yeah it's all very jolly talking about fans over air cond when you have the poofta summer UK has, come here with your poxy fan... 45 degree air blowing at you... thanks Jimbo.
I don't think anyone cares about 'discomfort' caused by blade fans, that they can carry several at a time, or that you can store them easily. The fact they're environmentally friendly and energy efficient so potentially save money seems far more interesting and would have greater potential to encourage people to fork out $200 compared to a classic fan for less than $50. Until Dyson find a different way of selling this product it seems they've invented something with little real value
This technology has been used for industrial purposes since the '70's. So its not like he invented this. He just scaled it down to size for use as a fan.
@Deyman123 haha. I just got a Honeywell Blower fan yesterday. It's dead quiet. Has a Thermostat built in. Comes with a remote, Oscillates, Has a timer, AND is light as hell. Only problem i had is a weird noise this one makes (defective) Gonna return it and get another otherwise this tower blower unit BLOWS away the airmultiplier in quietness and power. (since cylindrical blowers are generally much quieter)
I'm not a fan of fans and in fact the 'breeze' is for free thinking anarchists and hippies! I didn't lose both of my legs in Korea for you liberals to max out to a free-form acid wind party! Damn you and your hemp born wind tunnels! Dyson is the anti-vac! Repent. Attica!
if it works like the air blade hand drier they should use it to make better hairdryers. ( I have dibs on the Intelectual property right on this one ! ) haha
@mrplease66 "300£ is a totally absurd price for a breeze." Agreed. That's even more than what they sell it for in the U.S. ($300). Dyson reminds me of the apple of vacuum cleaners and fans. They act like they invented most of this shit when in fact this technology has been around for a very long time. Even the had drier he made. The Japanese have been making those since the 90's. FAKE DYSON! you aren't original besides begin a salesmen.
Amazon sells a "Bionaire Remote Control Tower Fan with Sliding Control Panel" for £52. No contest, the Bionaire is almost 1/4 of the price and does so much more.
Classic mistake. They have discovered something "Cool" and they have tried to find a use for it. That is the wrong way round to do things! You need to find a problem/annoyance encounted by many and then develop a solution for it. Such as with the ball-barrow and bagless vacuum cleaner. This to me is another Dyson washing machine.
What happens when the impeller gets clogged up with dust? Thats a far bigger hassel to clean than cleaning the blades of a fan. Honestly!! A nice idea but they should never have wasted money in putting it into production unless they sell it for about £80. Still pricey but at that sort of price it doesn't take the piss nearly as much. PeopleatDysonAreObviouslyEarningTooMuchMoney and have lost touch with their markets.
I saw one of these fans at Best Buy. It's very quiet, and cool looking, but doesn't put out much air, and costs $300. No, thanks...I'll stick with the $20 model, and put up with the "discomfort" of air moved the old fashioned way. In addition, the air is forced from the outside of the ring, but the center does nothing. Again, a cool gadget, but certainly not worth what it costs.
I like the concept of this but it sounds like its using the same motor as the airblade which is quite noisy. If they got the decibels down along with the price tag, I'd buy one.
think of it as a piston (bladed fan) aircraft engine vs a jet engine (bladeless). basically more drag = more energy wasted. blades have use drag to move the air the jet engine doesnt.
do you know how stupid you sound? 1.) grammar. and 2.) jet engines have blades, they are just used in a different manner than those on an IC engine on a small aircraft.
What dyson didn't like about the fan blades is the inconsistent and spiral airflow coming from ordinary fans.
@frappleknives older aircraft engines used a piston style motor to power the blades through the air. I think a ramjet would be a better analogy of what this is. small amount of energy to force air moving within the ring, which causes the surrounding air to move as well.
@khaderach19 it's pretty simple fluid mechanics, the moving air around the foil creates a zone of lower pressure which draws more air from the surrounding high pressure environment...
@lowtone10 sorry for the late reply, yes I suppose you could think of it that way. The relatively higher pressure areas are drawn towards the lower pressure areas, creating this movement of air that we experience as wind.
The world needs more James Dyson's. Passionate about something. Even if that passion is making vacuums.

Chops the air up? Who cares
Danger to kids? Yeah any kid who sticks their hand in a fan is braindead
Easier to clean? Yeah sure, boy it takes a lot of effort to snap off a safety grill and wipe the blades

ad a water mist sprayer to it and I'll buy it

@128pinkfloyd But what he invented was the multiplying action by blowing the air over the airfoil at an angle
