Interesting. The only part I enojyed was the improv. Great execution there. The arrangement was too bland for me. I enjoy jazz and any song influenced by jazz. I'm not a great trombonist in the least so my opinion doesn't really matter.

Paul, are you familiar with the old LP (I think it's from the late 1970's or so) called "21 Trombones?" There are 5 parts tutti (a4 each line) + Urbie Green on lead. It is a wonderful collection of tones, great arrangements, and played incredibly well by some of the greatest bone players out there--from Will Bradley to JJ Johnson, etc. Try and find LP or transcription on CD-you would get a huge kick out ot it and some inspiration to push you and your writing/playing further along! Best Luck!

@callmeBe oh yes that is a wonderful album. Phil Wilson gave me a copy of it. There are a couple other ones out there like that too. East vs. West, Carl Fontanas Cleveland Express, cream of the crop and of course one of my favorites "lloyd ulyate and his trombones!!" " Paul, with all your hard efforts I hope you are spending some time doing some score reading (both jazz and classical)--that is, going back and forth between scores and their recordings and also--MOST IMPORTANT-- reducing some of those scored parts down into their original piano form. Some music theory classes would be in order , too. Know that the best music always comes off the piano first ,and then is instrument assigned! Regards!
