hasn't met Master Chief yet.

2. Bungie and the books, originally were more canon than they are now, so there are more discrepancies between Reach and the books.

Read the wiki on Spartan II's and III's to help.

To answer your question, the spartans go through lots of training during early childhood.

And it is because of that, that they thought Carter would make a good leader.

Think about it...They start at 6, and then augmented at 15. They go through lots of training missions.

SPARTAN II were like puppets for the UNSC, they were bad asses and heroes off course, but their lives weren't funny at all.

SPARTAN III are the worse, they are cannon fodders and nobody knows about them. They spend their entire lives trainning to die and no one knows about it.

For people who don't know, the difference between the spartan II and spartan III is that spartan twos were taken and trained when they were children. Spartan threes were highly trained and skilled marines who were taken out of the UNSC.
