This was always the first song on my Blind Guardian mix when me and my friends used to play Morrowind all day long. We would just listen to Blind Guardian all day and play that shit. Such good times.
Since i listen to metal music i have forgotten the words trend and cool. To me it's just music and that helped me to search new genres and to appreciate a bit of everything. Blind Guardian are one of the best band of power metal !
I find the actual genre and style doesnt matter to me as much as feeling. Skalds and shadows has a certain 'epic' feel both in its design and in its execution that intensifies the emotions in the song

This only proves their legendary skill as musicians. That they can go from power and speed metal, and make something like this, is incredible. Blind guardian has been breaking trends for years, and now, they have done it again!
Perhaps the most unbelieveable and astonishing part about Blind Guardian, is that they are still pumping out albums. They must truely love what they do, and I don't blame them. It only hit me yesterday that they have been big for generations when my mom recognized who they were from the 80's.
Blind Guardian is definitely cool. Easily one of the best bands around right now. It's too bad you have to scour the internet for hours to find one band whose music is worth paying for.

I think it was more about how the Skalds were cast out and forgotten by the Christianisation of Scandinavia. Eventually, many of their stories were forgotten, and they were forced to stop their work.
They were poets, storytellers... they worked for kings, until the 13th century or so.

Humans are no threat to nature. Nature has been around for billions of years before we showed up, we'll barely be able to make a dent during our time here. Once humans are gone, nature will correct whatever damage we might have done, if what we are doing is indeed not natural. Either way, this is not a philosophical discussion, but a a venue to comment on a song. Personally, i think it's a very good song, goes to show that even in our modern world, good things can be created from old traditions.
I find it slightly amusing how many people decry humans as narrow-minded brutes who destroy nature. Interesting how those people base that entirely on the assumption that humans are outside of nature. Nature is evolution, and while basic instinct does not change, our behaviour has grown increasingly complex and intricate. What should be considered is that our manipulation of the "natural world" is as natural as that of any other animal.

Flutes ain't natural. Telling your grandchildren about a great warrior / king from a hundred years ago is not natural. If we went back to the "animal" nature of things, we'd just continue to rape (animals rape), murder (animals murder), and so on, except no-one would be punished for it.
I must point out my good sir, that animals does neither rape nor kill without a reason, unlike humans. Nature is far more just than human society. The only animals who have sex for pleasure are dolphins, and these are some of man's closest relatives. Flutes are more natural than elctric music, and warriors and kings are both seen in the animal kingdom as natural.

Sorry, but if this song makes you feel the need to post about how humanity has failed etc... you're getting the wrong meaning from the song.
I think it was more about how the Skalds were cast out and forgotten by the Christianisation of Scandinavia. Eventually, many of their stories were forgotten, and they were forced to stop their work.
They were poets, storytellers... they worked for kings, until the 13th century or so.
This song has nothing to do with modern man forgetting nature...

To expand: If you're going to bitch about humanity? Fine. But don't lie and make it look like modern day is so much worse than the past (Heads up: Coal plants are more radioactive than properly run Nuclear Plants), act as though nature is free of sin (Or would you like to read about the Dolphins that murder seals for shits?) and so on. Just enjoy the song, if it makes you happy be happy and if upset be upset. Don't lie about something just because you hate your own species.

Humans are no threat to nature. Nature has been around for billions of years before we showed up, we'll barely be able to make a dent during our time here. Once humans are gone, nature will correct whatever damage we might have done, if what we are doing is indeed not natural. Either way, this is not a philosophical discussion, but a a venue to comment on a song. Personally, i think it's a very good song, goes to show that even in our modern world, good things can be created from old traditions.

I find it slightly amusing how many people decry humans as narrow-minded brutes who destroy nature. Interesting how those people base that entirely on the assumption that humans are outside of nature. Nature is evolution, and while basic instinct does not change, our behaviour has grown increasingly complex and intricate. What should be considered is that our manipulation of the "natural world" is as natural as that of any other animal.

I dont believe we'll die out , but if you want the nature back and the earth pure and clean etc , not gonna happen. It would mean shutting down dozens of factories and i dont think employees will put up with that , plus many people would be unemployed , wich means they wont have any feet to stand on anymore (financial). All we can do , is do small things like put your garbage in a can and dont drop it. Or buy recyclable stuff...

Just felt like pointing out the humor in that if we chose to remain ignorant and simplistic, we'd have no Skalds or musical instruments.
Flutes ain't natural. Telling your grandchildren about a great warrior / king from a hundred years ago is not natural. If we went back to the "animal" nature of things, we'd just continue to rape (animals rape), murder (animals murder), and so on, except no-one would be punished for it.
But go on, weep about how things have changed.

I must point out my good sir, that animals does neither rape nor kill without a reason, unlike humans. Nature is far more just than human society. The only animals who have sex for pleasure are dolphins, and these are some of man's closest relatives. Flutes are more natural than elctric music, and warriors and kings are both seen in the animal kingdom as natural.

No one is denying advancement is a good thing (at least for the most part). Music is natural, and a love of music lead humans to create instruments (a good thing and natural, i.e. flute) Furthermore humans aspire to greatness, it is on our nature to be the absolute best. So telling you grandchildren great tales of warriors or kings can only be a good thing. Because they aspire to that level of recognition. (which can only be good). No matter how far we advance there will always be rapeandmurder
