i'm not saying Troy Smith is the future, but it would be interesting to see how he does with a full training camp under his belt. he joined the team in the middle of the season and, without getting more than maybe a week to get acclimated with the offense and his teammates, led them to two wins, including a thriller against the Rams.

consider they even elected to start Troy over Alex in their game in London. to pick a guy that's only played a couple of games over a former No. 1 pick is huge.

Alex Smith is too damn nice, and it seemed at times he was just willing to roll over and take a beating. The Seattle game in their opener is a great example. SF made a few early blunders, but they still had a chance to get back in it. Instead, Smith, and subsequently the team, got blown out.

As we know now basically, Smith will be back for another year. I feel for the guy, in the sense he was thrown to the dogs. He should not have been a starter his rookie year, we were in bad shape. But with that said, he had 6 seasons to do something, show some greatness. It has not happened. We see it in one game but not the next. Due to the lockout it is a logical choice to sign him for one year, but that is it. Maybe he will finally come around. Nothing wrong with keeping Colin on ice for a bit
