I think it's just terrible that Bolivia's rich mineral resources were exploited by foreigners -- leaving the people there as poor as church mice, forcing children as young as 13 to slave in the mines just to be able to get something to eat, then die before they reach the age of forty due to asbestos poisoning :-(
This is the first place I've ever seen asbestos blamed for miners dying. Maybe a mis-translation like "Uncle" for "Tio" (a mispronunciation of "God").
Silicosis (called Black Lung in US) is what causes their death. The dust builds up in their lungs, until it fills their lungs, they bleed and eventually die. Thanks very much for your comment. I'm glad to see that someone else has the same "heart" as I do for the Bolivians.
hopefully bolivia will continue towards pulling itself out of the catastrophe that centuries of foreign imperialism and colonialism has created, along with the hypocritical "free trade" rules imposed on south america from washington, IMF, world bank, etc. these people are in need of social programs to help them get a solid standing in society so they can move towards personal independence from the chains of harsh economic markets imposed from abroad.
My father was a minor in the biggest tin mine of South America. Do not mock El Tio...mocking and making fun of El Tio can be diastrous.

health programs are a basic human right, people should not have to rely on what they can scrap together for a living.
