Dude ur just messed up man sayin random stuff how is Trevor Linden messed up when he scored 30 goals as a rookie and lead the Canucks to there 2nd stanley cup finals
I was at that game behind that very net. Loved it. One of the most intense games I've seen in Vancouver and this is the team that made Hockey popular again here. Started the snow ball effect. Before this season, they were sometimes only getting 6 or 7 thousand a game. 11 and 12,000 fans was a success it seemd. But I believe after this year, they started coming back.
@MovieManiac33 In the 80's,it seemed the Vancouver Canucks weren't even on the NHL map at all with the exception of this 1988-89 team and the '82 Cup Final run.One of my friends told me the other day he was there in '82 and the Pacific Coliseum was as quiet as a mouse during the regular season before that magical run.
Yeah that's right. It was only around this time when the fans started coming a bit. Before '89 it was normal to see 8 -10 thousand people at the Colasium unless big names like the Oilers or Flyers were in town when you'd see 13 or 14 thousand show up. Even more for the Habs when half the place was cheering for Montreal lol. But during the 88-89 season I did notice about a 3 thousand person increase on average as I'd keep my eyes on the attendance alot in the paper back then.
A RedWings fan in this generation laughs at the thought, but there was a long time even in Detroit that the Red Wings couldn't draw moths to the Joe Louis Arena. The same applied during the final days at the Olympia.
And actually I hve been a Canuck fan my entire life, and i havent seen a goalie who cares less about his team and more about himself than Luongo. He is a tool... Great Goalie, Complete tool.
This was the day I was born!

Linden is a big reason fans started coming back. Then came Bure and the city was nuts.

Yeah, for most of the 80s, Vancouver was a horrible hockey town. Even for Canada Cup games in 1984 the rink was at best half empty.

You have clearly never played competitive sports then... NO professional athlete goes in to a game wanting to lose.

Welcome back for another season Captain. If all canucks emptied the tank in a playoff game like you do we would have cups to talk about.

How about the Game 1 overtime winner? Anyways, goaltending today is _so_ much better than it was back in '89 - this goal is an example of it.
dpludwig 4 years ago
The changes they made to hockey was suposed to open it up, and make it more exciting. I think the playoffs were way more exciting before.
