Which really sucks cos Duffee is extremely hard working and very talented and until the KO i thought he was definately in line for a title shot.. duffe took his eye of the ball. bad mistake...dufee, like everyone else, thought he had this fight won. personally, i think there were three factors contributing to his guard being let down: (1) fatigue, (2) possibly broken or injured right hand, and (3) inexperience. at 24 years-old, i think duffee benefited from this lost and will come back even better and smarter. russow got blessed this time, but would certainly get defeated in a rematch. strong chin, but not in the same class as duffee.

That was a garbage fight, Todd Duffee clearly trains his ass off, and is clearly the better fighter. He was beating the piss out of michael for nearly 3 rounds, then Russow gets an extremely lucky shot to Duffee's jaw and knocks him out. Lets get real here Russow is a fat sloppy blob that doesn't look like hes trained a day in his life and quite frankly shouldn't have won that fight. I genuinely felt bad for Duffee because he 100% deserved the fight.

duffee is another testament to why boxing is the superior sport. Duffee looks cute throwing punches. But the punches had little affect and never really landed flush on the chin. He looked like a guy that hit the heavy bag a lot but never sparred. At the end, Russows punch did land on the sweet spot and exposed another hyped up MMA fighter.

IMO Duffee was trying to make another KO highlight reel instead of doing his wrestling that couldve gotten him the victory, I feel that if Duffee wouldve taken Russow down and then start to Strike Russow wouldnt have come out of the 1st round.

@CavemanJesus4Life I think it's due to Russow's incredible chin. I've seen 3 of Duffee's fights and none of them took half the beating Russow did to go down. This match was literally like the boxing episode from The Simpsons where the guy hit Homer so many times in the head and gassed out, then Homer just knocked him over.

Surviving the massive hits Duffee inflicted on Russow is more than a fluke.

It was obvious Duffee wanted to end this on round 1 because he gets tired very easily (zero fat and huge muscles do that). After he got tired he got slower and gave Russow a chance - and Russow took it with such a success, he couldn't even believe it.

To me it's a good display that there's more to this sport than muscles, speed and big hits. With a bit of technique, anything's possible.

I laughed my ass off i had 30p on the dude, i put the money down just because i thought he might get taken down and his muscles filled with acid but damn he has an iron chin. It reminded me of jesus vs satan on south park season 1 i was hoping duffee was going to grab the mic and say the same lines. I thought the guy was a can for duffee when i saw the belly and after a the takedowns failed and the total lack of standing offence loved the ending of the fight, great shit.

You know, In the begining of the fight I was thinking "dude this is the first really big heavyweight that is able to use his giant muscles with a good striking" (Well, Carwin can do some damage too, but we never seen if the fights go distance yet) And in this fight I was disapointed again with this super big muscle guys, the second round he was slower, and in the third he was dying in feet. Yea, yea, they say this super muscles guys can't get long because of the oxygen, I think they are right!

OK, i just watched it and i admit it was similar. But not as shoking. 1. When your nick is "Hands of steel" you can never be surprised to see KO.

2. Even though he was dominated, Scott Smitt landed few heavy punches and launched a lot of sharp attacks.

Russow is by no mean a heavy hitter and in the entire fight he didnt throw a single meaningfull punch. So thats why it was tottaly out of the blue.

Personally, I think the Lawler vs Manahoof had an even more shocking ending. Lawler was getting killed, he could hardly walk from all the leg kicks he absorbed. My hats off to Russow though, he showed an outstanding chin, great heart and was mentally strong. If anything, I think this fight showed that Duffee doesn't have the same type of chin Cain, Cabbage and Russow have got. He got tagged once and it was over! I'd like to see him in with another striker next. Maybe Buentello, Kongo or Crocop.

Probably you are talking about the fight against Pete Sell. Scott was seriously hit, but still was dangerous. The whole fight was 2 edged. So even though dramatic, it was not so surprising.

Here, the KO came out of nowhere. Thats the most surprising thing.

@CavemanJesus4Life Before the KO, Duffee took somewhere between 5-15 shots from Russow that were very similar to the last. Duffee was getting tired and let his arm down and got caught in the temple. What would happen if you got punched by Russow with 4oz gloves on in the temple? The endless mma Siskel + Eberts who sit on their ass bashing fighters are the worst. It's what ruins this sport.

@JGD1985 I box and I do Judo, and Im a Heavyweight and have been watching MMA since 1998, thats almost the birth of Pride fighting championships and have seen many of Russows fights from his M-1, AMMA fights and his only loss to Sergei Kharitonov, to his win over Roman Zentsov. Russow doesnt win by KO in his fights, he's mostly a submission type wrestler. His fight with Duffee was the first time he had Knocked someone out, even he was shocked by it.

I don't believe in lucky punches, but if there ever was one Russow's would have been it. I've also been watching mma on and off since the late 90s, first with renting the oldschool UFCs and then on to Pride, and I don't think I've seen such an unexpected result.

He couldnt even last the first round after hitting Russow so many times. This reminds me of the Randleman ko'ing Mirko in the first minute fight. Lucky punches don't explain fighters. It's the skill of the fighters that determines their success. Anyone can get a lucky chance just like anyone can win the lottery but the chance is little.

Big money? Duffee got $8000 for losing and I'm assuming his win bonus would have been the same (or similar) to Russow's $12,000. Would he get a cut of the PPV revenue? Doubt it. How much sponsorship money would he make?

The bottom line is that people don't move from the NFL to MMA for money. You come to MMA because you aren't good enough to make it in the big leagues. Sure the top guys make more, but the top guys in the NFL make a hell of alot more. I think you need to rethink your statement..
