@905Toronto base imprezas and lancers are still awesome cars. Also when going from a lancer or impreza to an evo or sti there are massive differences in suspention, drivetrains ect. not to mention a ridiculous amount of engineering.

Derp derp, Dodge uses Mitsu turbos because they own more of Mitsu then mitsu does these days. They have for years. The 4g63 isnt some kind of modern marvel. It's fair to say it's a good motor. But no better then The SRT engine or a SR20det or a 3sgte. They all make great power when cash is dumped into them. However, The SRT responds so fluidly to mods it's hard to say its not on top of the game.

I know of many 60's - 70's cars that can outperform most any small cars. Check out the Goodguys Auto-x events where respectable cars attend or any of the Run to the _____ events... Modern suspension and drive train components work wonders...its what pro-touring is all about. I'd put money on it beating many cars on a road track.

I don't have videos of him but there may be some somewhere. Funny how people think a big 4 door car that lumbers around is fast on a small track. My car put out more power than every other car there and a lot more ft lbs The next closest there was a Porsche Boxster that did pretty well. I'm done with this arguing; just a neon.

First of all, if you really did have the WS6 package (Which my friend does, 1979 6.6 with the screaming eagle on the hood) you would have somewhere in the neighborhood of 210-220 hp stock. In 1979. So short of a total engine overhaul with new parts, which in turn would not make your car stock, you have about 50 less hp than an EVO VIII, with an extra 500 lbs to haul around the track... Unless the Evo driver was TERRIBLE
@ChiLAX1210 You asked what suspension mods I have...and that's stock with the WS6 setup. The car has a recently rebuilt 1970 Olds 455 in it that lays out a bit more power than the Pontiac 400 or Olds 403.

@Kenuwine24 Oh trust me, i know the 4g63 well. It's a monster lol. I was just saying displacement isnt everything. It helps when it comes to big numbers, but anything from 14-17 seconds in the 1/4 mile there's often a replacement for displacement.
i personally don't think that srt-4's look good w/o the wing on them...i think they look just like any other neon (although it may be much faster) but that's just my opinion...if you like it then that's cool.

@mentalm12 the turbo SS's are great. I test drove the S/C version and in third gear it seemed 'out of breath' compared to my SRT-4. Then 2 years later I test drove the turbo SS and was shocked at how much more power it had in the upper RPM's in third than the supercharged version. it is just too bad they weren't able to upgrade the exterior some but I understand what was going on with the platform at the time.

@stevenjazrawi Good comeback? Any engine with less than 6 cylinders is just dumb; but that's not the worst part because some small engines can't make good power. These are especially stupid because they're front wheel drive. And saying its cheap and easy to mod doesn't say much, that just means the owner is too poor to spend the money on something that's actually decent. All I see is a neon. A perfect car for a mother that has to drive 1 or 2 kids around that doesn't want a minivan.

Though they are quick as hell with little money. i just would hate to have one as a daily driver. Buy an STi or something of better quality if your looking for a turbo car

@gorefury STI sucks on gas, you would have to drive it like a 1996 neon in order to be happy with what 20mpg? lol I had a 04 STI, i know what i'm talking about. You get in alittle race on a full tank, and you tank is almost a quarter the way down..like in one street race? lol I can afford gas, but wasting gas like a truck for just alittle more power than a stock SRT4?
That's why the STI is gone..I don't regret it at all. . money went to more important things than another car.

@azdodgesrt4 I've got a few videos of my car, that autocross video may look a bit slow but I beat quite a few new Evo's and miatas with a slipping torque converter and tall gearing at the time.... Don't get pissed cause you have buyers remorse... @azdodgesrt4 Oh really? I was actually topping out at about 35 there. And if you think it can't handle starting checking out some pro-touring stuff. I know of many 60's - 70's cars that can outperform most any small cars. Check out the Goodguys Auto-x events where respectable cars attend or any of the Run to the _____ events... Modern suspension and drive train components work wonders...its what pro-touring is all about. I'd put money on it beating many cars on a road track.

@ChiLAX1210 At that time it was just stock with the WS6 package and terrible tires. And it was the newest Evo, the owner pretty much wanted to knock me out. I don't have videos of him but there may be some somewhere. Funny how people think a big 4 door car that lumbers around is fast on a small track. My car put out more power than every other car there and a lot more ft lbs The next closest there was a Porsche Boxster that did pretty well. I'm done with this arguing; just a neon.

@ShastyMcNastey Well, there is a lot wrong with what you are saying... First of all, if you really did have the WS6 package (Which my friend does, 1979 6.6 with the screaming eagle on the hood) you would have somewhere in the neighborhood of 210-220 hp stock. In 1979. So short of a total engine overhaul with new parts, which in turn would not make your car stock, you have about 50 less hp than an EVO VIII, with an extra 500 lbs to haul around the track... Unless the Evo driver was TERRIBLE

@ChiLAX1210 You asked what suspension mods I have...and that's stock with the WS6 setup. The car has a recently rebuilt 1970 Olds 455 in it that lays out a bit more power than the Pontiac 400 or Olds 403.

@Kenuwine24 Oh trust me, i know the 4g63 well. It's a monster lol. I was just saying displacement isnt everything. It helps when it comes to big numbers, but anything from 14-17 seconds in the 1/4 mile there's often a replacement for displacement.
Plus the 6g73 is a pretty bad engine haha.

@mentalm12 the turbo SS's are great. I test drove the S/C version and in third gear it seemed 'out of breath' compared to my SRT-4. Then 2 years later I test drove the turbo SS and was shocked at how much more power it had in the upper RPM's in third than the supercharged version. it is just too bad they weren't able to upgrade the exterior some but I understand what was going on with the platform at the time.
