Shoot the fcuking band! Please stop trying to make it contemporary. Go back to the style you had "A L'Olympia". Unplugged with good backing singers. Every modern video of Stivell makes me want to hit something
Better shoot yourself!! Alan Stivell is a genius! It really doesn't matter, if he does it old style or modern, he can handle everything. He keeps the great Breton music alive forever. But one will always find some nerds, who just aren't capable of understandfing Stivell.
@Pierre696969 "Shoot the fcucking band" wasn't meant literally. It's an expression used (often jokingly!) in english speaking countries. I have listened to Stivell since 1980 and consider him a genius and a gentleman.
I feel that the other musicians in this video (NOT Alan Stivell!) are inadequate and unable to interpret his music appropriately.
but he knows how to play the bagpipe? ... here it looks like he has a cat under the arms crying... he doesnt keep the rythm with the drums... but the band I like...
It seems that one half of the Celtic nations (Scotland, Ireland, and Brittany) use bagpipes, and the other half (Wales, Cornwall, and the Isle of Man) do not use it. I would really expect it to be used in the Isle of Man, though, as it is a Gaelic country too just like sister nations of Scotland and Ireland. Well, overall, I greatly appreciate Celtic culture, and am currently learning Manx. I fell in love with ot and have been teaching myself the language ever since.
There are Cornish bagpipes which are undergoing a revival and Welsh but you are right, no Manx. There are also Northumbrian pipes in England. Great you're learning Manx!
therea re pipes all over europe. historically most countries from the middle east westward had some form of wind instrument with a bag and reeds. nowadays they are still played in bulgaria, poland, serbia and many other countries
Have heard this piece with fiddles instead of bagpipe , but this one rocks too. In Sweden Stivell´s last album was voted ´Best Record All Categories´ . So the man is quite well-known and well liked even outside ´the Celtic Fringe´.
Look at www.alan-stivell.com where upcoming gigs are listed. Over the next year or so he is only planning to play in Brittany. It's about time he played in the UK again! Have seen him 4 times at various points in the past and is well worth catching.
This is perfectly awful. It might have been good with just the pipes and an acoustic guitar.

the only problem with this video is the sound mix; less volume on the band and no one gets shot! 52ilyas

The tune he's playing is the Scottish reel "John Morrison of Assynt House." Though an usual approach, he made it enjoyable to listen to!

Wow, he makes it look so effortless. I heard that playing the veuze, bombarde, binioù takes a lot of breath.
