@rockinrex Hell no! Oh god you just made me throw up a little in my mouth. I love Patti Smith's music, but goddam she's not physically attractive at all.
Karen was so polite. How many times does she say "thank you?" More than the average person, I bet. Also notice how she always invites the ladies to sit .
Karen and Richard were both so polite and respectful to everybody. They really were "two kids from Downey." Karen never lost her modesty and appreciation of others.
Wow, Agnes' favoritism (which has been documented extensively in the Coleman bio) is really apparent here. She gives Karen a perfunctory hug, all while looking at Richard. Then, when she hugs Richard she pulls him closer to her and a pats him on the back. Sad.

god she was so fucking beautiful here, i can't believe what happened to her, i can't believe she couldn't see the beauty of herself. It's so sad that it's such a common story for many women and men, I just wish it was as easy as going up to her and telling her how beautiful she is.
WOW!! Thank you so much for this video set. We are all indebted to each one of the guests, as well, because they all helped the Carpenters achieve the success. And did you notice how the Carpenters already started giving back, to their parents and teh community? The benefit for the college speaks volumes about their character. Thanks again!!
This is such a nice moment captured, you can see how much they loved each other, because they were raised by traditional, decent parents.College?Their parents raised them and instilled values(Classic American) in them way b4 they ever thought about going to college.College just finished and gave more of a shine to the work of their father and mother.Dont make an idol of education, 1st the heart, then the mind. The Unabomber,Castro and Pol Pot were soooo very educated, yet just turds in the end.
Thanks for posting this - I really enjoyed watching it. How did you get such good picture quality- usually these sort of tapes look terrible, but this one looks great!
A very touching and moving recap of the earlier years in the Carpenters' lives, my eyes started to mist at the ending, Karen's sweet voice and music will be missed but never forgotten.
I think that's the youngest I've ever seen Richard and Karen's parents on video. Always get a kick out of hearing Harold speak, it's so slow and has some sort of drawl(sp?) to it. In later years Agnes has died blonde hair and isn't so skinny as she is here.

"Merry Christmas Darling" has always been my favorite christmas song. I didn't know that Richard Carpenter wrote the music himself until now.

@dmckayut Richard is a masterful composer!

On my CD it says the composer is Frank Pooler for this song. Perhaps Richard arranged it? He is absolutely a musical genius.
