I hated the use of handheld digital camera in this film!!! I could totally tell the whole time, and it took me right out of the movie! I could go into great detail on the subject of why I believe film is much better, but I won't! All I'll say is that I like my movies to look like movies, not like crappy t.v. reality shows or independent documentaries! For me, it kinda ruins most of the action scenes, which I think would've looked phenomenal if they'd been filmed in more traditional ways!

I really enjoyed this film. Both Johnny Depp and Christian Bale were great in it. Not only was the story great but I really enjoyed the way they filmed it. I agree that it's pretty long but that doesn't take away from the film. It still feels like a fast-paced movie at times due to the acting and crime scenes. Another movie, Viva Riva, is similar in that nature. I actually really liked Viva Riva, and think you should do a review of it. vivarivamovie. com

I heard a lot of negative shit about this movie then I actually got round to watching it.I thought it was first rate, great performances all round especially from Depp as John Dillinger and Cotilliard as the love interest.Mann got the feel and look of the era just right and delivered a cracking movie.

i loved the movie but Dillinger is too likeable to be an interesting gangster(he's not really menacing) and the movie is too focused on Dillinger.

Purvis is interesting as "pitbull in a suit" tortured but we didn't see him many times in screen.

Frechette is charming but Cotillard hasn't many thing to act

This movie doesn't hide the fact it uses a HD digital camera to film its scenes. Honestly, at one point of the movie, I thought I was watching a badly calibrated Blu-Ray movie from Best Buy. It was really hurting to the eyes.

Also, The movie moved ever so slowly. So many scenes were extremely unnecessary, but were just put in to increase run time and fool people into thinking this movie was going to be epic. This film was insanely screaming "Oscar, Oscar" for all the wrong reasons.

Something else i would like to add about the movie, is that in real life, their were several very exciting and cool fight scenes that the director left out in the movie.

also, several things in the movie were made up, such as when baby face nelsons dies when they are at the motel. in reality, Nelson survived this fight, and lived for a little over a year later. again , sorry for the negativity, 1/5 stars

Im sorry but u would not reccomend this movie for several reasons.

For one, it has a very slow plot, and when you get to the fighting scenes, it is hard to understand what is going on due to the odd filming, and bad lighting.

Secondly, Their are way too many characters blatantly introduced, and then u are expected to know who they are by name.

and thirdly, i have read the biography this movie is based off of, and it is disgusting how inaccurate it is. im sorry johnny depp.

"Public Enemies" is yet another uninspired, digital/film romp; led by Michael Mann, a clueless film director lost without a compass.

The film was all over the place. The score was atrocious. And the writing was incredibly half-assed.

8 people walked out of the theatre. Who cares if the film is historically accurate, it's still not interesting.

I enjoyed this movie the first time, when it was called, "Dillinger."

I didn't care to see the movie but I'm surprised that I how much I enjoyed a historical film and that's because it has good character development for this American Robin Hood and the filming techniques gave it a sense of old school moving pictures while making it crisper and richer in quality and realism.

The filming, editing, set direction, costuming, were excellent. The acting was excellent. The screen play....hmmm. It went too quickly to the chase of Dillinger. There was little if any character development. The viewer could not truly relate, care or sympathize with and about the characters, with exception of Dillinger and Billie, and that was just barely. This film could have been SO much better. But it did move along well, and Johnny was perfection.
