Meh. Beyond Mats Sundin, McCabe is probably the Leafs' most valuable player. Their record without him in the line-up can attest to that. Fact of the matter is, occasional blunders aside, McCabe is a pretty darn good defenseman.

I HATE McCabe with a passion. The man is a joke from his comments stating that before the lockout that players deserve to make a comfortable living (he was making over 4 mil at that time) to his multiple mistakes on the ice to blaming the refs for the Leafs losses. Add that to the fact he blames this season on injuries when they are few and far between and you have a certifiable asshole. The man believes his own hype and thinks he's king of the Leafs.

If you're deluded enough to think that's the reason the Leafs are awful and haven't made the playoffs in the last three years then you deserve the shitty teams they keep icing as a result of managerial incompetence and the extent to which they have screwed themselves long term in the last few years by trading high first round picks for shitty players (except this year's draft where they took Schenn at #5). Meh. Beyond Mats Sundin, McCabe is probably the Leafs' most valuable player. Their record without him in the line-up can attest to that. Fact of the matter is, occasional blunders aside, McCabe is a pretty darn good defenseman.

I've said for a few years that as long as McCabe is an "A" Captain the Leafs will never be successful. If that's the best they can do for leadership then they'll never be a winner.
When watching Leaf low-lights on TSN, look how many times McCabe is picking his ass in the corner while the Leafs are scored on.
He's an immature punk who'd be working the graveyard shift at the mill if it wasn't for a few scouts who smoked too much crack.

I guess McCabe is the only dman in the entire NHL that has made mistakes. I can make clips of all defensemen screwups. 1- Curtis Joseph was in none of those Videos.
2- Not being able to distinguish Cujo and Eddy's masks. (They've been the same since they started playing just dif colors.)

All the years that Quinn coached, who was ALWAYS on the ice in the final minute of a game the Leafs were winning? McCabe. Who played the most minutes during all of those triple and quadruple OT games in the playoffs going back to 2003, 2002, etc... McCabe. And he was wayyy underpaid for the work he was doing. So he got a raise. At least we're paying a guy for the work he has done in the past, FOR OUR TEAM (the Leafs), instead of paying Jason Blake a hefty raise for his past performance with NYI.

the problem with guys like McCabe, Gonchar, Ozolinch, Redden, and Souray is they'll score like 20 goals and demand money because of it. but then the team wants their moneys worth, and plays them more than just on the powerplay, and every defenceman I named is TERRIBLE defencively.

McCabe should not have even put his goaltenders in those positions, but he did, and does it on a regular basis. He wouldn't get crucified like does if it is the regular mistake that all D-men make, but I have never seen someone so careless in his own zone.

Okay, i just looked it up... 38 million total contract for Timonen which works out to 6.3mill a year, look around the league.... McCabe aint that bad lol Blake is alot worse bargain at 4 mill a yr than McCabe at 5.75

yeah, his mistakes are usually really ugly and I've seen him give up to many goals that are directly his fault. But why don't you throw in some powerplay footage if McCabe whipping onetimers past goalies like he did all last season? 6 mil is probly too much, but he is a great Ass't Captain and is still a good defensemen for any team.
