@nicol3b As Florida is part of America, so too is Martinique a part of France. It's a 'Department' of France. It is not an independent country like St. Lucia.

@nicol3b What's wrong with colonialism? A lot of people would still be living in the stone age without it! Quite often when the colonials are kicked-out, the country goes into free-fall. Zimbabwe is a classic example but similar has happened in other places.
