@Brasker Maybe, but why should I do that when I can listen to other music that I like? It would make more sense for me to put more effort into appreciating Road Salt if this style of music was totally new to me.
Pain Of Salvation (Daniel) is much more fluent songwriters than Dream Theatre. Unlike DT, all of their albums sound different and they progress. DT has always sounded the same. whatever on a technical level, I would rather hear a good song than a good solo.
The "Are you brave enough to leave me in control?" section is probably one of the most impressive sections I've ever seen played live. To sing and play like that simultaneously is just unbelievable!!!
did anyone ever notice (for example from 5:17 - 5:19) Daniel pulls off this strange vocal tone that's similar to an Elvis Presley tone? It's also present in the song Ashes from the 12:5 version.. It's really different, i wouldnt mind hearing him do that style more often
Ever notice? when it comes to Pain of Salvation, people usually forget the other instrumentalists, its always daniel, daniel daniel, lol not saying Daniel isnt awesome but the others are not any less either people! they have an amazing drummer too
@TheRandomChap People always give disproportionate attention to singers/guitarists compared to bass/keys/drums in a band. They're all ridiculously talented.
When it comes to Prog, I would have to disagree. For example, with Dream Theater, I would go as far and say that the singer, Labrie, gets by far the least attention.
However with PoS Daniel gets the most attention because he is basically PoS.
@Baustelle11 :: True! And I met hallgren at a show in january, and complimented him on his vocal abilities. He seemed genuinely pleased. I was lucky enough to see two POS shows in a week. One acoustic and one livewire stage performance
this was one of the first Pain of Salvation songs I ever heard, and immediately fell in love with them. I'm so glad they included this one on the DVD.
I really wonder why every single POS video on youtube features a BE-vs-other-albums, DT-vs-POS or a prog-in-general-vs-POS discussion in the comments...
I always thought that prog music lovers are open minded enough to accept the existance of other opinions.
Yeah.. Every single one of them. When they are not bashing Scarsick, theres the comparrison with other bands or other albums, like if that were possible. And there always hopeful idiots like ourselves who lose their time trying to point out for them that They're are losing theyre time doing so.
lol hey i LOVE DT but i have to admit this daniel guy is incredibly talented,, but DT and PoS are different kinds of talent no? DT is into very subtle time changes and helluva lot of melody thrown in with showing off when playing solos
POS is more into EXPRESSED rhythm shifts ,, everything is rhythm based, i mean, they're more of "we make the best sounding polyrhythms everrr"""
lol man DT isn't all wankery! they do have their moments of magic you know, barring some random senseless solos from Train of Thought, they're an incredible talented band, and their songwriting is spot on
POS and Dream theater are forgiven for being so self-indulgent cause, well, they make that sound GREAT! :P
the biggest difference is that PoS is writting music starting frem vocal melody (Daniel), DT though starts writting music from instruments (Petrucci) and you can here that very well.
I see your point but I don't agree with it. PoS it's not just about vocals, but more about songs and atmosphere than let's say riffs and technicality (?) like Dream Theater. I'm not saying Dream Theater is just about that, but they build up songs like that which makes them great in their way.
"better" is subjective no? we could keep arguing, speaking of melody, Opeth has gorgeous haunting melody too,, in fact Opeth's sense of melody among their heavier riffs is what sets them apart, a unique place in heavy metal
mastodon has a very unique sense of melody amidst all that aggression, i think its the hallmark of a good metal band to find the right balance between aggression, melody and wankery
@Unflexablegrace, I do agree to some extent, some are just too close minded in my opinion but there are plenty of fans who are not. 32nd notes at 200 bpm... lol... I'd love to see that seeing as it is impossible. :P

Vene , nobody cares about your opinion. Saying BE is BY FAR their best album is quite simply ludicrous. How can you compare the genious writing or Concrete Lake to the magnificant Remedy Lane or the epic Perfect element to BE ? you are clearly a douchebag, most likely a WOWtard too, hanging out in the basement of mummies house.
No, you fuck off. He said "To me, BE is BY FAR the best POS album." "To me" as in he can see that maybe others would have a different opinion.
And where do you get off calling the BE DVD pretentious? What exactly is pretentious about it? A band wants to do more live than just play their instruments, so that makes them assholes? Taking a concept to the stage is pretentious now? Do you think plays are pretentious too? You are ridiculous. Do you even know what pretentious means?
steve vai freak- i totally agree, total genious music all the way up to their masterpiece remedy lane, after that i couldnt dig it. the pretentious BE and the plain boring Scarsick too...but they said they were pissed off with SSick so hopefully they have gone back to their immense roots
BE is a masterpiece. And I'd like to invite everyone who disagrees to write a piece for orchestra (every instrument separate melodies and stuff) and band.
I agree. To me, BE is the best album of Pain of Salvation, and the live DVD they recorded with it is fantastic. The feeling and execution is just amazing

5:12 sounds like Sher and Elvis Presley taking over Daniels body for a short while! Great performance and top notch sound!

2:30 makes me think Daniel has 2 brains.
There's something weird about the DVD's production. It doesn't make me feel like watching it, despite the fact that I love this song.
