People like to argue the fact that all was hunky dory during this concert and that the voices of the crowd were "edited" out but the fact is, the crowd was much louder during daylight while they could see around them but got much quieter as it got dark outside because they had to be more aware of who was near them and their surroundings. Also telling is the fact that James mentions how quiet the crowd is in several of these videos filmed in Moscow during the Monsters of Rock concert of 1991.

@Danigryhan----According to a Romanian I have talked to who was there, a lot of people in the crowd and on stage were on edge and several people were shot and killed during this concert. He said you could be shot for just looking at some of the military security the wrong way. I have no reason to doubt him. And even though the Soviet Union had fallen there were still a lot of sympathizers and still are. He also said very few of the citizens there will admit to any of that for fear of retaliation

As a matter of fact, one of these video's from this concert, and I can't remember which song they were playing at the time, or it could have been when I think Lars and Kirk were out talking to people rather than a strictly musical video, but it was still kind of light out and a few people had tried to start a mosh pit and "security" was beating the daylights out of them with batons of some kind, so find that video and you get a small taste of what was going on deep down in the massive crowd.

When people try to argue that it was all peace and love out in the crowd during that concert need only look at that video because it clearly shows the hostility and rage between the militia and the fans. It also shows for fact why people in the crowd AND the bands on stage knew they had reason for concern. Folks attending were brave as hell and knew lives were at risk, especially as it got darker. The dark brought on more fear in the crowd, especially tense was when they played "One" after dark with all the loud pyrotechnics used in the beginning of the song. He said the citizens would never admit all this for fear of retaliation. He was really brave to tell me what he did I think. By the end of the set, the crowd was almost silent, as you see Lars startled by the silence as he leaves the drum kit.
