I thought "the purpose" of US interference in Afghanistan and Iraq was pretty straight forward.

Occupation of both was necessary to attack Iran from both sides - a pincer style war. The collapse of Iran was necessary for the US to move up to the oil fields of Kazakstan - extending US control for a few more precious years, taking them from Russia/China, and to continue exploiting the energy needed to support the lifestyle Americans feel they are entitled.

Glad you see it too. My family comes from a long, long line of soldiers, and 6 signers of the Declaration of Independence. They fought family against family many times. Soldiers abhor war, but distain the effects of stalemate. Men and women are in constant conflict of priorities and thus, wars are propagated elsewhere to solve conflicts at home. Strange, I know, but the destruction of family occurs when people forget about historical trends.

We all should have clued in when Bush declaired his "war on terror". I knew then that to declair war on a state of mind such as terror is nothing more than a mind controle tactic.
