Ever read the online page called "The Dark Side of Lasagna Gardening" ?? It's probably the quintessential preface for any and all Part 1 presentations on this kind of sheet mulching.
very creative and its cool. My only comment is that it seems like it is not the most efficient way to compost .... a heap of compost will heat up and compost quicker with the thermotrophic organisms.
I have done a variation of this at my moms house today. It was my mothers day present to her, building a garden.. Still haven't finished, I'm very confident about it. Looks good thus far!! I should document my progress too!
Waiting for frost to clear to plant. Will have new "Lasagna planting" videos by the end of month plus a quick start Lasagna Flower bed video with sunflowers.
Depends... If it's growing from underneath, you didn't add enough newspaper/cardboard to smother it. If it's on top and can easily be pulled up, it just seed that has floated in. Lasagna Gardening doesn't prevent weeds it just prolongs to appearance of weed and keeps the deep rooted ones out. You need to pull that grass soon before it gets too strong a root system or add a thick layer of newspaper on top of it and dig holes in newspaper to plant.
More newspaper...Cardboard is better. When you pick your area to have your garden.."scalp" the grass, meaning mow it on the lowest setting on the mower. Then place 3 layers of cardboard over the area..make sure you extend the cardboard a little beyond the perimeter of your garden. Just keep weeding the grass out of your bed that you have. Also, straw has wheat seeds in it, so you may find some wheat clumps that look like grass, but it's easy to pull up.

It could be that the straw AnnieNM06 used had some weed seed in it. Happens a lot.

I like to use hair to frame the garden. The human smell keeps out the wildlife!

Good idea.

Hmm.. good to know. I haven't used too much hair yet. Thanks

Not too much hair, it gets matted and won't break down.
