  • Thanks Marty, great lesson, been playing a lot of years, you just made me sound cool. Will practice!

  • Does anyone know what scales can be played over this progression? Been trying the B pentatonic but doesn't really work : (

  • @PanchoAndDrum try major pentatonic, and mixolydian (which means major pentatonic, but you still play the 'A' note, like in minor pentatonic, instead of A#).

to go further, learn the notes of each chord so you can play those (arpeggio) over the chords (especially with the passing chords).

  • I can play all the chordes but how does he make those chickity chicky sounds, it seems to be necessary to give the soong a rythmic style, i must knowww!

  • @adri6000100 release the pressure of the fingers on your fretting hand, so basically you're muting the strings. That and and good "swing" picking pattern with your right hand

  • whats the best guiter for a beginer

a electric or acoustic and what make ?

  • @X19supergirl95X

It depends on what music you want to play. The theory of all guitars is the same. The style you want to play is the big difference. Is it classic, so you will start with a classical guitar with nylon strings and stick to it. That´s also a good type of guitar even when you want to play at a (f.ex.) primary school-party. Earl Klugh plays Jazz with it. If you want to go for gypsy, jazz, flatpicking, unplugged renditions etc. you´ll take a guitars with steel-strings.

  • @X19supergirl95X Again: The chords and the theory around it are still the same. You´ll take an electric guitar when your goal is for ex. jazz, rock, 50th and so on. The chords itselfs are the same but sometimes supposed to be hold a bit differend (Powerchords). E-Guitarists are a bit lazy ;-) ... Conclusion: Most of all guitarists have (far) more than one guitar ;-))

  • @jrosmu When I buy a new guitar it always works fine, but then they go out of tune and I have to get another!

  • @mrkitsel do you seriously mean you buy a new guitar rather then tune it? or was that sarcastic? o_O

  • cool ... cool ... cool ... coolest tutorial ever \m/

  • You are a freakin clown!!! It's cool though!! lol, very helpful video!!! Prolly the best internet teacher out here... keep it up homie!!!

  • smooth ...very useful.Cheers Marty.

  • Wow i've been watching a couple of your videos and this one is my favorite. I've been playing for many many years now but I was having some kind of block in my learning. I think it's because I've learned playing by my self. I wanna learn more stuff like that. Been watching this video for 2 hours or so and I finally got it, i can play it like you I'm very pleased with myself because of you. You fkn rock dude!

  • my friend, you are one of the BEST youtube guitar teachers! Thanks for these videos!

  • marty! your the man love all your lessons

  • good

  • if you guys want to learn more of this kind of thing i would suggest checking out al di meola's book on "scales, chords and arpeggios", it gives so many chord substitutions for simple progressions like the I IV V

  • you are a very likable character!!!!!

  • dude that was brilliant the first part of this video what was that called lol like i love that shit man can u do a whoel video with you just jamming on that type of stuff ?

  • I have a suggestion for future lessons Marty! make little markers for where there is a point you want to get across or where the fingerings for the chords are shown so that we can just click right there and find em after viewing the lesson.

  • Marty is the fuckin man.... great teacher.

  • Thanks again! Just picked-up the guitar from a long time ago and your teaching method is tremendously patient and easy to follow. Keep up the good work! Marty rocks! ...and swings

  • cn i ask questions im so bored applying solo over the root cn u advice some tips how to use the scales 4 example in A harmonic minor i dont want to start in the root can i start in G#

  • this guy is a great teacher (:

  • Really like your stuff man!!!! Hi from Norway!

  • yes

  • I KNEW IT! I should have checked the Channel of figaz555, before I commented, because it seems we have the CLASSIC definition of "TROLL" on our hands! Anybody who goes around, and tries to be controversial, without having ANY videos of their own, is a COMPLETE asshole, in my book. They make antagonizing comments, without being able to back it up! Hey, asshole, let's hear what YOUR "tone" sounds like! WHERE are YOUR Music Videos? Come On, coward, TEACH US SOMETHING! No, you can't,,,now FUCK OFF.

  • Nice! Thanks for keeping it going in the end. Very cool chords.

  • Great! -i lean a lot of this....thanks!

  • Great! -i lean a lot of this....thanks!

  • Hey at 7:15 when he says "pinky just went down a half step", is that on the 1st and 2nd string it does down a half step? (Cause before you were barring both) Any reply is greatly appreciated. Thanks for the lesson marty, I'm ordering your DVD.

  • @MrApocalyte just the pinky

  • @andyallen02 Thanks man.

  • @MrApocalyte Nah man, actually you're not supposed to bar the 1st string. I think the video writing is wrong and you don't need to bar both strings... Because it would be weird, going from a major second to a minor second (would be a C# to a C). So in fact you only use the second string.

  • 07:09

  • yea you are the best guitar teacher on you tube by far and nice choice in how you play i love it i steal lots of your licks no joke haha

  • That's rad that you play a Heritage guitar. I've got one of their "Les Paul" models and love it.

  • Stoked to see you playing a Heritage guitar!

  • Really great tutor.

  • i really learnt a lot from you. thanks

  • sounding good ole'buddy keep up the jazzmatacks

  • Very nicely done... I really like his gradual progression from standard Blues chords to the Jazz chords... Really gives you a good perspective on how you get from one style to the other. Nice job Marty.

  • haha, dude, I have the fender hot rod deluxe too.

nice amp and nice lessons :)

  • My father was a Jazz guitarist & so growing up I was introduced to the "Professional Musicians" of his day (prior to 1965). This is to say that apart from the musicians skilset, there was an unwritten code of ethics the musician was expected to maintain. This standard produced what I would refer to as the "Gracious Musician". Very unassuming & humble. Marty would be a fine example & returns me to a time when it WAS about the music to the exclusion of all else. We're proud of you Marty!!!

  • MARTY!!!! :DDDD

  • Yeah, he really is an awesome guy. He seems so nice and just willing to try to share his talent for music with other people, just to help them. That is so nice and I appreciate it very much!

I'm a beginner and most of what I learn I learn through him!

Thank you Marty, you play great, you teach even better!

  • what guitar is that?

  • @arkavaine Looks to be a Heritage 535. Essentially the same as a Gibson 335.

  • u gotta be stoned during all of these lessons. i love it

  • great stuff, this helps for impromptu jam sessions

  • U R really a good teacher...good words good lines...

  • I really enjoyed this lesson, it really feels great to break from the norm and this is a great opportunity to advance as a musician. Thanks Marty!

PS - Can anyone recommend any good jazz guitar albums, or compilations?

  • damn... this is so cool - guess who's gonna jam on this tomorrow? :)

  • DRAGON FIRE SAUCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
