It makes council estates unpopular (as the projects are in the US) in the UK because the good houses are sold off by 'right to buy' (without council housing my family would've been on the street when I was born but they support right to buy because we'd still be in a council estate without it...not enough respect for the more important earlier part!) so they can have the political capital to get rid of council housing completely (my grandparents are those 'older folk still living there')
Hell my uncles are all living in council houses too - while thatcher sold a lot of the housing stock, we still have many 30-50 year old working class folk living there, it's not all criminals and druggies...but it will be sooner or later. I can't believe I didn't see this before! I learned something about Australia and England today, thanks for this video. Sorry Blair poisoned your party too :(
Attacking their base, getting deja vu from Clegg, Brown, Blair, Clinton and Obama.
You actually put 'australian' in the name of your party? doesn't the fact that you're in australia and the context differentiate it like it does in the UK?
Do you have something analogous to the Thatcherite 'right to buy' scheme if you've heard of that? Letting private companies do things for the state always leads to inefficiency.
Equality and freedom are both means to the end of efficiency IMO
We don't need that many university educated people - trying to force everyone to go to university is what caused university to need to be paid for. We need equal opportunity, and to push people to make as much of themselves as they can, while at the same time giving everyone everything they need and making sure a hard day's work is worth it and all they need to live a descent life.
I agree,The reason im not voting Labor ever again is because of what they did to our cattle industry with a knee jerk reaction, They gave away hundereds of hectars of land in NSW for $1.00 to a mining company. They blew the supplus, And i take into account the Bush fire desaster in NSW and Victoria and the floods in QLD. Also the fact that it was a hung parlament. I do not like Tony Abbot at all in fact i think hes a wanker but i think the liberal party is definetly looking better.
