My CCW instructor was a snooze, but he did say one thing that resonates deeply. "Their is no such thing as a missed shot. That bullet's going to hit something." Amen to that. If you have a 30 round Glock or a 17 rounds S&W like my M&P, your going to be more prepared to shoot faster. IF you miss one or 10 rounds, their going to keep going down range to who knows what? Maybe the ground, maybe a car door, maybe a baby carriage! So just practice with what ever your piece is and learn control.
my dad is a retired police officer..when he was in active duty his primary gun 9mm jericho but he always carry a snob nose 357 taurus for back up...he said he just cant trust 100% any magzine type pistol
Revolvers suck....they are inaccurate and what if a bad guy is wearing a Class III ballistic vest as many do for home invasions! You're dead idiot. Get a 460!
@joe50189 LOL The internet is great, but you should come out of your mommy's basement every now and then. Revolvers are very accurate! I hate to be the one that tells you this, but a class IIIA vest claims balistic protection, for handgun rounds, up to 44 magnum (a revolver round) The 460 has the ballistics similar to lighter 44 magnum loads. If you going to act like a know it all, then do your homework
@joe50189 I have several revolvers and automatics. The Auto's have jammed on me but the revolvers have never failed to fire. BUT, I have a M&P full size S&W 9mm 4 inch barrel that's not as accurate at my Taurus Model 85 stubby revolver! My 2 oldest guns, my 2 favorite guns, but the .38 is more accurate withing 7 yards ( Legal Defensive Range for shooting an attacker in Florida. ) The M&P is no slouch though. My daily carry is a .380 Taurus, so I do love my auto's.
@KRYTEN451 You should look at the Ruger LCR in .22LR. They just came out with it a few weeks back, and it's got a great trigger pull right out of the box. Also small enough for her to carry it around in a purse or something.
Looking at a revolver for the wife.. however the DA is an issue, so I would need to find one that's light on the trigger pull and small caliber, probably a .22.
@bmwnasher I thought the U.K. allowed non military caliber weapons to be owned by the people? .380 being the largest auto you could legally own since the 9mm is the NATO standard?
@vulpixgrant As far a im am aware you can`t get a firearm certificate for any handgun in the UK. Even high power Air rifles need a firearm cetificate. Game keepers rifles are only 3 shot . Shotguns are allowed with a licence but not auto or pump. We have the most strict gun laws in the world.
@bmwnasher - Must be another European country I am thinking of. Wow that sucks, but a single shot shot gun is a very good home defense weapon if you know how to use it. Their was a video on You Tube but I can't find it, where they had a shell "Sock" on the butt of the gun and the guy was getting a shot off every 4 to 5 seconds. Get the license and own what you can legally, it's the best any law abiding citizen should do. :)
Very good video Van! People are so quick to dismiss revolvers, even though they make great sense to me at least.
The whole thought that the 1911 - a one hundred year old construction that holds the same or at least a comparable amount of cartridges to a revolver of a comparable size - should be a better weapon with all it's finicky little flaws is absurd to me. No thanks, either give me a revolver or a semi auto with more modern features!
@BobcatSchneidermann Hey buddy, thanks for stopping by!! Revolvers are great, and even though I enjoy my semi auto's, there's just something special about a nice wheelgun. Thanks
you have to be efficient with your gun, a 6-shot 38 is adequate. especially if you practice with it. i dont see a 38 revolver being out gunned unless your in a freaking war against ak's and m4's.
They're useless these days! criminals travel in 8 to 10 people per attack, and even if you hit all 5 or 6 of your targets you got at least 2 more to go and your already out of ammo. Not to mention the fact that you have an extremely heavy trigger pull if you don't take the time to cock the hammer before each shot. I know that it will never jam, but I know every round in a semi auto has no chance of not firing from the cartridge already being fired. my empties fly out. revolvers make you do it!
@FrogMike81 I like my semi autos, but I have to say that revolvers still are very effective defensive firearms. If 8 to 10 folks are going to attack you from typical self defense ranges (21 feet and closer) then you're going to have a bad day no matter what you have. I would surmise that in most cases that once you start shooting holes in a couple of them, the others might start rethinking their intentions.
@FrogMike81 I would have been much more likely to agree before the extractor on my "great" and expensive Kahr K9 broke. I'll never trust that gun again, and trusting any semi-auto will be difficult.
@FrogMike81 Wow what video games are you playing? Or where do you live that 8 to 10 people attack you? Or what do you think you will be in where you will have to attack 8 to 10 people? Hell even a Glock with a 30 round clip is a bad choice against that many people, you need an AK or M4 sir. As a hired executive protection in South Africa and Mexico, I always carried a revolver, and if we thought 8-10 could have attacked the VIP we carried WAY bigger things.
@myloveforMMA Its no video game sir! Its called gang violence around the perimeter of downtown Birmingham and the inner city area. As a young white dude, I seem to look like a good target for life threatening muggings and whatever else they want to get done that day. I would Carry an ak, but the boys in blue wouldn't take to kindly to it. I guess a draco AK pistol would work, but I don't want to wear clothes bulky enough to conceal it all time. Its been getting bad the past couple of years
@FrogMike81 Well I still think that a revolver will suffice, and it will force you to pick your shots, and I am sorry, I know how it is to be light-skinned in the ghettos of the Cities, I live in Los Angeles ha :) But if it concerns you that much, I'd carry a Glock in 9mm or a "Five Seven" handgun, and don't forget to carry a knife, trust me.
@FrogMike81 If you don't mind all that bulkiness all the time than go for it, I like wearing tight clothing (skinny jeans too DONT JUDGE ME ) lol so yeah I don't like carrying big mags or big handguns, to be honest I carry a small boot knife and a small 5 shot 357 revolver. I don't plan on sticking around to shoot at 8-10 guys shooting at me, and I doubt that would happen, and if it happened by surprise I am pretty much screwed, and if I knew about it before hand I'd have my M4
@FrogMike81 I carry a ruger gp100 .357 with the 3inch barrel & I keep 4 speedloader pouches on my belt giving me a total of 30 rounds of 125gr. JHP .357. So yes, a revolver can handle 8-10 attackers.
personally i t think a 38 or 357 are best. I know people say revolvers are at a disadvantage cause they hold less rounds. People have to keep in mind that pistols that use clips can jam. I know from personal experience, Ive have .380, 9mm jam on me. It can jam just for the sake of it or because spring fatigue or because it was shot too fast. My revolvers never jammed and theyre build like tanks and almost impossible to destroy. Imma good shooter so i dont need a clip with 10+ rounds.
@realdeal119 they jam cause of the weak wrist you have, and what will you do when the average group of ten assailants come to rob and kill you and your family?
@FrogMike81 man are you serious? Weak wrist? man Im 350 pounds and can bench 450. Plus i keep a 357/.38 for denfense and i own a 44mag,etc that could turn someones wrist into a punching bag. I assure u my wrist isnt weak. Ive had semis break on me while none of my relovers have broken cause theyre built like tanks. I have semi pistols. I just dont use them. I highly doubt theives are gonna travel in 8-10 persons.Tell me this, what semi auto would you use in self defense
@realdeal119 First off, yes they do very often roll 10 deep. It is a very good intimidation strategy that works nearly every time. I have had 3 home invasions, my car has been hit twice in the same day, and one brutal mugging. The semi auto that I now carry is the Glock 21 full size 45acp. I keep the standard 13 round mag in the well, one in the chamber, and one 30rd extended mag in my left pocket. After the 1500 rds that I put through it with zero jams or mag malfunctions, I can trust it.
@realdeal119 My mom brought me up shooting .38spl and .44mag from age 4 and then 5 for the .44. It was a lot easier then because my whole hand fit on the grip. Now its like shooting a cannon and holding on to a toothpick. Revolvers are fun, accurate, and lethal, but they're nothing compared to a broken in, high end semi auto.
@realdeal119 A .357 Mag is great--if you can control it. Depending on the load, it may kick like a mule. The best gun is not only the one you have with you; it's the one you can actually use competently!
@MASTERBLASTER118 When Glock first came out, I picked one up, held it, and said: "That has to be the ugliest gun I've ever seen. A plastic framed gun will never last" Boy was I wrong about that!!... the dependability part that is. LOL
@GunznGear im not saying that its not reliable, just never liked the ergonomics(surprised i spelled it right) its to blocky, my hands are big enough to fit it but it just doesnt have the same feel like a k frame smith revolver does.
@MASTERBLASTER118 I know you weren't, I was just sharing my memory of seeing Glocks for the first time. I was influenced by the grip angle of the 1911 and the High Power, so the Glock seems a bit awkward.
@MASTERBLASTER118 Oh man, If you're looking for flare, custom looks, and engravings in your guns, please check out lonewolfdist com they either already have or can create whatever you want.
@Friedstuffsable There many variables and tolerances envolved with any firearm. You need to take your revolver to a quality gunsmith and have him check it out.
@GunznGear i dident say it was wrong to be able to a gun, i just think its scary that every body can cary a gun, even the drug dealer down the road, i kow many people who shood never even go near a gun
I agree the the Revolver is a VERY good choice for home defence. in home the shots are going to be short range, 15 to 20 ft. revolvers dont jam -and if it dosent go bang just pull the trigger again. a 38 is a big bullet when you shoot at damn near point blank range and makes intruders just as dead as anything dirty harry would carry. Im a big fan of the hammerles 38, easy to use, even half asleep, and dosent get all hung up or snagged in clothing.
@esh325 so can semi-autos. revolvers are better if you have a dud round, in a revolver if you have a round not go off just cock the hammer back or if you have a double action revolver pull the trigger. in a semi auto, well sorry mate. your screwed. id rather have a revolver over a auto any day. more firepower and damn near impossible to break, unless its a rohm(they are trash)
@esh325 357 mag, 38 special, most your typical revolver rounds are twice or even three times as big as a 9mm, .380acp .32acp your typical auto ammunition that is used. the 357 mag is considered the best man stopper out there, in the right round there is plenty of expansion with no over penetration.
@MASTERBLASTER118 In terms of diameter, they are about the same. The 9mm is .36 caliber. The .357 magnum is .38 caliber. The .38 special is inferior to the 9mm in my opinion, but the .357 magnum is more powerful then the 9mm. Good 9mm JHP's expand and penetrate pretty well. I still would take the 9mm autoloader over the revolver.
@esh325 well numbers dont lie, but i wouldn't call the .38 inferior, it does the same thing as the 9mm does, maybe a little slower but it gets the job done, after all it brings you home to your family and that's what counts. i do see your point on the auto, i carry a 357sig on my patrols, and i swear by it. it has saved my life a few times and thats what matters.
@MASTERBLASTER118 True, the .38 will get the job done. I like revolvers, but I just think somebody with a decent level of experience in firearms would be better served with an autoloader then a revolver. It is no mistake that Police and militaries around the world dropped their revolvers for autoloaders. From an armorers standpoint, a revolver is much harder to work on and replace parts.
@esh325 yeah, your right about that, revolvers are more complicated because of more parts have to work in unison, and i hate having to fix a revolver, its just a pain in the ass. but so are auto's they all have there problems.
@esh325@esh325 well there is NO doubt a 38 is a larger bullet with a larger case. I reload both. I can make +p rounds in 180 grain for a 38. which could never be done for a 9mm. Saying all that in the "real world" a 38 is gonna be fired in most cases out of a snub nose and a 9mm out of a 4" or better barrel. so the 9mm will beat it on paper. But if you put the two rounds up against each other out of the same barrel, 38 wins hands down. But in the "real would" no one carries a 4" 38 sp around.
@MASTERBLASTER118 If you get quality defense ammo, it shouldn't happen though. And if a dud does happen, I still have like 17 rounds vs 6 of a revolver.
@esh325 i have had police training, so in my line of work they require you to be able to hit your target from up to 25 yards away, its all about shot placement. most civilians confrontations occur within 3 to 7 yards, its not that hard to hit a target at 7 yards, even with a snubby its still pretty easy. myself personally from the standpoint of a officer, i would rather have one good powerful round knock a guy flat on his ass than have to pump him full. just my beliefs though.
@MASTERBLASTER118 " i would rather have one good powerful round knock a guy flat on his ass than have to pump him full. just my beliefs though." One can't really use that argument anymore for the revolver. We have .357 Sig,.45 acp, and 10mm anyways. That knockdown advantage is not unique to the revolver anymore. A smith just can't get beat a Glock in .357 sig which can hold 17 rounds.
I either carry My Kimber Ultra Crimson Carry .45 auto loaded with REM Golden sabre 185 grn +p and a spare mag loaded with 230 grn hydrashok.
Or I carry my S&W Model 627 PC 2.5" in 357 (Bloodwork gun) I have that loaded with 8 rnds of Fed 125 grn SJH (357B) the old FBI round along with another 8 rnds in a fivestar speedloader. Either way wouldn't be a good day for the bad guy.
@joetheexpert12 Very true, but you can make the perfect double lung/heart shot on a deer, and still have to track him quite a distance. In self defense, the attacker may be as good as dead, but continues to attack. It is better to have more than one round. There is little comfort to your loved ones if your attacker dies after he has killed you!!!
@ThatWhiteGuy97 A single action revolver can only be fired by pulling back the hammer until it locks, and pulling the trigger. A double action revolver can be fired by the same method as the single action, and it can also be fired by only pulling the trigger. 2 ways to fire, hence double action.

great video..im cleaning my taurus 85 as i watch this...carry it sometimes temporarily until i get me a black one...my LCP is such a damn good carry ...use it as a primary in the summer and part of spring and backup in winter fall...love all your vids
@joetheexpert12 I bought the SP101 for CCW. I have carried it in a belly band comfortably. The best belly band I've used so far, is the one made by Galco.
One thing I'll say. If I only have five shots I want 500 magnum. Dead serious. Revolvers are IMPOSSIBLE to reload under pressure when you have a bad guy 7 feet away from you. Two or three revolvers incase the primary runs empty is an option
@VinnyS914 If an attacker is at 7' and closing, you will not be able to reload a semi auto either. From training courses I've taken, I've learned at close distances such as that, it will be all you can do to just draw your firearm before the attacker is on top of you. Solid hits from an effective caliber with good ammo is much more important than capacity.
@GunznGear True but as much as I love revolvers I'll say flat out that a semi auto will have more rounds to throw before it goes cold. Good home defense revolver would hold 7-8 rounds
@roldans99 Well, I know it's a 5 shot J frame chambered in 357mag and/or 38spcl. I think it was Smiths first revolver originally produced in stainless. I used to have a 38spcl version w/ a 3"barrel. If you have the 357mag version it's going to recoil a bit b/c it's a small frame gun, but it wouldn't be as bad as some guns made with scandium or titanium in the same chambering.
very informative!it's true the.45 acp is not the messiah of all ammo sir,but you fail to note that penetration, and velocity factors between the 2 rds makes the .357 less predictable, being it could end up anywhere after passing through the primary target.footnote on the hammer shroud is it was basically invented so the gun can be fired from inside the pocket without catching on clothing up close and personal, utilizing the short belly to belly barrel, hence the term"belly-gun".//later dude, good vid
@nodillinger Thanks for your comment. Over penetration is a danger w/ many calibers, and should be considered especially choosing which load to use. To my knowledge, the 45acp may be the best when comparing FMJ rds but with the variety of ammo available today, some 45acp loads may also over penetrate. One reason the 125gr jhp in 357 is so revered is b/c of it's lack of over penetration. On the other hand, a LEO friend of mine told me of a shooting w/ 45acp 200gr jhp left baseball size exit holes!
@GunznGear i concur but we're talking apples and oranges at this point i think these things start to become statistical abstractions .357 is a great round,i once owned a ruger security 6,it shot just fine.a rd that nearly relegated the .38 super to the history books has to to have some good ballistics i've narrowed my.357/.38 shooting to an old imi timberwolf pump-action rifle, wish i could find 1 in .44mag.i thought the shrouded gun info was more trivially entertaining though historically adios
@nodillinger The subject of over penetration is not given enough thought by most. I fear, as the numbers of CCW holders increase, there will also be an increase of good, law abiding citizens caught up in the tangled web of law. I endeavor to address comments concisely. OP, and the liability that insues, is a legitimate issue. I also wanted to raise awareness of this subject, to others who may read our conversation, and orate a couple of myths concerning both 45 and 357.
@GunznGear granpa said you can judge a mans intellect,by how much he agrees with you.your I.Q.is gaining points,it seems our safety is becoming a chessgame where you have to be many moves into the future before you defend yourself not discounting OP it's1 more factor in the defense equation.target ID,background material, who's,what's behind that wall etc..lawyers that think it's more about winning than justice.let the personal caliber rah-rahs get their own lawyers retained before they shoot
@GunznGear looking at a marlin .45-70 guide saw one on hickok.45,just love those short- long guns,to bad i can't find.45-70 in a pump like the timberwolf. since speaking of calibers earlier i know this1 has a very nice whack to it,i wonder what elucidations that caliber will promote from any oracles, and i tender an apology to any legit experts or students for my glib nature since i'm not 1 and barely the other.i confess to mostly.45s,but i have 8 other calibers in the box, long and short guns
@nodillinger Over the years, I've owned several lever guns chambered in 45-70. I am a fan of the big slow thumpers!! That fondness is mainly from the perspective of hunting in thick cover. A 45-70 pump would be very enticing indeed!! Lord knows I'm no expert, but my life has provided many opportunities to experience the joy of shooting many firearms. I endeavor to learn, and at times fervorently so, and I aspire to raising awareness of that which I find elation.
@teddyd30 There are many good solid defensive chamberings in a variety of handguns. To limit oneself to a single chambering and/or style of handgun means you miss out on a lot of great guns!! Thanks
I have a question for you, what in your opinion is a good .357/.38+p combo revolver for defensive use. Preferably not a belly gun. Also a small comment about what you said about .357 round and somebody told me this at one time. "It may not kill them but they will quickly learn you have a problem with whatever they are attempting to do".
@theduke256 You said defensive use, I seperate my defensive handguns into 3 catagories: CCW, back up, and other. 3 companies that make excellent revolvers that I own are: Ruger, S&W, and Taurus. For CCW, I prefer a 3" gun in a sturdy medium frame like the Ruger SP101, or a Taurus. Back up guns, I like the lightweights from S&W, and Taurus. The other group is bigger guns when concealability is not a concern, I like the larger S&W's and Ruger GP100. S&W686 and Ruger GP100 are all around favorites
2 nice revolvers...the 627PC is a great gun period.
One point about revolvers for self defence...you dont have to worry about a cartridge failing to extract or stove piping or double feeding Etc. etc. You pull the trigger and it will go bang ! A Corbon 38 Sp. +P is more than an adaquate rd. for saving your life.
I dont care for hammerless revolvers (or semi autos) but that airweight you have is like a hammerless with a hammer... NICE !
i recently found out that i am eligible to own a restricted firearm liscence (i live in canada btw) and am in the process of getting one...any suggestions for my first handgun? the barrel has to at least be 4.5 inches long and magasine capacity cannot be more than 10. i'm a big s&w revolver fan, and i'm no stranger to hunting bear, moose and similar large animals. i live in a very small community where the great outdoors is an atv or snowmobile away. what do you think?
Hey GunznGear how much does that S&W model 627 8 shot 357 magnum cost? i am looking to upgrade from my 38special and hear that 357 magnum's can shoot 38's?. Do you recommend this for home defense over a 38 special?
@SpiritSphere12 I bought my 627 back when Smith first introduced it, and I paid around $850.00. Smith has since added several different models, including ones that has light rail, tirtium sights, and scandium frames. I prefer 357mag over 38 special, for defensive purposes. the 125gr loads are excellent defensive loads. Glaser Safety Slug and Magsafe would be great choices also.
Yes, you can shoot both 357mag and 38 special in a 357mag revolver.
That Airweight revolver is not hammerless. It has a shrouded hammer.
Mr. GunznGear: Do you favor the 5" 627 over the 4" for target shooting and home defense? I can see you own a 5", but what do you think of the Pro Series 4"?
I have two SP 101's one in 3" and one in 2.25" and i just love them..very concealable, reliable and durable..i love revolvers.they don't jam and .they will get the job done too.and i think im gonna get another two like them.and a .357 will stop the B.S. no matter what nobody says
i'm about to recieve a used (but unfired according to the old man) 3' barrel armscor m200 .38 from my wife's grandpa. it's my first gun an i'm looking for reviews about it. do you know anybody who own one and how did they like it?
Amen, to that shoot your gun train with your gun no matter what type it is, I really like auto(Glocks,1911's) but I just love revolvers and carry the LCR 357 everyday.
I carry a 10 mm other times you can not get magnum rounds in a auto, their are many great choices for either one.
I think revolvers are the best choice for people who don't see themselves buying a bunch of guns.
1 Simple reason. Simplicity! A lot of people who may be a bit more ditzy then others may forget that theres 1 in the chamber in a semi auto when they drop the Magazine.
@FireArmsResQ Revolvers are great to teach new shooters. That's what I learned to shoot with. DA revolvers such as a J frame Smith take alot of training, and practice to shoot well though. the small grip, the long stiff trigger pull, and their light weight, makes them a little more of a challange. You can't beat their reliability though, not even Glock.....Gasp!!! Blasphemy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lord, I appologize. LOL
@frankgon4 Sounds like we followed a similar path, I went from the SP101 to the sig 229. I have always liked Ruger revolvers, and I have owned many over the years. Thanks for sharing!
I bought my first handgun, going to get some training for it. Just wondering with a S&W model .38 special 64-8, it says to use +P ammunition on the barrel. Can I use about any grade of .38 special cartridge or should I just use what is specified on the barrel?
@NoPartyAffilliation S&W is letting you know that it is safe to shoot 38+p in your revolver. The standard 38 special is not as powerful and is also safe to use. Congrats on buying your first handgun! I hope someone is giving you some instruction on safety, and the basic mechanics of your gun and shooting. Welcome brother!!
Excellent video. Revolvers are often overlooked today. About 6 months ago I received a free sample self defense CD. After 45min of someone describing all the great features of the new semi-atuo pistols the person in the video then points out an old J frame Smith snubby on the display table. He then goes on to say it is his everyday ccw. Wow, he confirmed what I already knew. Simplicity (no fumbling for what makes it work) and reliability (bang everytime-no stove pipes, no dropped mags). Huh.
S&W is all reliability, 357mag with 8 rounds is more than plenty, the round seems to be underestimated. I own a model 627 it is very accurate and i would take this over Glock or beretta anyday. 357, or a 44 mag! 9mm is trash id rather have that 38 special over a 9 mm hands down. fugget about it.
I want the Glock, lol. I just hate how thick the cylinders are for CCW. That, and I tend to really burn through ammo! Sadly, I'm all thumbs and if I had to reload a revolver I'd be screwed.
Just out of curiousity, what is that blue back ground you're reviewing on? Makes for a really nice contrast against the revolvers.
Also, that whole "357 one shot stop" thing is total BS. Marshal and Sanow flubbed the data, I'll send you the link where their book is ripped to shreds by Dr Fackler

Should we always buy American made revolver like S&W, Ruger, or Colt and skip the foreign imports like Taurus, Rossi, etc. ?

@Search4diabetescure I've had great luck with Colt, S&W and Ruger, but not so much with Taurus. I've never owned a Rossi

My CCW instructor was a snooze, but he did say one thing that resonates deeply. "Their is no such thing as a missed shot. That bullet's going to hit something." Amen to that.

@bmwnasher I thought the U.K. allowed non military caliber weapons to be owned by the people? .380 being the largest auto you could legally own since the 9mm is the NATO standard?
vulpixgrant 1 month ago
@vulpixgrant As far a im am aware you can`t get a firearm certificate for any handgun in the UK. Even high power Air rifles need a firearm cetificate. Game keepers rifles are only 3 shot . Shotguns are allowed with a licence but not auto or pump. We have the most strict gun laws in the world.
bmwnasher 1 month ago

No thanks, either give me a revolver or a semi auto with more modern features!

you have to be efficient with your gun, a 6-shot 38 is adequate. especially if you practice with it. i dont see a 38 revolver being out gunned unless your in a freaking war against ak's and m4's.
yocam420 2 months ago
@yocam420 Absolutely!! Thanks
GunznGear 2 months ago
They're useless these days! criminals travel in 8 to 10 people per attack, and even if you hit all 5 or 6 of your targets you got at least 2 more to go and your already out of ammo. Not to mention the fact that you have an extremely heavy trigger pull if you don't take the time to cock the hammer before each shot. I know that it will never jam, but I know every round in a semi auto has no chance of not firing from the cartridge already being fired. my empties fly out. revolvers make you do it!
FrogMike81 2 months ago
@FrogMike81 I like my semi autos, but I have to say that revolvers still are very effective defensive firearms. If 8 to 10 folks are going to attack you from typical self defense ranges (21 feet and closer) then you're going to have a bad day no matter what you have. I would surmise that in most cases that once you start shooting holes in a couple of them, the others might start rethinking their intentions.
GunznGear 2 months ago
@FrogMike81 I would have been much more likely to agree before the extractor on my "great" and expensive Kahr K9 broke. I'll never trust that gun again, and trusting any semi-auto will be difficult.

@FrogMike81 Wow what video games are you playing? Or where do you live that 8 to 10 people attack you? Or what do you think you will be in where you will have to attack 8 to 10 people? Hell even a Glock with a 30 round clip is a bad choice against that many people, you need an AK or M4 sir. As a hired executive protection in South Africa and Mexico, I always carried a revolver, and if we thought 8-10 could have attacked the VIP we carried WAY bigger things.
myloveforMMA 2 months ago
@myloveforMMA Its no video game sir! Its called gang violence around the perimeter of downtown Birmingham and the inner city area. As a young white dude, I seem to look like a good target for life threatening muggings and whatever else they want to get done that day. I would Carry an ak, but the boys in blue wouldn't take to kindly to it. I guess a draco AK pistol would work, but I don't want to wear clothes bulky enough to conceal it all time. Its been getting bad the past couple of years
FrogMike81 2 months ago
@FrogMike81 Well I still think that a revolver will suffice, and it will force you to pick your shots, and I am sorry, I know how it is to be light-skinned in the ghettos of the Cities, I live in Los Angeles ha :) But if it concerns you that much, I'd carry a Glock in 9mm or a "Five Seven" handgun, and don't forget to carry a knife, trust me.
myloveforMMA 2 months ago
@myloveforMMA So you'd rather me carry a nine than a Glock21 45acp and a back up mag that holds 30rds?
FrogMike81 2 months ago
@FrogMike81 If you don't mind all that bulkiness all the time than go for it, I like wearing tight clothing (skinny jeans too DONT JUDGE ME ) lol so yeah I don't like carrying big mags or big handguns, to be honest I carry a small boot knife and a small 5 shot 357 revolver. I don't plan on sticking around to shoot at 8-10 guys shooting at me, and I doubt that would happen, and if it happened by surprise I am pretty much screwed, and if I knew about it before hand I'd have my M4
myloveforMMA 2 months ago
@FrogMike81 I carry a ruger gp100 .357 with the 3inch barrel & I keep 4 speedloader pouches on my belt giving me a total of 30 rounds of 125gr. JHP .357. So yes, a revolver can handle 8-10 attackers.
skelator357 2 months ago
@skelator357 Thats great as long as you're comfortable with carrying that all the time, and have a quick reload time even when in trouble.
FrogMike81 2 months ago
personally i t think a 38 or 357 are best. Imma good shooter so i dont need a clip with 10+ rounds.
realdeal119 3 months ago
@realdeal119 they jam cause of the weak wrist you have, and what will you do when the average group of ten assailants come to rob and kill you and your family?

94boxen 4 months ago
I agree the the Revolver is a VERY good choice for home defence. in home the shots are going to be short range, 15 to 20 ft. revolvers dont jam -and if it dosent go bang just pull the trigger again. a 38 is a big bullet when you shoot at damn near point blank range and makes intruders just as dead as anything dirty harry would carry. Im a big fan of the hammerles 38, easy to use, even half asleep, and dosent get all hung up or snagged in clothing.
DmakAttack 5 months ago
@DmakAttack Revolvers can have mechanical malfunctions that can't be fixed by pulling the trigger again.
esh325 4 months ago
@esh325 so can semi-autos. revolvers are better if you have a dud round, in a revolver if you have a round not go off just cock the hammer back or if you have a double action revolver pull the trigger. in a semi auto, well sorry mate. your screwed. id rather have a revolver over a auto any day. more firepower and damn near impossible to break, unless its a rohm(they are trash)
MASTERBLASTER118 4 months ago
@MASTERBLASTER118 True. More firepower? How?
esh325 4 months ago
@esh325 357 mag, 38 special, most your typical revolver rounds are twice or even three times as big as a 9mm, .380acp .32acp your typical auto ammunition that is used. the 357 mag is considered the best man stopper out there, in the right round there is plenty of expansion with no over penetration.
MASTERBLASTER118 4 months ago
@MASTERBLASTER118 In terms of diameter, they are about the same. The 9mm is .36 caliber. The .357 magnum is .38 caliber. The .38 special is inferior to the 9mm in my opinion, but the .357 magnum is more powerful then the 9mm. Good 9mm JHP's expand and penetrate pretty well. I still would take the 9mm autoloader over the revolver.
esh325 4 months ago
@esh325 just wondering, why do you consider the .38 spl inferior to the 9mm?
MASTERBLASTER118 4 months ago
@MASTERBLASTER118 The ballistics are weaker. 110 gr (7.1 g) JHP 980 ft/s .38 special vs 9mm 7.45 g (115.0 gr) FMJ 390 m/s (1,300 ft/s
esh325 4 months ago
@esh325 well numbers dont lie, but i wouldn't call the .38 inferior, it does the same thing as the 9mm does, maybe a little slower but it gets the job done, after all it brings you home to your family and that's what counts. i do see your point on the auto, i carry a 357sig on my patrols, and i swear by it. it has saved my life a few times and thats what matters.
MASTERBLASTER118 4 months ago
@MASTERBLASTER118 True, the .38 will get the job done. I like revolvers, but I just think somebody with a decent level of experience in firearms would be better served with an autoloader then a revolver. It is no mistake that Police and militaries around the world dropped their revolvers for autoloaders. From an armorers standpoint, a revolver is much harder to work on and replace parts.
esh325 4 months ago
@esh325 yeah, your right about that, revolvers are more complicated because of more parts have to work in unison, and i hate having to fix a revolver, its just a pain in the ass. but so are auto's they all have there problems.
MASTERBLASTER118 4 months ago
@esh325 @esh325 well there is NO doubt a 38 is a larger bullet with a larger case.
TheVert1276 3 months ago
@TheVert1276 For what the 9mm is, a little bit of ballistic advantage a .38 might have in handloads doesn't mean a lot.
esh325 3 months ago
@MASTERBLASTER118 If you get quality defense ammo, it shouldn't happen though. And if a dud does happen, I still have like 17 rounds vs 6 of a revolver.
esh325 4 months ago
@esh325 i have had police training, so in my line of work they require you to be able to hit your target from up to 25 yards away, its all about shot placement. most civilians confrontations occur within 3 to 7 yards, its not that hard to hit a target at 7 yards, even with a snubby its still pretty easy. myself personally from the standpoint of a officer, i would rather have one good powerful round knock a guy flat on his ass than have to pump him full. just my beliefs though.
MASTERBLASTER118 4 months ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@MASTERBLASTER118 " i would rather have one good powerful round knock a guy flat on his ass than have to pump him full. just my beliefs though." One can't really use that argument anymore for the revolver. We have .357 Sig,.45 acp, and 10mm anyways. That knockdown advantage is not unique to the revolver anymore. A smith just can't get beat a Glock in .357 sig which can hold 17 rounds.

@GunznGear sorry for my lack off knoledge on guns but what does double action mean and what is the difference between double and single?
ThatWhiteGuy97 6 months ago
@ThatWhiteGuy97 A single action revolver can only be fired by pulling back the hammer until it locks, and pulling the trigger. A double action revolver can be fired by the same method as the single action, and it can also be fired by only pulling the trigger. 2 ways to fire, hence double action.

One thing I'll say. If I only have five shots I want 500 magnum. Dead serious. Revolvers are IMPOSSIBLE to reload under pressure when you have a bad guy 7 feet away from you. Two or three revolvers incase the primary runs empty is an option
VinnyS914 9 months ago
@VinnyS914 If an attacker is at 7' and closing, you will not be able to reload a semi auto either. From training courses I've taken, I've learned at close distances such as that, it will be all you can do to just draw your firearm before the attacker is on top of you. Solid hits from an effective caliber with good ammo is much more important than capacity.
GunznGear 9 months ago
@GunznGear True but as much as I love revolvers I'll say flat out that a semi auto will have more rounds to throw before it goes cold. Good home defense revolver would hold 7-8 rounds
VinnyS914 9 months ago
Ver good vid. I enjoyed it. Have you heard of the S/W model 60? What do you think about its recoil as compared to others?
roldans99 9 months ago
@roldans99 Well, I know it's a 5 shot J frame chambered in 357mag and/or 38spcl. I think it was Smiths first revolver originally produced in stainless. I used to have a 38spcl version w/ a 3"barrel. If you have the 357mag version it's going to recoil a bit b/c it's a small frame gun, but it wouldn't be as bad as some guns made with scandium or titanium in the same chambering.
GunznGear 9 months ago
very informative!it's true the.45 acp is not the messiah of all ammo sir,but you fail to note that penetration, and velocity factors between the 2 rds makes the .357 less predictable, being it could end up anywhere after passing through the primary target.footnote on the hammer shroud is it was basically invented so the gun can be fired from inside the pocket without catching on clothing up close and personal, utilizing the short belly to belly barrel, hence the term"belly-gun".//later dude, good vid
nodillinger 10 months ago
@nodillinger Thanks for your comment. Over penetration is a danger w/ many calibers, and should be considered especially choosing which load to use. To my knowledge, the 45acp may be the best when comparing FMJ rds but with the variety of ammo available today, some 45acp loads may also over penetrate. One reason the 125gr jhp in 357 is so revered is b/c of it's lack of over penetration. On the other hand, a LEO friend of mine told me of a shooting w/ 45acp 200gr jhp left baseball size exit holes!
GunznGear 10 months ago
@GunznGear i concur but we're talking apples and oranges at this point i think these things start to become statistical abstractions .357 is a great round,i once owned a ruger security 6,it shot just fine.a rd that nearly relegated the .38 super to the history books has to to have some good ballistics i've narrowed my.357/.38 shooting to an old imi timberwolf pump-action rifle, wish i could find 1 in .44mag.i thought the shrouded gun info was more trivially entertaining though historically adios
nodillinger 10 months ago
@nodillinger The subject of over penetration is not given enough thought by most. I fear, as the numbers of CCW holders increase, there will also be an increase of good, law abiding citizens caught up in the tangled web of law. I endeavor to address comments concisely. OP, and the liability that insues, is a legitimate issue. I also wanted to raise awareness of this subject, to others who may read our conversation, and orate a couple of myths concerning both 45 and 357.

@nodillinger Over the years, I've owned several lever guns chambered in 45-70. I am a fan of the big slow thumpers!! That fondness is mainly from the perspective of hunting in thick cover. I have a question for you, what in your opinion is a good .357/.38+p combo revolver for defensive use. Preferably not a belly gun. Also a small comment about what you said about .357 round and somebody told me this at one time. "It may not kill them but they will quickly learn you have a problem with whatever they are attempting to do".
theduke256 11 months ago
@theduke256 You said defensive use, I seperate my defensive handguns into 3 catagories: CCW, back up, and other. 3 companies that make excellent revolvers that I own are: Ruger, S&W, and Taurus. For CCW, I prefer a 3" gun in a sturdy medium frame like the Ruger SP101, or a Taurus. Back up guns, I like the lightweights from S&W, and Taurus. The other group is bigger guns when concealability is not a concern, I like the larger S&W's and Ruger GP100. S&W686 and Ruger GP100 are all around favorites

NICE !

@bigbluesparky Thanks for your comment! I know semi autos are popular, but there is nothing wrong a good revolver.

i recently found out that i am eligible to own a restricted firearm liscence (i live in canada btw) and am in the process of getting one...any suggestions for my first handgun? the barrel has to at least be 4.5 inches long and magasine capacity cannot be more than 10. i'm a big s&w revolver fan, and i'm no stranger to hunting bear, moose and similar large animals. i live in a very small community where the great outdoors is an atv or snowmobile away. what do you think?
sonhighguy 1 year ago
@sonhighguy If i were you, i would go with a .45 acp 1911 . Its got a 5" barrel, they come standard with 7 or 8 round magazines, and its reliable.
Not to mention it can function pretty well in many roles.

Hey GunznGear how much does that S&W model 627 8 shot 357 magnum cost? i am looking to upgrade from my 38special and hear that 357 magnum's can shoot 38's?. Do you recommend this for home defense over a 38 special?
SpiritSphere12 1 year ago
@SpiritSphere12 I bought my 627 back when Smith first introduced it, and I paid around $850.00. Smith has since added several different models, including ones that has light rail, tirtium sights, and scandium frames. I prefer 357mag over 38 special, for defensive purposes. the 125gr loads are excellent defensive loads. Glaser Safety Slug and Magsafe would be great choices also.
Yes, you can shoot both 357mag and 38 special in a 357mag revolver.

The hammerless revolvers look terrible to me, kind of like the butterface of the revolver world.
Wabaanimkii 1 year ago
@Wabaanimkii I have to agree with you on that point! Thanks
GunznGear 1 year ago
@Wabaanimkii
That Airweight revolver is not hammerless. It has a shrouded hammer.
Mr. GunznGear: Do you favor the 5" 627 over the 4" for target shooting and home defense? I can see you own a 5", but what do you think of the Pro Series 4"?

Revolvers are great!! I really like my SP101, Thanks!
GunznGear 1 year ago
I have two SP 101's one in 3" and one in 2.25" and i just love them..very concealable, reliable and durable..i love revolvers.they don't jam and .they will get the job done too.and i think im gonna get another two like them.and a .357 will stop the B.S. no matter what nobody says

@SupremeAmerican I don't think either party would like me; I have a low tolerence for B.S.

@GunznGear Nah. U'd be a breath of fresh air for both parties.

Amen, to that shoot your gun train with your gun no matter what type it is, I really like auto(Glocks,1911's) but I just love revolvers and carry the LCR 357 everyday.
I carry a 10 mm other times you can not get magnum rounds in a auto, their are many great choices for either one.
CDMJDMHHC 1 year ago
@CDMJDMHHC Training and propper instruction are extremely important. I love the 10mm, it's a great chambering. Thanks
GunznGear 1 year ago
a revolver has one major tactical advantage... it will never jam. That's something not even the Glock guys can say
laxstar21 1 year ago 2
I think revolvers are the best choice for people who don't see themselves buying a bunch of guns.
1 Simple reason. Simplicity! A lot of people who may be a bit more ditzy then others may forget that theres 1 in the chamber in a semi auto when they drop the Magazine.
FireArmsResQ 1 year ago
@FireArmsResQ Revolvers are great to teach new shooters. That's what I learned to shoot with. DA revolvers such as a J frame Smith take alot of training, and practice to shoot well though. the small grip, the long stiff trigger pull, and their light weight, makes them a little more of a challange. You can't beat their reliability though, not even Glock.....Gasp!!! Blasphemy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lord, I appologize. LOL

My first conceal carry was a Ruger SP101 with 3 inch barrel. Later on, I transitioned to a Sig P239.
I still carry the revolver today from time to time.
I liked the SP101 so much, I purchased a GP100 and then later a Super Redhawk. I do like that look of the 627 that you are showing.
frankgon4 1 year ago
@frankgon4 Sounds like we followed a similar path, I went from the SP101 to the sig 229. I have always liked Ruger revolvers, and I have owned many over the years. Thanks for sharing!

I bought my first handgun, going to get some training for it. Just wondering with a S&W model .38 special 64-8, it says to use +P ammunition on the barrel. Can I use about any grade of .38 special cartridge or should I just use what is specified on the barrel?
NoPartyAffilliation 1 year ago

Huh.
bluedial2 1 year ago
