One of the great things about digital vs film is auto iso. I use it usually when I'm shooting manual, and moving around in an area where the lighting varies SLIGHTLY, but I need to have a certain shutter speed (1/60) to not get blur. Auto iso helps make the exposures right.
I really like your reviews, also got the 7d and recently bought the 17-55mm f2.8 , somewhat on the basis of your review. But am getting increasingly depressed ! Finding that it's very little to do with the camera, lens or any skills of the photographer but totally to do with manipulation with Photoshop!!!
@coastem Photoshop is increasingly becoming important to some but I will never think it's more important than composition, exposure, and pure artistic ability. There is also a drive to shoot in some people. If we don't have that stuff photoshop will not do us any good. I have become fond of Lightroom 3 in the past few months I have to admit. I think it's made me better. Photoshop will help you get better end results. It's not everything.
Canon needs to stop adding so many pixels in their cameras. It affects low-light performance. Nikon still makes pro cameras with only 12 megapixels and nothing beats them for low-noise at high ISO settings.
@charvelgtrs I have to agree with that. The sensor in my 7D is good but they could have made it better with a lower pixel density in my opinion. I don't know how the 21 MP work......that's why they cost more I guess.
I think that while considering all of the elements that contribute to digital noise occurring in a photo, the first culprit is ones choice of ISO setting.. Lighting Conditions and lenses take second place. Set your own ISO,shoot in manual, know your cameras limitations and as you always say Nate,"practice ,practice", is the best advice for beginners to photography..Great insight as usual !
Hey I just bought a black rapid rs-7...pretty nice investment very very happy with it, just thought I'll recommend it to you just in case u were getting tired if the stock strap
The problem with iso test is they only show one image/type of image. Noise is not only effected by ISO, it also depends on the scene/tones in the image as well as exposure and the lens used. Auto ISO has its use but its best to learn by trying it in manual. Good Video Nate, keep up the good work. Rick
well dont buy DSLR if you can't understand how the 3 works together; ISO Aperture and Shutter-Speed. IMO. nate is the best for teaching these for beginners. Photography is fun when you know those stuff
@kookiemoose Hey moose. I have been very busy. I still shoot with the 7D and/or S95 every day without fail. I have some computer builds coming up. The parts for the first will be here this week. I am looking forward to building again.

does a low ISO increase the size of the image file? something i've always wondered about.
mickthepope 1 year ago
@mickthepope the ISO does nothing with the size of the image file ! it's always the same !
SuperKeyboarder 1 year ago
@mickthepope No it does not. ISO is mainly sensitivity of the sensor.

@rickjbradbury This is true Rick. It can be a lot more complicated than simply sensitivity. Thanks for the comment.

Manually adjusting ISO opens you up to more control of your camera.
