There is nothing wrong with Shiro or his owners. Watch your cat purr, the more they purr, the more you can see with their breathing. I think some people are overrating a bit towards Shiro's health, I certainly hope nothing is wrong with him, however, I have a perfectly healthy cat who always breathes very fast when he purrs, that's just how he is, it's not a health issue. Also, some cats have a much raspier sounding voice than other cats do. I think Shiro's owner took him to the vet? Hopefully he is OK.

I don't always agree with Shiro's owner. For example, putting objects on his head that seem too heavy to me and in this case, shoving Shiro back in front of the camera at 1:23 when the cat is in obvious distress and wanting help! Shiro's health is much more important than YouTube view counts any day!!!

I hope by the time I have posted this comment you will have taken Shiro to the vet for a serious checkup.

I've been using a translator page from a Google search. Japanese responses on Shiro's blog show that our concerns about his health have gotten attention ... apparently being conveyed to his owner, Mr. White? (perhaps the blog author). I also used Google translator to write a very short, but to the point message that Shiro doesn't seem well and should be taken to a vet immediately, noting fast breathing, and that purring can mean pain, too. Was a task creating an account to be able to comment! :)

Even before I read the comments, I too got worried that something may be wrong with Shiro. I am a cat owner, and my first instinct is that he is not feeling well. I hope you can give us some reassurrance soon that this is indeed normal behavior since he was a kitten, or that you had him checked out by a vet.

My cats sound like that when they are purring alot & their meows sound hoarse also, But if this is a new behavior of sounding like that, I agree, get him to the vet as soon as possible. I have read that cats will sometimes purr when in pain, what do you think the researchers did to cats to find that out?????? It makes me crazy to hear what " humans" do to animals in "research".
