  • 5:12 sounds like Sher and Elvis Presley taking over Daniels body for a short while! Great performance and top notch sound!

  • 2:30 makes me think Daniel has 2 brains.

There's something weird about the DVD's production. It doesn't make me feel like watching it, despite the fact that I love this song.

  • @gullywoots Is it the guitar tone?

  • What the fuck happened to this band? They used to be so good... T_T

  • @ShredST I don't know what was up with the beginning. . . But the rest was good- and this is the first song off their first album.

  • @ShredST This song s off their first album, so you saying they used to be good means what exactly?

  • @Yrpffx21234 It means their older material is better than their newer material.

  • @ShredST I see. Not a fan of Road Salt?

  • @Yrpffx21234 I've only heard the sample for the first few tracks and I was immediately turned off.

  • @ShredST listen to it more times and you'll eventually like it

  • @Brasker Maybe, but why should I do that when I can listen to other music that I like? It would make more sense for me to put more effort into appreciating Road Salt if this style of music was totally new to me.

  • Pain Of Salvation (Daniel) is much more fluent songwriters than Dream Theatre. Unlike DT, all of their albums sound different and they progress. DT has always sounded the same. whatever on a technical level, I would rather hear a good song than a good solo.

  • IM NOT AFRAIIIDDD!!!!

  • Oh damn, can't take it anymore...

I'm off to buy that DVD, NOW.

  • The emotion conveyed in Pain of Salvation makes you forget about how technically able the musicians are.

That's what makes it so great IMO.

  • The "Are you brave enough to leave me in control?" section is probably one of the most impressive sections I've ever seen played live. To sing and play like that simultaneously is just unbelievable!!!

  • Anyone else think that a POS rock-opera would be the most epic thing ever?

  • @condemer2 They've done one. It's called Be, and it just about is the most epic thing ever

  • The dislikers ! FUCK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU !!!!!!!!!!

  • Title - Foreword not Foreward.

    Amazing song.

  • their vocal harmonies are so perfect i nearly jizz everytime lol

  • This is POS ! But I still missing Kristoffer! who is going to create another waking every god intro damn it

  • Mouth hit the floor at 5:15 :O

  • Geat DVD.

Watch my channel for a song of the new album Road Salt.

  • This live is maybe even better than the studio verison. Jesus, I love these guys!

  • 5:12 JIZZ

  • 2:30.... Wait, how did he?!..... Oh, thats right, he's Daniel Gildenlow!

  • I cant think of anything more amazing than this.

  • 5:13

    AMAZING !!

  • 5:17! :O sounds like cher or elvis, not like daniel indeet, interesting to hear those few seconds over and over again :D

  • haha johan has to frequently scurry back to his mic for his harmonies.

  • @edthehead83

I'm not sure which is more amusing. That he does, or that you were able to use scurry in a sentence. XD

  • Haha. He is a forgetful (but talented) vocalist!

  • did anyone ever notice (for example from 5:17 - 5:19) Daniel pulls off this strange vocal tone that's similar to an Elvis Presley tone? It's also present in the song Ashes from the 12:5 version.. It's really different, i wouldnt mind hearing him do that style more often

  • @x8lika8x I think the new albums suppose to have a lot more of that.

  • Ever notice? when it comes to Pain of Salvation, people usually forget the other instrumentalists, its always daniel, daniel daniel, lol not saying Daniel isnt awesome but the others are not any less either people! they have an amazing drummer too

  • totally agree..every single one of them is a great musician..about the drummer:inspiring talented and extremely underrated.

  • @TheRandomChap Had. He's a teacher now.

  • @TheRandomChap People always give disproportionate attention to singers/guitarists compared to bass/keys/drums in a band. They're all ridiculously talented.

  • @thesolo

When it comes to Prog, I would have to disagree. For example, with Dream Theater, I would go as far and say that the singer, Labrie, gets by far the least attention.

However with PoS Daniel gets the most attention because he is basically PoS.

  • @TheRandomChap you're right. amazing dummer, and amazing guitarist with AWESOME voical skills... they are (were?) perfect under any poin of view

  • @Baustelle11 :: True! And I met hallgren at a show in january, and complimented him on his vocal abilities. He seemed genuinely pleased. I was lucky enough to see two POS shows in a week. One acoustic and one livewire stage performance

  • @TheRandomChap Agreed for sure. Johan is a fantastic guitarist as well. Every member is just plain good.

  • @TheRandomChap Just like Opeth and Mikael Akerfeldt?

  • "are you brave enough to leave me in controoolll?" how did he guitar and sing that bit! damn!

  • exactly...that part's tough as hell man!!

  • That's what blown me away too...

  • this whole DVD is amazing. The songs are all better than on the actual albums

  • Finally got the DVD, shipping took WEEKS, lol totally worth it,, Pain of Salvation never cease to amaze

  • i fucking LLLLLLLOVE this band!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • TAKE A STAND!

  • "On a Stage like all your silly Idols do" !

  • gotta buy this dvd

  • the best live performance i've ever seen ...

and i've never seen anyone composing, producing, singing and playing like daniel o.0

    Absolutely AWESOME

  • Comment removed

  • He sings really well live, which is a welcome change to other acts.

  • goddamn this performance

  • bhai inhe koi india le aao

  • Gonna buy this DVD <3

  • this is pretty demonic. finally a good quality dvd of POS's non BE music lol.

  • Fuck, I need to buy this DVD.

  • Love this song!

Have no idea why they started it in C this time though..

    Any clues?

  • maybe because of Hallgren's solo, which is at ground on the neck... Ok, that was a crazy suggestion. No clue...

  • is !(foreword) man... beautiful song by the way

  • this was one of the first Pain of Salvation songs I ever heard, and immediately fell in love with them. I'm so glad they included this one on the DVD.

  • How on earth can he play this and sing at the same time?!

    Amazing.

  • cause he's daniel...need any other reason?

  • I really wonder why every single POS video on youtube features a BE-vs-other-albums, DT-vs-POS or a prog-in-general-vs-POS discussion in the comments...

I always thought that prog music lovers are open minded enough to accept the existance of other opinions.

  • Totally Agree!:D

  • Yeah.. Every single one of them. When they are not bashing Scarsick, theres the comparrison with other bands or other albums, like if that were possible. And there always hopeful idiots like ourselves who lose their time trying to point out for them that They're are losing theyre time doing so.

  • Actually, most DT fanboys are not open at all, if its not 32nd notes at 200 bpm and not a change of seasons, it's not good music, apparently. Rofl

  • heir apparently

  • Lol.

  • lol, true

  • lol hey i LOVE DT but i have to admit this daniel guy is incredibly talented,, but DT and PoS are different kinds of talent no? DT is into very subtle time changes and helluva lot of melody thrown in with showing off when playing solos

POS is more into EXPRESSED rhythm shifts ,, everything is rhythm based, i mean, they're more of "we make the best sounding polyrhythms everrr"""

    and of course, insane vocals

  • Heh it's either 'listen to me wank as fast as I can' or it's 'listen to me change time signature as melodically as we can'

    I totally agree

  • lol man DT isn't all wankery! they do have their moments of magic you know, barring some random senseless solos from Train of Thought, they're an incredible talented band, and their songwriting is spot on

POS and Dream theater are forgiven for being so self-indulgent cause, well, they make that sound GREAT! :P

  • the biggest difference is that PoS is writting music starting frem vocal melody (Daniel), DT though starts writting music from instruments (Petrucci) and you can here that very well.

    DT music is about instruments

    PoS music is about Vocal

Its on you which you'll pick up

for me both are amazing and equal thogh different

  • @perczyk

I see your point but I don't agree with it. PoS it's not just about vocals, but more about songs and atmosphere than let's say riffs and technicality (?) like Dream Theater. I'm not saying Dream Theater is just about that, but they build up songs like that which makes them great in their way.

  • I find that PoS have some gorgeous melodies.

    Most better than Dream Theater's.

  • "better" is subjective no? we could keep arguing, speaking of melody, Opeth has gorgeous haunting melody too,, in fact Opeth's sense of melody among their heavier riffs is what sets them apart, a unique place in heavy metal

mastodon has a very unique sense of melody amidst all that aggression, i think its the hallmark of a good metal band to find the right balance between aggression, melody and wankery

  • @TheRandomChap I think DT are most talented .. but this bamnd is really awersome but yeah your right.. and the signer sings pretty bad ass :O!..

  • wat? I think you're mistaking them with Rusty Cooley fanboys or generic bedroom shredders.

  • @Unflexablegrace, I do agree to some extent, some are just too close minded in my opinion but there are plenty of fans who are not. 32nd notes at 200 bpm... lol... I'd love to see that seeing as it is impossible. :P

  • No, you fuck off. He said "To me, BE is BY FAR the best POS album." "To me" as in he can see that maybe others would have a different opinion.

And where do you get off calling the BE DVD pretentious? What exactly is pretentious about it? A band wants to do more live than just play their instruments, so that makes them assholes? Taking a concept to the stage is pretentious now? Do you think plays are pretentious too? You are ridiculous. Do you even know what pretentious means?

  • i agree ravenspike.. i saw them in london and they were mindblowing! such a great gig, unlike the stage fag performance of "BE the musical"!

  • tell me the dvd BE was not pretentous... seriously... its ridiulous

  • I don't care about the DVD. To me, BE is BY FAR the best POS album. The DVD itself is not that bad either but I wouldn't say that I liked it.

  • Wow, more than 4 mins to make sure they had even a bass player! Amazing.

  • steve vai freak- i totally agree, total genious music all the way up to their masterpiece remedy lane, after that i couldnt dig it. the pretentious BE and the plain boring Scarsick too...but they said they were pissed off with SSick so hopefully they have gone back to their immense roots

  • "BE" pretentious?

I guess that eliminates the 1000's of highly respected books/music/art/knowledge for you... hmm... awesome.

  • BE is a masterpiece. And I'd like to invite everyone who disagrees to write a piece for orchestra (every instrument separate melodies and stuff) and band.

  • I agree. To me, BE is the best album of Pain of Salvation, and the live DVD they recorded with it is fantastic. The feeling and execution is just amazing

  • I hope their new album is better than scarsick ....

    still .. PoS kicks ass

  • mazi sou ellina

  • They are the best live band. I mean, they are nearly perfect at live performances. And in some ways, they are even better than on the CD

  • μιλαμε για μεγαλη μπαντα!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Qué bien, nunca había conocido un fan de PoS de México!

  • Man! I waited so long for this! This is so awsome! Best Band ever!

  • flip xiita

  • 5:14

    X_X

     O

    ZOMG!

  • I feel so great knowing all the PoS fans in the world have something like this to show friends, just like I'm doing

    :)

    :)

    :)

  • majestic performance!

  • Daniel Gildenlow is the hottest man on earth!!!! HAVE MY BABIES!!!

  • weird vocal thing Daniel's do at 1:50 =P

  • Sure, he's like the Kate Bush of metal. A male Kate Bush, that is. If that makes any sense.

  • It does, actually.
