  • good stuff van how about info on your cymbals ie make size model thanks

  • its called a scrap tenors on drumlines use them the most.

  • i will say it on my account

  • It's a shame drummers with this amount of talent don't get the world stage more often. Good tips and technique! I've been playing for 25+ years, and kick myself for not drilling the basic rudiments more when I was younger. P.S. Love your flip stick video!

  • Ok I've seen the videos from when you were a kid playing on a set just as monstrous, if not more, than what you play in these videos, but what did you START out with?

  • My brothers 5 piece Ludwig Classic. Check out the photos on my website.

  • Honestly, I do this "technique" often, by accident. I thought it was just my 8 month old ineptitude showing by not being able to do 32nd and "ruff"-type licks from one tom to my snare or other drum or what have you. But if it's really a technique, I can't argue with you. I just discovered you and I can't stop watching. Thanks. NOBODY INSULT THIS GUY!!!

  • Thank you good sir, for making Youtube worthwhile. Like panning for gold in a dung river, I found you, shining amidst all the waste....

  • hmmm ok interesting..

  • im sorry i must be retarded or whatever but why do they call it the tom swipe.

  • I have no clue. I don't know what anyone calls it. I just named it something fun. Ya got a better name for it? That's cool. Ha Ha. RVP

  • It's probably because he swipes at one tom before it bounces onto the other?

    Just a thought.

Love the videos by the way, tried this technique out a few weeks ago. :)

  • Wow gonna try that out now

  • I think that this sounds really cool with a swiss triplet pattern, because the snare keeps going the whole time.

  • Can you go over a triplet fill-two hand hits then a bass drum--this is seen in "ASSASSIN" by Muse, just wondering how that all works! thanks man!

  • Check out my John Bonham Triplets video on my Channel. That is all he is doing. RVP

  • Hey Van! your vids are awesome! I am just learning how to play, and you've been really helpful! Do you have a DVD out? if so, where can i buy it!!! Thanks again man

  • Not yet but I am collecting info from you (the Viewers) on what you would like to see on it. RVP

  • I would like to see you do some Latin rhythms like the group Santana does with "Oye Como Va" and "Black Magic Woman."

  • Randy, do you know how to play the theme song to "Hawaii Five-O"? If so, can you post a video of you playing it?

  • I would like to see you do some Latin rhythms on the drums like the group Santana does like "Oye Como Va" and "Black Magic Woman."

  • O.K. I've seen this done in the tornando drumming dvd

sounds super! Van u are the man! thankz so much!

  • when i do this my sticks often catch the rim and then bounce instead of a single stroke on the snare.. kinda like a buzz instead of a clean hit... sucks =[

  • Try and hit the tom closer to the center of the drum instead of close to the rim. When you come down on the snare you need to kinda swipe it or curve it back up to go to the tom again. Do it slow and work at it. It will come together. RVP

  • thanks man il keep trying the technique... love your videos there great help.. :D been playing about 7 months... nearly perfected first date by blink 182 lol ^^ pretty proud

  • Keep it up. RVP

  • A DVD or No DVD? I have had lots of requests for a DVD. If I produced one with the same quality as my Ripping Drummer video and with requests for lessons from you all, would you buy it? RVP

  • Central Florida. Thanks for the comments. RVP

  • where are you from? i'd be proud if i played with the style you play with

  • Actually I wasonly doing 1 hit with the left and the 2 on the right between the tom and snare. I will be posting a hand speed video. I have had a few requests. RVP

  • hehe yes, helpful stuff, im a brand new drummer and jsut looking around for some help =] thanks

  • thats so kool i been trying the stuff u say u r the best to watch not like the other people on this they just talk alot. be my drum teacher!! keep those videos coming i like it lots =)

  • very cooll...but i find that hard when with a basic starter kit...becuz the toms are a bit far since there mounted on the bass

  • You should be able to adjust them and get them lower and a bit closer. RVP
